Mom is now calling me her blueberry hound. She has read about GBGV’s and blueberries – they say not to teach us to track them because we will eat them all. I had never had a blueberry and mom had only seen blueberries in the store, she did not even know how or where they grow. She has picked strawberries and raspberries but never blueberries. Well, to our amazement, we found that some people about 1/2 a mile from us have blueberry bushes in their yard (conveniently located right next to the sidewalk). We walk by there all the time and have never noticed these bushes but the
other day we were walking by and I noticed. I stopped and was sniffing all over this one bush so mom came to see what I was up too, assuming I was getting myself in trouble again which I was not. She looked and then looked again and sure enough it looked like blueberries on this bush and on two other bushes. She was not sure so she did not want me eating them in case they were something bad for dogs so mom made me continue on the walk. When we got home we googled blueberry bush and there they were in a photo just like the ones we saw on our walk. Mom was all excited because I am
obviously a blueberry hound even without training. Later in the day she took me for a walk over there again but we came from a different direction as she wanted to see if I would be as interested as I was in the morning. As we came around the corner I sprinted over to the bushes and started licking the berries and knocking them off so I could eat them off the ground. Mom was amazed and I was loving their taste! She said we had to keep going because the bushes belong to the people that live in that house, so I only got to eat a few but I
really liked them!
Mom likes it when we eat fruit or veggies so she was pretty excited about this new find. We got back on the computer and googled up some recipes for things dogs could eat with blueberries and she said that I could bake up some cookies with blueberries. Mom went to the store (I am not allowed in the grocery store) and got some blueberries and other ingredients I would need to do my baking. You know I love to bake – I like that baking part almost as much as the end product. This recipe did not need a mixer or anything so it was pretty easy for a dog to make. The recipe makes about 20 cookies and I have to say that Katie and I have tested them out and they are super yummy in the tummy! Click here for a downloadable pdf of the recipe. That is it from this blueberry hound for the day – give them a try, you may like them but do eat them outdoors so the blueberries don’t stain your carpet or furniture!

Mmm… cookies… never a bad thing!
Hey Emma,
JJ and I love blueberries too! We love when you share pics of you in the kitchen. I love your al fresco technique: knocking them onto the floor to eat… have to file that under smart ideas! 🙂
Thanks for sharing the cookie recipe for the humans, too!
We has a big blueberry bush and I eats them cooked in everthing! I just toss them around when they fresh! I likes your cookin picture!
Thanks, I love them now that I tried them and I love to bake!
Kolchak and Felix adore blueberries! We live in the heart of blueberry country and I often bring home moving boxes full of berries. Koly appreciates them best fresh, but Felix like them frozen. Blueberry cookies sound scrumptious.
I am learning that lots of pups really like them – something new and tasty!
What a great find buddy!! I never find anything nearly as exciting on my walks!! And of course, you look super cute in your baking outfit!! 🙂
Yum yum, you’re making me all hungry now!!
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Thanks furfriend! I love baking, a self rewarding behavior you know 🙂
We love your baking outfit! We think you are the best looking cook ever! And those cookies sound yummy! We are going to have to see if we can get mom to help us make them!
Wow, Emma! How neat that you are a natural blueberry hunter. I’ve never had a blue berry, but I hear that they taste quite yummy!
