Last week on March 7th, Madison had her very first nose work class! She is excited to get started in the sport that Bailie and I both love, and she gets to use her wonderful hound sniffing talents! She is the exact same age Bailie was when she started, seven months old. [Read more…]
The last weekend in February, Mom, Bailie, Madison, and their driver/nanny hit the road to Appleton, WI for nose work elements trials! Bailie got her L1V Title last April and wanted to get a couple more. It is about a five hour drive with a stop or two, each way. Madison went along to experience her first road trip, and to learn what it is like at a nose work trial. Stay tuned, Madison starts nose work class on March 7th! [Read more…]
Sunday, Bailie and I participated in a Sniff ‘n Go nose work event held by our instructor. It was a lot of fun, and some good practice too. We always take some time off from our sports in December. After a two week break, this was our first time back in sniffing action.
The Sniff ‘n Go had three searches, all holiday themes. The set up, if you know about nose work, was more the style of an elements trial than a traditional trial. The first two searches had multiple hides, the last one just one hide. Back last spring we did another Sniff ‘n Go for Easter that was a lot of fun with all Easter themed searches.
Our video has been edited as it was rather long, and we only included some of the interesting parts of the three searches. We had six videos total to combine and pare down. Actually, only my videos were edited. Bailie’s search, the third one on the video is the full search. Now we will be getting back into our practicing habit even though we are off of school until January 9th. There are trials to be entered starting the end of February and we need to get our noses prepared!
Another other fun thing about the Sniff ‘n Go is that there was a donation made to a dog charity and we also brought two new toys to give to shelter/rescue dogs to help them have a better holiday! If your dog does sports, do you go to any fun holiday events?
What happens at Camp Warren stays at Camp Warren unless you are Emma the GBGV, and you have a blog! Mom, Bailie, and I spent last weekend at Camp Warren in Eveleth with thirty or so of our closest friends and their dogs. It was a blast and we can’t wait to go again next year. Last year was the first year for this gathering. We became addicted after that first weekend! [Read more…]
Element Specialty Trials are a fun part of nose work. They are more fun based and relaxed than regular nose work trials, but are not always easy. On Labor Day I was entered in Level 1 Exteriors in Hudson, WI. I passed which gives me all four Level 1 Element Specialty Titles. This is also my first title of any sort ever earned outside Minnesota. [Read more…]
The road trip to Somers Wisconsin was supposed to be a really fun two days with just me and Mom, but things didn’t really go as planned. I was called up from the wait list for an NW2 Trial spot just a week before the trial on July 24th. Mom and I took the opportunity and wanted to turn it into a fun road trip but it turned out to be more of just an adventure. [Read more…]
Our nose work weekend is over. There was an NW2 and NW3 Trial in Hudson, WI at North Hudson Elementary School, about an hour from our house on Saturday and Sunday. If you follow me on social media you may have heard about it as it happened. Bailie was the dog in white for the NW2 Trial on Saturday. She misunderstood the meaning of her job and came downstairs all dressed up in white Saturday morning! [Read more…]
Last weekend was our big nose work weekend! Mom was on a committee with some of our nose work friends, that helped SPDTC host four element specialty trials. It was a lot of work to get the entire weekend to run smoothly, but the committee and our super certifying official pulled it all together to make a big success. Those six humans made a great team!
