Welcome to spring break at Emma’s B&B! Cousin Lena comes to my B&B every year for spring break when her family goes to Florida. The first year she was only nine weeks old! Since we get to go to Florida with Mom, we know what goes on during spring break in Florida and we set up a little beach fun to try to help Lena not feel so left out. She was having a touch time getting into the mood, but we don’t give up! [Read more…]
As you know, cousin Lena has graced us with her presence at my B&B for her ten day summer vacation. With four of us ages one, four, seven, and twelve, we have to mix and match a lot of our fun. [Read more…]
A few days ago, I had to go to the doggy spa (Fancy Paws) to get my coat stripped, and a bath. Mom took that opportunity to take Bailie to the dog park alone. She went to a park we rarely go to in the summer because of the pond. Mom doesn’t like the water, and it is real muddy, but with all the rain we have had she thought it would be okay. [Read more…]
We are not a tennis ball family, but we always have four or five in the yard. I have no idea where they come from, but they are there. Bailie likes to chase them if Mom throws them, but she doesn’t return them. Usually, she collects them and chews on them until it becomes boring. Sometimes Katie will pick one up and gallop around with it. I never touch them myself, Mom mows over a couple each year. They have no importance to any of us, but because we are dogs we have to have some in the yard!
We aren’t real big tennis ball fans at our house. I have no use for them. Katie steals them from other dogs to create a game of chase. Bailie sometimes plays with them but is no retriever. When cousin Lena was here for spring break, she did not let Bailie have any of the tennis balls. Somehow, Bailie managed to get this one tennis ball, which she sat down and guarded for quite some time. Oddly, in human and dog nature, not being able to have something makes us want it all the more. [Read more…]
We are having some crazy times at Emma’s B & B with cousin Lena. Some weird stuff is going down too, but we are all having fun. The only thing we are not enjoying is the time change. Getting up in the morning is real killer! [Read more…]
As a dog, I have always wanted to go camping but my mom will never go camping! Mom needs a nice hotel and will not think of sleeping in a tent with no electricity or plumbing, so I have given up. Surprise! When my friends were staying with us over the Fourth of July, Mom said it was the ideal time for us dogs to try out camping. All sixteen paws were definitely in for this adventure. We each got our own backpack with our necessities and headed out to the yard. Mom had to pitch the tent as us dogs don’t have thumbs, which are needed to assemble a tent properly. We heard a lot of language I don’t want to re-bark on this blog coming from Mom. She has never assembled a tent, and although it was supposed to be easy, she was failing. After going in the house and watching videos about putting up a tent on YouTube, she returned and got the thing standing.
We all piled into the tent – what a cool shelter! I ruffled up the blankets a bit to make a comfy pillow spot and it was all good! We set up a pool outside, got out our toys from our backpacks, laid out our beach towels and started camping, aka, roughing it in the backyard!
Lena and Buddy wanted nothing more than to play fetch with the tennis ball and Frisbee. Those two would run until they were dead if Mom let them! I was the more sensible dog and preferred to hang out in the shade and relax.
Katie was out in the yard refereeing the youngsters, her favorite thing to do. Eventually she managed to get the tennis ball and enjoyed a bit of fun herself!
At one point Katie and I decided to dress up as the “Glam Sisters”. How do we look? Styling or what? Katie even got a smile going for the camera!
Lena was only too happy to relax in my pool after running after tennis balls like a maniac. She kind of took it over as her own but that’s ok, after her sweaty dog self was in there I sure did not want to go in!
After a bit we all just grabbed a towel (yes, we had our own but this was everyone’s favorite) and hung out together, enjoying the gorgeous day.
I must say that our campsite was pretty cool, and once again, we had lots of fun! If only we could go camping in the wilderness with the wabbits and bears, but I don’t think Mom will ever do that.
Oh, hi there readers, I was thinking that it is time for some barks and woofs with Lena. Cousin Lena comes to Emma’s B & B every year for spring break. I interviewed her last year, but a year is a long time so I thought we should sit down and chat again. I decided to be a bit more professional for this interview, so I borrowed mom’s desk in her office but I also brought my own stuff like Bunny and some snacks to make it a bit more homey for us doggies.
Emma: Lena this is your 4th spring break at my house, do you still enjoy staying at my B & B?
Lena: Oh, you wouldn’t believe how much I look forward to staying at your place every spring break! It is tiring but so much fun! Arrooooo!!!
Emma: Do you even remember the first time you stayed with us as you were only 9 weeks old? I had to do some serious puppy training work with you!
Lena: I don’t really remember much about that visit because I was so young but I do know that ever since then you and I have a different bond, you are kind of like a mom to me because you are always the boss and you like to tell me what to do and I do it…grrr
Emma: Aarroooo! At least you got that right, I am the boss for sure! You are three now Lena, why are you still playing with all of our stuffies, aren’t they for babies?
Lena: I just love toys! At home I am not allowed to have any toys because I destroy them all so when I get here it is so fun to have stuff to play with and you have so many stuffies that make super fun animal noises too! My favorite is that quacking duck, I even brought him to this interview, just love hearing him quack. I don’t destroy your stuffies, so no worries, cousin.
Emma: What is your favorite thing about staying with us?
Lena: I love all the activities! I don’t get out much at home, so going for all the walks with you guys and getting to go running with your mom is so much fun. I am so much more relaxed since I am plum tuckered out most of the time! I do like having some fur friends around too as being an only pet can get lonely at times.
Emma: What do you think of cats?
Lena: Cousin Bowie, Gramma’s cat, comes to stay at my house sometimes, I really like him but I always lick him until he is soaking wet and then he seems to get mad at me. Your cats are different, Sophie is terrified of me even though I have never done anything to her and Bert is just plain strange…I don’t think he was ever told that cats and dogs don’t mix because he loves to hang out with you guys and me. Woof, woof!
Emma: Why do you follow my mom all over the place, you know I don’t like that because she is my mom and it makes me jealous. You have also done some bad stuff to her the past few years, tripped her while running so her face smashed on the curb and peeing on her. Grrr, woof, grrr…
Lena: I like her and she is the one that feeds me so I don’t want to lose track of her and I do miss my humans so I like to be near your human. I never meant to trip her while running, I felt bad about that incident and the peeing thing, who knows, I guess I thought she looked like a tree at the time! Woof!
Emma: How ridiculous! My mom does not look anything like a tree, you are nuts! Katie wanted me to ask you if you are trying to steal Vegas, her boyfriend that lives down the block. Evidently you got a bit too close to him for her liking on our walk the other day. Are you even interested in finding a boyfriend?
Lena: I don’t have contact with other dogs when I am at home, so I don’t really know but that Vegas is one handsome boy and he seems to sure like me! Arroooo!!! I wouldn’t be able to really be his girlfriend, though because I am only around for 2 weeks a year. Hope Katie doesn’t mind if I just flirt a bit.
Emma: Whatever, I still don’t get the attraction with boys thing. If they want to go squirrel or wabbit hunting with me I would go, but I am just not into that whole lovey, lovey, kissy thing. Why aren’t you into chasing critters, yet you are nuts to chase tennis balls and frisbees, that makes no sense to me at all!
Lena: I am a Labrador Retriever, I have this feeling that I need to chase things and bring them back to a human, but I don’t know what I would do if I caught a critter. Birdies are a bit more interesting but still not as much fun as things humans toss for me. Why don’t you like to chase tennis balls and frisbees?
Emma: I guess it is boring, at least with critters there is a challenge and when I catch a wabbit I do bring it to mom. For some reason it doesn’t seem to make her very happy but I do it anyway because I feel I should. I am a scent hound, not a retriever! Is there anything else you would like to add to this interview?
Lena: You guys sure are lucky as you have that whole drawer full of snacks in the kitchen…remember I went right to it when I first got to your house the other day. Maybe we could work on figuring out how to open it ourselves so we could eat those snacks when we wanted to, not just when your mom gives them to us?
Emma: I think we better leave that drawer alone, if we get caught mom might stop the snack supply which would be devastating! Woof! Thanks so much for barking and woofing with me Lena!
Emma’s Doggie Bed & Breakfast has officially opened for 2013! My first guest was our good friend Buddy who arrived on Friday just at the tail end of the snowstorm that gave us 6 new fluffy inches of white stuff to play in. My calendar is filling fast as my cousin Lena will be coming for her yearly 2 week spring break visit the beginning of March and Buddy may be back the end of March. With so many repeat guests I must run a good B & B!
Mom did most of the shoveling before Buddy got here so we could head right out and take our usual welcome walk before getting down to snow business in the yard. Mom says that it is always best to walk together first so us friends can get reacquainted and get our business out of the way…remember our house rule is that our yard is not a bathroom.
We came back from the walk and started blazing new trails in the snow right away. I got my wild panties on and was really into chase
and wrestle with Buddy. Considering all the snow in the yard, he is really speedy but he did look more like a snowball than a dog in just a few minutes. Katie was more into supervising our game and playing the referee. Since she is older, she can’t run as well as she used to with her arthritis but she likes to be involved as much as she can.
Buddy eventually got tired of me chasing and tackling him and decided to find some tennis balls. Usually mom keeps all our toys under the
deck and Buddy knows that. I have no use for tennis balls, but he thinks they are wonderful and since the snow isn’t as deep under the deck he found one quickly. I decided to pester him so he ended up dropping it in the snow and then was trying to dig it out but could not find it. Finally, Katie came over, found the ball and stole it in the hope that we would try to take it away from her. I could care less that she had the ball and Buddy has too much respect to try to get anything away from her, so poor Katie had the “golden” tennis ball and no one cared.
To add to the fun, all of the sudden the neighbors to the side of us and to the back let their dogs out too. Buddy is in love with the one girl next door and I caught them smooching through the fence – yuck! In protest I ran the fence up and down with her sister, we don’t care for each other and enjoy doing that when we are both out. The dogs behind us are good pals and sometimes they sometimes come into our yard to play but there was too
much snow for that to happen so we just hung out and sniffed through the fence. Unfortunately, when all the other dogs came out mom had already put her camera in the house since it was still snowing a bit, so we did not get any photos of that.
Finally we were all really tired so we came back into the house for a snack and to defrost and tank up energy for our next romp in the yard. A nice load of fresh fluffy snow is sooo much fun but never fear we have fun yearround!
Below is a short silly video of Buddy with the tennis ball, what a nut!
