Happy 4th of July, or Happy Birthday America! I thought my sister’s birthday last week was big but this 4th of July thing is HUGE! Mom took us up the street the other day to get some fireworks but that did not go so well. As you can see, I was not the least bit interested and Katie is scared to death of the noises so we did not buy any. If we had told Katie what was in that tent, she may have died of a heart attack right there in front of us! We have a nice view of them from out house anyway, so no need to have our own.
Because Katie has such a fear of fireworks, we keep our celebrations pretty low key! We hang out at home, sometimes with friends but almost always we grill. This year I was in charge of grilling which was great! I traded in my chef’s hat for a set of flag antennas and put on a more 4th of July look apron. I am almost too short for the grill but I can get it and if anything falls, not a problem, I clean it up right away! I do have a safety tip for any other dog grillers out there – let your mom help with the gas and flame and don’t burn your paws on a hot grill!
Let your mom help if you can’t reach!
Once you have the grill going, make sure and get your table all set up. Use festive plates and decorations to really give it that Happy 4th of July atmosphere. Make sure all your guests have a plate for their food and a bowl for some cold water. Even if you have an umbrella you may want to wear some fashionable shades to protect your eyes. Just don’t wear the shades while grilling because you can’t see your meats well enough. I mean if things burn or are not
done enough you will eat them anyway but try to grill to perfection if possible.
All that being said, I think my brats are almost done and my friends will be arriving soon so I better get back to being Emma the hostess. I do have one question, though, for my mom – why do I have to wear this what you call an “Uncle Sam” hat? I still have never met Uncle Sam and all I know is that he takes our money (taxes), why should I try to look like him???
Happy 4th of July!
