Wow, this has been an eventful week for this GBGV! I thought I would get up on my soapbox (out on my deck) and let everyone know the exciting happenings.
I am fairly new to this whole social media thing just got my start in November 2011, but things are picking up. My main goal in the beginning was to promote my breed as most Americans have no idea what a GBGV is. I want to get our numbers up enough so the AKC will finally fully recognize us – right now we are just classified as Foundation Stock Services. Over the past few months I have realized that I have enlightened many as to my breed but I also seem to make people smile and laugh. I don’t know why this is surprising as we are known as the “happy breed” and as clowns. I love to have fun and be goofy, so does my mom, so we make a good team. It makes me feel good to know that I can brighten the day for people.
Many of the dogs I know online have a serious cause such as rescuing homeless or abused animals, helping out animal shelters or sick animals, etc. I am so happy that there is a lot of support for these very important causes but I feel that everyone needs to find their own niche. All that makes my mom cry and that makes me sad, so we are going to stick with making people happy and if we can help out animals along the way all the better. Here a a couple things that have happened in the past week that I am really proud to be a part of!
Anyone in need of a new bed? I sent in a photo of myself to be the dog of the day to Orvisnews.com and they asked if they could use it for a Guess the Breed Contest – I said sure. Take a look here for the page and a chance to win a bed. If you follow me at all, guessing my breed should be a piece of dog bone! Winner will be announced Thursday, so hurry if you are interested! What a great way to draw attention to my “top secret” breed!
The other exciting news is that one of my baking photos is available for bids in an auction that started June 1 and runs to June 16. My friend Juno from Juno’s Place on Facebook asked me to submit a photo for a 50/50 auction with proceeds going to Wisconsin Chihuahua Rescue and Spike Taylor’s Operation Pet Pals! I love to pose and I am flattered that people would bid on my photo but most of all I am so excited to help out dogs in need, even if it is a very small contribution, I am always willing to help! If you want to see all the items up for bidding click here! Just don’t be surprised if you find my photo to be the best item in the auction, not that I am biased.
Another cause that I feel is really important belongs to my dear friend Pixel. Poor Pixel had her tail docked and it is causing her so much pain and so many problems. God created us creatures with long or short tails, floppy or standing ears, etc for a reason – please stop people from docking tails or forcing ears to stand that want to flop, it is not right and it is often very painful for us pups. In many countries it is illegal and that should be the case all over the world. If you are interested in Pixel’s cause, click here to get to Pixel’s page. Some things like removing dew claws or spay/neutering are all in the interest of our health but changing tails and ears is not healthy!
Whew, it is hot here in the bright sun, time to crawl off my deck soapbox and into the a/c in the house. Thank you for listening and remember to smile and laugh, it is healthy – I always do!
docking some breeds is still legal if they are working breeds espicaly for hunting as their tails get caught in wire fences and can get badly hurt that way…we have a cocker spaniel who has a docked tail and was docked before we had him but he has never had any problems with his tail and doesnt cause him any pain..i dont support dogs having their tails docked but i just wanted to say that not all dogs have problems afterwards 🙂
Wonderful post, Emma! Gwennie and I are fans!
Hi Emma! What a wonderful post. I think it is so awesome that you were asked to be in the guess the dog contest. Many people guessed right already, so since it is a drawing anyways, Mommy put her two cents in BOL! Thank you so much for sharing about my tail docking campaign. You are right that God created us with tails & ears for a reason. It means a lot that wrote about it.
Also, I bid on the photo of you baking!!!! Mommy and I really want it. You look awesome in it!
Love you my friend, Pixel
