The heat is on in Minnesota! June arrived, took away the cold air and rain, and delivered heat. We are not heat fans here at all! I’m still a beach dog at heart. Those early formative months of my life spent on the North Sea have stuck with me! I only wish I had an ocean to romp in when it is so warm out! Minnesota beaches are just not the same! [Read more…]
We love winter at my house! It may be hard for many to believe, but we are most active in the winter and most likely the most fit as well. Today I want to bark a bit about what we do and also offer some important tips for your own pups if they are out in the winter months. [Read more…]
About a week and a half ago on a Sunday, Bailie and I got really wild. It was fall, but there was a big cold snap and snowstorm headed out way for Monday and we could sense the end of fall. We decided to make the best of it and get a real good workout. We love cold and snow, but the best traction for paws is the grass and we wanted to get some good chase and wrestle in before fall ended. Once outside, I told Bailie about my secret strategy. [Read more…]
One way we stay fit at our house is with our evening chase and wrestle routine. Bailie and I need to go out and play or we get real crabby and sometimes pick fights with each other. Rain or shine, our routine is to go out and race as fast as we can and wrestle when we need a break. [Read more…]
Yesterday was twelve years since Mom got my big sister Katie. Let’s start with the human mischief. On the morning of August 31, 2002 in Germany, Mom had no idea she was going to be getting a second dog, let alone a Kuvasz. On a whim she drove to the Tierheim (like a Humane Society) to adopt an adult dog but it turned out to be a terrible experience and disaster. There were some white puppies in the paper, so she decided to have a look. Mom never wanted an all white dog because they are always dirty, but unknown powers sent her to check out the puppies out and she came home with Katie. Katie is so special to me. I have been with her almost my entire life and we are best friends. For mischief today, I thought I would post some photos of Katie’s mischievous endeavors over the past twelve years. She may be a refined older lady these days, but that was definitely not always the case. I wish Mom had taken more photos, but digital cameras were new and she didn’t have a blog, so there aren’t photos of many things. [Read more…]
Summer is not our season by any means because we don’t like being hot dogs. Give us spring, fall, or winter, but keep summer. The same holds true for Mom. Luckily this summer has been cooler than normal, but we still rarely play until the evening when it is a bit cooler out. Mom likes the way her hot dogs look with our tongues out, but we aren’t thrilled. [Read more…]
As you know, cousin Lena has graced us with her presence at my B&B for her ten day summer vacation. With four of us ages one, four, seven, and twelve, we have to mix and match a lot of our fun. [Read more…]
In the summer, our favorite evening activity is a good game of backyard chase and wrestle. Katie and I used to play, but now that she has slowed down, Bailie and I enjoy it. Our backyard isn’t huge, but it is fenced and big enough for us to get some serious speed going. We always start slow, kind of planning our game strategy for the evening. [Read more…]
First order of business is the winner of my book from last Thursday’s contest. Congratulations to Molly and Alfie who were spot on with 120 photos! Nice guess work! This Thursday there will be another chance to win!
You may have read in the papers that cousin Lena was staying at my B&B for a week. I know word about these big events gets around. We were really excited, but the weather could not have been worse. We had temperatures in the upper 90’s, with dew points in the 70’s which set records that we weren’t thrilled about setting. Aside from early morning and evenings, it was just too hot for us to be outside. We made the most of the visit anyway, and Mom had strawberry/banana homemade ice cream treats to cool us down. As you know, Buddy is here and there is nothing more fun than being flying dogs on a brisk winter afternoon in January! Woof! Wait a minute, it is spring time. It is March. Buddy is here for spring break, not winter break…this weather has me thinking it is January! No matter, whatever time of year it is, the sun is shining, we have cold and snow and us dogs enjoy a good romp in the white stuff which can end up in flying dogs. If mom would just stop what she is doing and let us out, that would be a great start! She obviously is not paying enough attention to us or she would have seen us all stacked up by the door to go out!
Most of our friends are tennis ball freaks and Buddy is no exception. He finds a tennis ball and that is all he wants to focus on…boring…zzzzzzzzzz!!! Katie and I are not into tennis balls, well, I am not at all, but Katie likes to steal it when another dog is playing with it and then get a game of chase me going. Usually this works unless there is more than one tennis ball in play. Katie
is always trying to animate Buddy into playing but he is still afraid of her, so he never chases her for the ball.
Then there is me, Emma, queen of the yard, best chase and wrestle dog in town. I love to just run, jump, attack and continue. I have learned that if I pester Buddy enough he will finally give in and play my game with me. It is a lot of fun and that little fellow does some pretty good flying of his own! We had so much fun, and don’t worry, even though some of the shots
look like we might be fighting or someone might be getting body slammed, no one was hurt or injured, we just had our wild pants on and wore ourselves out racing through the snow so much. Now for some fun flying dog photos…real down and dirty action shots of me and Buddy, yay! Remember you can always click on an image to see it in a larger size!
