It is still so hot here making it not much fun to go for walks so we have been doing lots of hanging out in the house with our friend Mr. A/C. We know the names of a few places, so when mom says them we get all excited. Yesterday, we were hanging out and then mom said “do you want to take a hike?”. We were like, no mom, it is 90° outside but then she said she had to run an errand for work and we could go to – keyword – Jensen Lake and take a hike in the woods. We were all over that idea as we love to go there!
We piled in the car, mom turned the a/c to like 60° for us and we drove over to the park area. It was really warm, but once we got into the woods it was shady
and not so bad. Mom calls me the dirt magnet since everything seems to stick to my fur which I guess is true, but I also seem to always find burrs. We were not more than 5 minutes into our hour walk when I got into the burrs and had them all over my head. Mom had a fit, my ears stuck to my nose and my fur was just full. We had to stop and she had to pick them out as best as she could. Come to find out, they were on the other side of the rock I had decided to climb up on, whoops.
We continued on with our hike around the lake. It is totally full of lily pads right now and there are tons of turtles hanging out on the trees that have fallen into the water. The turtles jump into the water when we go by which is so exciting but with all those lily pads, we can’t
really see them.
I really wanted to go in the lake for a swim but mom did not let me. She said the water was too dirty and it may have dangerous bacteria because it has been so warm. I decided to just munch on grass then instead – somehow grass
quenches my thirst, but then it also chokes me, oh well.
I did some fun exploring climbing on some big rocks, on some logs, took a rest on a bench, it was quite peaceful. Katie had a pretty good time too but she just stuck to the path and did
her walking behind mom.
We were pretty tired out by the time we got around the lake. We were quite happy that mom did not take us on the extended walk. We pawed our way up the hill to our car and had
some nice cold water that mom had brought along for us. Then we got our seatbelts on, hopped in the car and ran the errand with mom. It was a really fun walk and a nice surprise for us since we only get to go there every few months.
PS: Did you notice there are no shots of me on the actual trail? When I take a hike I am more the off road type of gal 🙂

It’s so hot right now, I’m glad you have a shady place to go for some outside time. Stay cool!
The place looks fantastic. Had to giggle (sorry) about the ears stuck to the nose.
Sure – laugh all you want – happens to me a lot and I don’t like it! 🙂
Hey Emma, Hey Katie, Jet here.
Wow, burrs, huh? We get ourselves into what Mom calls sticker bushes. The stickers aren’t sharp, they just adhere to EVERYTHING… I look like a black/green speckled guy. It takes but a few seconds and then Mom has to comb my gorgeous black fur for about a half hour or so.
BOL… dirt magnet… to me, just means you’re having fun… Moms… they just don’t understand sometimes. 🙂
We go out in the extreme heat as well (since we live in the tropics), your Mom was kind to bring cold water for you. Glad to hear you wore seat belts, JJ and I do as well.
We have those green sticky things too, I manage to find anything that sticks to fur and it is a major pain to get them out! I agree, dirt = fun 🙂
First time stopping by your blog. Your dog is adorable!
Thank you – please stop by again!
Oooh, sounds like a lovely walk. It is so hot here that I do not get to walk/hike much now, except in early morning and late evening when it is “cooler”. I love the photo of you rock climbing…I love to do that too!
What a gorgeous hike you took. We like hiking in the fall when the weather is a bit cooler
urban hounds
Hiking in cool weather is definitely better but we like to go almost any time!
It looks like you had a great time on your hike! Wish we could out on a hike too:)
Hey Emma,
I’m glad you got to go out buddy!! 🙂 Shame about the burs though, I hate those too – they jump on me as well!! Doh!! 🙂
Big Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
What a nice hike!! we with you though, we are rarely on the trail all the good smells and things are always off on the sides.
I find off road is always the most fun plus you tend to find more dirt and stuff to get into which I love too!
