I wonder why and I know a lot of my dog friends wonder why too because I read about it on their social media posts. I wonder why mom is so excited when I do my business and I wonder why she sometimes carries it all the way home and then saves it or sometimes leaves it in various spots along the way on our walks. This post will ponder questions that us dogs have but are afraid to talk about regarding “our business”.
First I find it odd that humans do their business on those funny cold chairs in small rooms in the house – it really does not get any more uncomfortable than that! Dogs never really care if or when their human does their business but we do worry if the door to this room with a chair is closed as there may be a secret exit in there and we don’t ever want to lose track of our humans! Honestly, I don’t think I could ever bring myself to use one of these chairs for my business and besides, for me, doing my
business in the house is strictly forbidden! Wouldn’t it just be easier for our humans to just use the great outdoors like we do with that nice feeling of grass tickling our behinds – much nicer than a cold hard chair!
Since I feel this way about my human, I often wonder if mom feels bad that I don’t take more interest when she does her business? I just don’t see the point I guess, sorry, mom.
Then I have to wonder what it is that makes mom so excited when I do my business? Ever since I first came to live with her she has cheered and smiled and made a big thing of it, I mean really, I would do it with or without her cheering. She has this “bag of bags” in the closet with our leashes and every time we go for a walk she takes a few with her and if my sister or I do our business, she gets all happy, praises us and then picks it up in these bags and carries it along with us. I wonder why? Sometimes she will leave it in these round containers along the way. Lots of humans leave doggie business in these containers as I can sure smell all of it! Sometimes she will carry it with us all the way home and then she puts it in her special plastic pail with a cover in the garage. Why, I do not know. I find this behavior very odd. Sometimes when we go to the vet she even brings it along and gives it to the vet – I am guessing it is a really special gift or something. Really, have you ever seen a dog pick up human business and carry it around or give it to another dog? I find this human behavior very odd and if anyone understands the reasons behind it let me know. I just hope that mom is not offended that I don’t care about her business as I never want to disappoint her!
One pawnote – we aren’t allowed to do our “business” in the yard, so we only do it on walks. Since we came to live with mom she has taught us to go for a walk, do our thing and then come home to play in the yard, so we never think of using our yard for our business. We have seen other friends that use their yards for their business and have their humans picking up all their “yard business” and keeping it as well – this is so strange!

Interesting post Emma!
We have something for you! Check it out here….http://dogsnpawz.com/getting-a-blog-award-is-the-best.html
Thanks you guyz! Super cool – I appreciate it!
People are really the funny ones, aren’t we?
Yes you humans have some odd quirks and we are supposed to see you as superior…very confusing 😉
Me and Nellie have a huge area to do our business in, but once a week brother goes around with a plastic bag and spade and collects all our businesses up and puts them in a special bin next to the rabbits and then mummy puts the bag in the car and takes it down to the “rubbish” bin down the road. Now, that you mention it is is most odd. Love Nellie and Jasper
Hi Emmadog, your article is very interesting. I have one of those dogs that will not let me go to the small room with the cold chair by myself. He must always go with me, at least when we are down stairs. My girl covers the upstairs little room so I don’t sneak out.
That sneaking out risk is a huge issue I feel. Glad you liked my post 🙂
I love it!!
Yes, us humans are weird. We don’t greet each other by sniffing crotches or butts either… don’t know why, we just don’t. 😀
Emma, Gwennie asked me to tell you that she is glad you covered this important topic on your blog. You deserve the Pawlitzer Prize for this timely and incisive report!
I figured no one wanted to mention it but us dogs all wanted to know, so I went out on a limb and discussed it 😉
Oh Emma, you are so funny 😀 I think humans see themselves as your slaves and, therefore, must clean up after you. Of course, giving vets “your business” as gifts is decidedly odd but, being vets, they are obviously so fond of you that they will take anything they can get 😀
Thanks for the insight on the vet, they do seem to fawn over me when I go there. Humans! 😉
Hi Emma,
You’re funny!! Some times I think it best not to try and understand the humans?!
I wait outside the little room in our house and often my fur creeps under the door, which I think can scare my Mum sometimes!! Tee Hee
Wags to all
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
I am just a curious pup, maybe cuz I live with 2 cats – LOL!
My dogs never do their business outside of the yard. Never once have i had to take bags with me on any walk.
We just don’t like the landmines in our yard and mom would have to clean it up anyway and we are always walking so it works for our family.
What a funny thought. As for the bathroom door being closed, Gretel doesn’t like it either but instead of looking for a trap door she tries to get on my lap. Ha, ha.
The lap thing is a cat job in our house 🙂
Interesting and thoughtful post Emma! I seem to have an audience when I do my business! They have to know where I am at all times!
Hey Emma, Hey Katie, Jet here.
Brilliant pondering, JJ and I concur completely… with each and every point! Mom also makes a big deal (and my human sister more so) that those scoop bag thingies have pretty or manly dispensers and appropriate colors and designs on the bags. Puzzling to say the least!
Humans are complicated creatures…need I say more 🙂
Nope, ‘nuf said!
Hmm. My dogs have to be in the “business” room in the house whenever I am. What’s up with that? The smell? It’s not pleasant.
We rarely go with mom in the “business room”, we are just not that interested 🙂
Good point about those cold chairs. I’ve heard that evil kitties sometimes use them. That alone tells you just how terrible they are for doing your business!
I’ve heard of kitties falling in – BOL!!!
Hmmm….maybe I can push them in. They might try and scratch me, but it would be worth it. LOL!
I want to see that when it happens!
