As a dog, I have always wanted to go camping but my mom will never go camping! Mom needs a nice hotel and will not think of sleeping in a tent with no electricity or plumbing, so I have given up. Surprise! When my friends were staying with us over the Fourth of July, Mom said it was the ideal time for us dogs to try out camping. All sixteen paws were definitely in for this adventure. We each got our own backpack with our necessities and headed out to the yard. Mom had to pitch the tent as us dogs don’t have thumbs, which are needed to assemble a tent properly. We heard a lot of language I don’t want to re-bark on this blog coming from Mom. She has never assembled a tent, and although it was supposed to be easy, she was failing. After going in the house and watching videos about putting up a tent on YouTube, she returned and got the thing standing.
We all piled into the tent – what a cool shelter! I ruffled up the blankets a bit to make a comfy pillow spot and it was all good! We set up a pool outside, got out our toys from our backpacks, laid out our beach towels and started camping, aka, roughing it in the backyard!
Lena and Buddy wanted nothing more than to play fetch with the tennis ball and Frisbee. Those two would run until they were dead if Mom let them! I was the more sensible dog and preferred to hang out in the shade and relax.
Katie was out in the yard refereeing the youngsters, her favorite thing to do. Eventually she managed to get the tennis ball and enjoyed a bit of fun herself!
At one point Katie and I decided to dress up as the “Glam Sisters”. How do we look? Styling or what? Katie even got a smile going for the camera!
Lena was only too happy to relax in my pool after running after tennis balls like a maniac. She kind of took it over as her own but that’s ok, after her sweaty dog self was in there I sure did not want to go in!
After a bit we all just grabbed a towel (yes, we had our own but this was everyone’s favorite) and hung out together, enjoying the gorgeous day.
I must say that our campsite was pretty cool, and once again, we had lots of fun! If only we could go camping in the wilderness with the wabbits and bears, but I don’t think Mom will ever do that.
Today I’m joining in the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies and Luna, A Dog’s Life
Emma, that sure looks like fun! My Mom is not a fan of camping either. “It’s a hotel or nothing,” she says.
That looks like soooo much fun! I can’t wait to go camping now 🙂
Oh Emma that looks a blast, have you room for one more 🙂 xx00xx
Mollie and Alfie
Emma, look at all the fun you and your friends had! That is certainly my idea of camping too!
It was a fun day and that tent was fun to hang out in too!
This is just too cute!! I am glad Misaki saw it since they are trying to get Misaki used to a tent. I would love to read the thoughts of your neighbors when they saw this! BOL! Just great!
Our neighbors know that Mom is “a bit different” 🙂 We are the only ones without kids too, so we are really odd but they all think it is fun all the stuff Mom does with us!
I love camping anywhere–even in the backyard. It looks like your mom went to a lot of trouble to give you dogs an exciting day at camp.
BTW, maybe you could convince your mom to take you camping in a tent that has hot showers and heated bathroom floors like here: http://www.pawsup.com/glamping/moonlight-camp.php#.Ue0meeDfaaB
If not, you can always come visit and go camping with me and Honey. 🙂
That looks pretty cool! Maybe some day she will take us up north for some hiking and camping but I kind of doubt it, just not the sleeping outdoors type but the tent in the yard was fun.
That looks like so much fun. It’s hard to go camping in Manhattan but if we are ever out your way can we stop and visit your camp?
Give me a little notice so Mom can round up a tent again. Camping in Manhattan would be rough…hard to get the tent stakes into the concrete!
Emma, I’m with your mom – did enough camping when I was young to last me. It looks like you guys had a great time though just roughing it in the backyard. So glad even Katie got into it!
It was fun…something new in the yard is always fun, but new and with friends is extra fun!
Y’all sure did have a good time but I didn’t see Mom in the tent with you!
I think after she finally got it to stand up she was pretty tired of it!
What a fun fun time!! Since your mom knows how to set up the tent now, maybe next time you can go to the woods. Love the photos too.
Probably without Mom…she is not real into the thought of sleeping in the woods in the tent. Katie and I said we would protect her but she thinks hiking and then a hotel would be more fun.
That looks like lots of fun! Your mom is one cool mom to do that for you guys!
We are her girls, so she does do lots of stuff for us!
LOL now that is my kind of camp! Did you have s’mores?!
No, but we did have some yummy ice cream treats 🙂
If you can’t go to the mountain, bring the mountain to you – looks like you guys had a blast,
It was hot but it was a lot of fun, especially for my tennis ball/Frisbee crazed pals!
Haha, mom agrees with your mom! Hotels only for us!
Nola
Yay!!! My mom is not alone!
Oh Emma…what fun! I love going camping (and my Ma will actually go into the “wilderness” to camp). It looks like you all had a great day filled with summer fun!
*Cairn cuddles*
Oz
We did have a blast and we all slept really well too!
Oh my dog, Emma! Imagining your mom setting up the tent about KILLED me! I’m dying laughing! And imaging y’all camping fer reals? BOL! Yeah.
We like camping. The dogs like it the best, since we try and find campsites near lakes, so they can swim. It’s not too bad if you’re near a nice bath house. Campgrounds have bath houses, you know. And sometimes there’s even a general store.
Katie and I are ready to go, it is Mom that is holding us back 🙂
Oh, Emma, your crew really knows how to have a good time! What a blast! My dogs are jealous. I’m with your Mom…no more roughing it. But how sweet was it of her to set up the tent for you and everything? Kobi used to get to go camping when he was young, but the others have never been. I LOVE the Glam Sisters!
Gotta have some glam, even when you are camping! We had lots of fun, I don’t think Lena or Buddy have been in a real tent before either.
How FUN! Oh My! You guys are very well behave and neat campers. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
Gotta stay organized and no littering 🙂
It looks like you guys had a good time. Mom and I like the same kind of camping, although I would go in an RV. 🙂
I don’t know if we could get mom in an RV either…she is a hotel kind of girl!
(Looks like my comment disappeared… Here goes again…) We would love to try camping, but I don’t think Rita would do well. If we went to a real camp spot, she’d be so freaked out by the noises, she’d be barking all night and we’d be run out of camp by s’mor-stick-wielding campers. And we can’t try it in our backyard, cuz our yard is all wood deck, concrete and a slope that’s super steep! We are jealous of your yard! looks like everyone had tons of fun!
We have a great pretty flat yard for playing and the deck is big enough but doesn’t use much of the yard. I would probably howl in the night if we went real camping 🙂
That looks like so much fun! Love the pictures!
We had a blast!
Looks like a pawesome camping trip!!!!
It was, even if it was just in the yard.
Hey guys
What an awesome advert for your B&B – I so want to check in and hang out with you all too! 🙂
Have fun
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
There is always plenty of fun at my place…and we seem to always find room for anyone that wants to stay with us, so come on over!
Sounds like you all had a really fun time and there was something for everyone. We hope there was a camp dinner too so everyone didn’t go hungry!
Go hungry at my house…would never happen 🙂 Plenty of good meals and snacks for those in between times!
I love that your mum put up a tent for the lot of you, wow! Looks like so much fun!
We were impressed once she got that tent to stand up on its own!
The bestest doggy campout we have ever seen!
It was super fun!
I’m like your mom, Emma. I’ve never pitched a tent either and camping is NOT for me. But your kind of doggy camping sounds like so much fun! You have a great yard for it and great friends to share the fun!
Your mom had all the work, hehe… setting up the tent, preparing all the supplies, getting all the great pictures, then putting it all back away again! Poor Mom! But I know you guys are worth it!
We are her kids, she would do anything for us and she likes to make sure we have fun. If we are having fun, so is she 🙂
Aw this is so cute! I especially love that picture of you guys on your towels. Looks like you had a great time camping. I used to go camping a lot when I was younger but haven’t gone in a long time. The only time I really insist on a hotel is at the beach. I hate camping in the sand. Just need a nice shower to get all that sand off!
I love being covered in sand but I don’t enjoy the getting clean part 😉
Wooooowooooooo so much fun!
Yes, it was!
What an absolutely FUN camping adventure you guys had!!!!!!!!!!! Lucky dog, you!
It was something different and then with my friends there too, it was lots of fun!
Looks like you had a great camping “trip”! We don’t mind roughing it in the wilderness from time to time although there’s usually a lot of pacing and huffing in the beginning!
We love hiking through the wilderness but have never tried the real camping. I would probably howl in the night.
This is by far the cutest post I have seen this week. Doggy camping! And with the cutest ones around aswell, Emma you are truly a little star! 🙂
Oh thank you! It was a lot of fun 🙂
I adore your blog and the fun you have!!!!!!! Not that we don’t have fun in Brooklyn, but you guys just take the cake!
Matilda the greyhound
Thank you! We have lots of fun. Mom spoils us since we are her girls, no human kids…hope your blog transfer is coming along well!
Wow – it sure looks like your mom went to a LOT of trouble to make sure you all had fun on your camping trip. I hope she got tons of kisses and wags for her effort. 🙂
Believe me, there are more than enough snuggles, hugs and kisses around our house…sometimes I think there may be too many!
This was a really great party you had! In case you ever want to try different camping, you can rent RVs from Cruise America: http://www.cruiseamerica.com/rent/hot_deals/ We’ve seen several of them at RV parks on our travels & most were carrying their dogs. More and more though, some RV parks are restricting dog size, so research before making reservations is necessary. You can find some really amazing campgrounds these days with great pools & other activities going on during peak season. Everyone else gets SOME of the camping experience they want & Dee doesn’t get any of the things she finds offensive–like sleeping with bugs in dirt. There are also the KOA cabin options at most KOAs http://koa.com/lodges-cabins-cottages/
Maybe the cabin would be an option, otherwise Mom is more the drive the car and stay in a hotel type.
