My good friend Gizmo asked me to sign up for some dog walk called the Idita-Walk 2013. I had no idea what it was all about, I just know that mom, Katie and I are always out walking, so I asked mom if we could join. She told me about the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska and that this walk was raising money for some causes up in Alaska. My first thought was, how fun, mom is going to pull Katie and I all over creation in a sled…well…wrong…
There is no sled for our part of the competition and if there was, mom says we would be pulling her…I think not! I heard that the actual race in
Alaska is 1049 miles long, so what we do is walk 1049 minutes over a 59 day time period starting February 1. They even have an online time sheet for logging in your minutes every day and it automatically adds them up! This will be a piece of cake for us I think, since we walk at least an hour a day we will knock off the 1049 quickly! I went online and signed us up and paid the $10 donation fee. Since mom, Katie and I always walk together I signed up mom and I, and Katie can just walk along, she does
not care about this online stuff anyway. I am now dog number 118 on the doggie roster and proud of it!
I believe you have to sign up for the Idita-Walk 2013 by February 15, 2013 if you want to participate, so you still have time. It is fun to log in your walking times, be donating to a good cause, see how your friends are doing and do something healthy all rolled into one activity. (Did I forget to mention it helps you keep your girlish figure…blushing under my fur!) I have posted a couple of photos from my walks the past week…I may not be in Alaska, but honestly, sometimes our weather is colder than theirs, so it is a similar feeling, just no sled!
I also have a last minute update on the walk, not only is my friend Gizmo walking but Bunny and her Mom from Tales and Tails, Loy and Y from Loy Turns 60, and You did what with your weiner are all walking as well and we have formed a team called Dogventurers. I added a ticker with our progress below, looks like we will be done in a few days but we will still keep walking because that is what we do, day in, day out, every day of the year!
What a wonderful idea, even if you don’t get to be pulled around on a sled 🙂
I am thinking maybe I can get mom to just pull me on a sled for fun but I doubt she will.
Sounds like fun!
We always are walking so why not walk “online” with friends!
We do a lot of walking too. Maybe next year we will join!
Sam
It is simple, you can still join this year…it will only take us about 2 weeks to complete it.
Emma you never cease to amaze me !! The adventures you are involved in, sound like so much fun . I’d love to go on a lot if walks with Frankie and Carly but he would poop out after two blocks! Haha

Well, mom is a drill sergeant! We were never allowed to just say we were tired so we learned to just go along and we learned to love long walks. It is good for all of us!
What a great cause to walk for! 🙂
Thanks!
Wow, you guys are racing along!! Great job – I really thought you were going to Alaska to sled for a minute, maybe your Mom will let you do that in your backyard instead?
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Cousin Lena lives on a hill and her mini-humans have a sledding track so we can cruise downhill over there 😉
That sounds like a great idea. I wonder if I could do it but actually walk to Alaska:-)
Now that would be a fun trip…for me I would get to go through all the woods in Canada and stuff!
Emma, What a great Idea – thanks for letting us know about it!
I’m going to challenge the dogs in my neighborhood to race me. Thank it would be humiliating to be beaten by two beagles?
Never underestimate us smaller dogs…we have the speed when we want to use it!
Wow Emma you put us to shame…we thought we were doing pretty good at 209 minutes BOL! Pretty sure we’ll finish early too…then when we are, Mom will do another ticker so we can add up everything for the two months…we won’t beat you, but that doesn’t matter causwe we’z furriends and teammates and support each other…we’re all getting fitter and stronger and that is what it’s all about! *hugs*
Mom and I are just happy when our friends and their mom’s are out enjoying the great outdoors by walking, that is the whole point 🙂 Racing is a different story!
Like this so much just pawed your fb page. Woof woof. I’m the one bending over with all the dogs around me. woof woof. Paulette
Thank you!, I will have to race over and check it out 🙂
Sounds great! Good luck on your journey!
Thanks…
I’m gonna tell mom to check this out! It might make her walk Ash like she’s suppose to be doing! Mom gave up on walking me a long time ago cause I leave pee mail everywhere and she got tired of stopping every other footstep so I could leave my mark! Tee Hee!
You should try it out, maybe it will be the missing motivation!
Hi
It’s Jasper here. Can you send a photo of Katie over to Mary at Ranger’s blog. Email is
scottierangerATgmailDOTcom in preparation for the ball. Thanks Jasper.
Just sent them to that email, if you don’t get them let me know.
Wishing great success to all the Dogventurers. Wonderful idea! 🙂
Just something fun to do with others online 🙂
That is such a great idea, we saw Gizmo talking about it, what fun xxooxx
Mollie and Alfie
You guys could walk along too 😉
Hi Emma! Its nice to meet another Dogventurer! Good luck on finishing your walk! Love Dolly (its been really cold here too!)
Hi Dolly, we actually finished on Feb. 15th. Since we walk so much it did not take long at all but it was still fun to join! Keep on paw padding along…
We’re about halfway to the finish line, which is behind for us. We are usually really close to the end by the end of February, but I had to share Mom with the hospital and Grandpa for a few weeks this month. I still know we can make it in plenty of time, though! You guys did great!
Bunny
Hey, things in life come up. We figured we would finish in about 10 days total but mom was sick so we were only walking an hour a day or so. The goal is to finish, not for speed, so I know you will make it!
Oh Emma! Congratulations on finishing the Idita-Walk! You rock!! We are about 2/3 done and our weather is supposed to be getting warmer. Sure looks like you did most of your Idita-ing in the snow, too. (And thanks a lot for the mention!!) Happy Sunday!
Any time…we are all weather walkers and prefer winter walking over summer 🙂
