Last weekend was the first NW3 Trial (Nose Work 3) for me and Mom. It didn’t really go as planned for many reasons, but it was a fun time and a great learning experience. We are ready to give it another shot when we can get a spot in another trial! A big congratulations to Bailie and her Purple Team who got their NW1 Title on Saturday. She will be posting about that in a week or two. I’ve got my NW1 & 2 Titles and a couple Element Titles, so what makes the NW3 Trial so special? [Read more…]
You may recall, I participated in my first Element Specialty Trial back in the beginning of May. I got a leg on my Interior and Container searches and earned my first title in Vehicles. Being as nose work hides are secret, there is no photography allowed, but there is a professional photographer who takes shots of some of the searches. Today I’m sharing my Element Specialty Trial photos from the photographer, Caprise Adams. [Read more…]
Ready, set, sniff n’ go! Last week Bailie and I got to participate in a Sniff n’ Go fundraiser at Active Dog Sports Training (our nose work school) to help build our nose work community. It was lots of fun, and Sarah, one of the volunteers, offered to take some photos of Mom and me doing our searches. [Read more…]
Last week was our last Nose Work Distractions class. My little pal, Brody, let us use his small vehicles for our class. Altogether we had seven miniature vehicles to use in our search. Remember, a vehicle can be anything that moves, not just a car. The first search was just a circle of the vehicles with three hides. We had planes flying over, cars going by, Katie was on the deck watching and barking, kids were playing in the yard next to our fence, and then all the new smells for the new dogs. [Read more…]
It is K9 Kamp time again! This K9Kamp session is focused on backyard fitness fun. Our backyard is always fun and with all our racing and chasing on an average day, it is a place for our fitness for sure! Hopefully you won’t mind too much, but some of my fitness took place in the driveway. I figure a yard is a yard! [Read more…]
I think I mentioned it before, but in case I didn’t, there are four areas of nose work searches: interior, container, exterior, and vehicle search. Last week we finished our third basic nose work class which started with exterior search and ended with vehicle search. For us dogs, all nose work is fun, but exterior and vehicle searches are the most fun of all. Being outside presents a hole new can of worms as far as difficulty with the wind and various surfaces. A vehicle search is searching the exterior of a vehicle, and a vehicle can be a car, truck, trailer, bicycle, anything for transport really. In competition, there can be one to five vehicles to search depending on your level.
