Today I am combining the April 26th “I Hiked For Park Day” along with FitDog Friday since we were hiking around at the park. I Hiked For Park Day is sponsored by my friends Gizmo and Finn. Please keep in mind we went to Minnehaha Park on Saturday April 20 as there has been so much grey and snowy weather, it was the best day for sunshine. We had a balmy 40 degrees Fahrenheit but despite the heat wave there was snow all over and the waterfall was still half frozen. Now if you know anything about water and freezing, moving water rarely freezes. Here in the deep freeze, aka Minnesota, the falls often freezes but still being partially frozen the end of April is rare! I am so overly pawproud to be living in such a frozen paradise! Mom took this photo of just the falls and put the arrow on the part to the right that is still frozen. As always, you can just click on a photo to see it in a larger size!
Mom had to go on some showings in the area on Saturday, so we went along “to work” with her and afterwards we got to go to Minnehaha Park. There were not too many people there (I wonder why on such a lovely day) but most of the people that were there had come with dogs. We were well behaved and did not have any bad interactions with other pups, I did not even howl at any! Normally I howl when I see a strange dog but there were simply too many too howl at and I was busy sniffin’ around and taking in the scenery!
Being short I could not see much because of the railings out of rock around the falls, so I had to stand on my back paws to get a good look. There were lots of trees and lots of squirrels in the trees which I found much more interesting than the actual waterfall.
We walked over to the John H. Stevens house which was closed. Katie and I took a short break on the front porch. This house is supposedly the place where the idea of creating the City of Minneapolis took place. The house is now used as a museum. We also saw the old Minnehaha railroad depot but did not go there because of all the cars on the road that we would have had to cross.
We also walked along the creek for a bit, I was really tempted to jump in for a swim but mom would not let me. She said that the current was very strong and I would end up going over the falls. It sounded like a fun adventure to me but if she says I could get hurt or killed I better listen. It is such a pretty area too with the stone arch bridge.
There are sure a lot of picnic areas in the park too. There are so many meeting points they had signs for the different areas for people to meet up at. I am sure it would be even more fun with warmer weather!
That was our trip to Minnehaha Park and Falls!
Today I am participating in the very important FitDog Friday blog hop hosted by SlimDoggy, Peggy’s Pet Place and To Dog With Love. Dogs and their humans staying fit is a topic that is super important to my mom and we hope this blog hop will encourage other pet parents to get out and exercise with their furry ones! Show your support on this topic by stopping by the hop and saying “woof” to a few other blogs or better yet, join in the FitDog Friday blog hop yourself!

We are going to hit 70 this weekend…it is disappearing fast, spring seems to be here finally! Next up swimming 🙂
Woof! Woof! I bet its beautiful in the summer. LOVE the way you say it is “Frozen paradise” Don’t you worry the snow will melt soon but Woof! Woof! to you and your mom for going out for a walk even though its cold. Happy PARK Day and FitDog Friday. ! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
We even walk when it is -20, mom loves walking with us…snow is disappearing fast…spring has finally arrived! TGIF!
Emma – looks like a great park, but oh so cold. Good thing you and Katie have such nice furry coats to keep you warm. You should get your mom to take you back there when it’s warm so you can wade in that nice water.
Spring has arrived as of yesterday, so swimming season is just around the corner, can’t wait!
Hiya Emma! What a cool frozen waterfall! Unbelievable! Thanks for coming to Park Day with us!
Thanks for hosting it, Finn! Luckily, this weekend spring has arrived so hopefully no more snow and ice!
What a wonderful white park you have there Emma. Good thing you work your fur coat on your hike. I loves your photos.
Wags,
Ranger
Thanks…a good fur is a necessity in Minnesota unless you are a dog that likes to wear a coat but I prefer my own fur.
What a gorgeous spot to take a hike Emma! Love the pictures of the frozen falls!
Maybe we will go back when the place thaws out and turns green.
So pretty! Bet you will be glad when that snow disappears and you have lots of sun! Have a great weekend!
Snow and ice are finally on the way out this weekend!
Now that was really a cool park day (pun intended)! That frozen waterfall was pretty though!
Cool? Cold? It is neat to see 🙂
I loved reading about your adventure and happy you listened to your Mom and didn’t try out the water! You live in such a gorgeous winter wonderland! I like that lovely bridge too and would really like to see those falls in person!!! You and Katie make a pretty team!!!
The falls are neat but those squirrels are really great!
Love the photos, Emma! Looks like a great day!
Thanks, we had fun!
What a cool park, I hope you get to enjoy it when it thaws out some!
I think we will go back again this summer.
Emma, that looks like a GREAT day! Frozen waterfalls are stunning. 🙂 Thanks for sharing all the gorgeous photos!
Thanks for stopping by 😉
Oh Emma, we’ve been to your park and it is beautiful especially in the winter with the frozen waterfall. Moms sister lives in Bloomington–so we know MInneSNOWta!! Mom says we’re going to be making a trip to see her sissy soon, it would be fun to meet up.
By the way…we are not from Germany, but our Grandpa came from Germany when he was a young man. We’re going to add you to our list of blogs to follow.
Guten Tag!!
With the name Schatzie, you just never know. We are in the south metro, let me know when you are here. We want mom to take us back when it is summertime and the water is all thawed out!
Thank you for coming to Park Day Emma! Momz and I are both astounded…I’ve never seen any waterfalls and Momz sez she’s never seen a frozen one…That’s so kewl…It’s probably good those walls are there…You’d be one frozen pup if you fell in that icy water…Your park looks beautiful and the stone arch bridge is something we don’t see here…Thank you for sharing 🙂
Well, we don’t have the “tropical” stuff like you do so that is what makes sharing so much fun! I swim in ice water and it doesn’t bother me but mom tries to keep me from doing that. Thanks for hosting!
That looks like an awesome park. I am a big fan of waterfalls. Years ago my hubby and I went to Mankato on our way back from South Dakota because I wanted to see a waterfall there. Unfortunately we got stuck in a blizzard so no waterfall for us!
Imagine that, a blizzard here in MN…was it summertime??? LOL!
We were stuck there for 3 days in a Budgetel with no food. Ah memories…lol. It was this one.

Oh yes, mom knows that one. She got home really late from her trip, she was a flight attendant and bought a shovel on the way home as it was her first house…stuck at home for 2 days!
Wow I can’t believe you still have snow, that’s crazy. I am so glad we have a little sun here at last. But I must say, it looks like you didn’t mind at all, you had fun in the park no matter what. I hope you told that squirrel off!
We love snow, no big deal for us but spring has arrived and the stuff has almost all melted away 🙂
Maybe you should go back to that park in the Summer when maybe you could have a picnic, Emma! The frozen waterfall was beautiful though, what a lovely park. I really enjoyed seeing it.
I’m sure we will go back in the summer.
What a wonderful park, Emma. I cannot believe the waterfall is still frozen. I am so glad you got to sniff out squirrels – they are evil and must be destroyed. BOL
*Cairn cuddles*
Oz
Those squirrels are trying to take over the world, I am sure of it!
your frozen waterfall and the stone bridge are beautiful! looks like you had a great visit, despite the weather. i can’t believe you were sitting ON SNOW!!! brrr
wags, bailey
Believe me, we have extra fur on our behinds here in MN…we are always out doing stuff, so no problems with the cold and snow for us.
I still can’t get over how much snow you still have. Its so pretty!
It is pretty much gone now…spring finally arrived.
This looks like a beautiful park and the photos are great. I feel bad that our Seattle park day hike was actually too hot!
That will be our next problem, we do better with cold weather.
Emma, your park is gorgeous! I can’t believe how nicely you and Katie sit in the snow. When Mom wants me to sit in snow, I only do it for 2 seconds. It’s TOO COLD on my bits and pieces. I hope you get to go back to the picnic area when the snow is gone.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
We are in the snow all the time for months, so it doesn’t bother us a bit…we both have nice fur coats too 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
It looks like such a lovely walk!
It was a great place!
what a great park trip. can’t believe that waterfall is frozen – incredible!
I know…Minnesota is a total winter place!
You and Katie look so pretty in your beautiful park. My human daddy is from Minnesota, so I’ll have to share your pictures with him. He’ll probably remember a lot of those spots . . . and how cold and long his winters used to be!
This winter was extremely long! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
That looks like a beautiful place to spend the day Emma. I’m glad you got out and about!!
We try to find new places that are fun.
