Before I get to my story about fire department mischief I have two announcements:
- The winner of the first week giveaway of my upcoming book is Deb Smith with a guess of 137 pages. The book has a total of 140 pages. Congratulations, Deb!
- The Blogville calendar photo voting is open. Please click here for the post where you can vote. I am the super cute GBGV in the leaf pile! In the list I am under “E” for Emma. The calendar money goes to a good cause to help our friend Benny who has cancer, so stop by and vote!
The weather has gotten unbearably hot again in my neck of the woods so I got to thinking about what I could do to cool down. I realized the fire department plays with water all the time. I also realized they always have Dalmatians riding on their trucks. Then it hit me, I look just like a Dalmatian – I mean I have black spots, so why not have a GBGV join the fire department?
Before I signed up I thought it best to stop by the local fire department to see what all my job would entail, I wanted to meet the guys, and I wanted to be sure it would be the right job for me.
The guys were super friendly to me right off the bat. I think they could see my similarity to a Dalmatian yet being more compact I could fit better into the trucks. First they showed me some of their equipment. I paid close attention as that gear looked pretty complicated. I have only seen these guys on calendars where they did not appear to be wearing all of this stuff.
I took a good look at all the gauges, especially for the hoses since I am looking to get nice and soaked if I join the department.
I made sure the cones were in place so we could block off the street if I was playing in the water at an actual fire.
I tested out the front and back bumpers to see which would be more comfortable to ride on.
Then I popped the big question…could I drive the fire truck? I pointed out that I had lived in Germany, am familiar with high speed, and I have my driver’s license but they flat out turned me down. They said I had to ride in the back seats. I could not believe it! At least I could face backwards which is how I like to sit when Mom drives the car. I like to see where we have been, Katie likes to see where we are headed.
After all that I also found out that they hang out with fires which are hot and dangerous, so I decided to leave this position to the Dalmatians. You have to admit it would be impressive to see me on top of a hook and ladder truck! Maybe I can get the guys to do a calendar with me instead…I guess I could take off my collar to pose with them, I best check with Mom first.
I’m joining in the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies
LOL cute pictures. Best to stay away from fires so that you don’t singe your nice fur!
Yep, we don’t even light candles at our house, so those big fires would not be a good thing.
LOL! Well, I think you’d make an excellent fire dog… and an even better fireman’s calendar model! 😉
I think I have to put that career on hold. I will have to see if the boys want to pose with me. I hear that not all firemen are in calendars.
I love the idea of you as a fire dog – but the calendar is safer
I am pretty fearless but I think Mom would worry about me riding around on top of a fast moving truck and then hanging out around fires.
OMG so cute! I love that you did this. What a unique idea. We have a fire station just down the road from our house. I’ve never seen a dog there; so I wonder if they have one.
Thanks. If they are friendly, I’m sure you could stop by when they are around and hang out for a bit with the dogs.
It would be impressive to see you riding on top of a firetruck Emma!
It’s been super hot here too, the boys would love to get sprayed down with a big fire hose!
I forgot to ask if they have a seat belt for me on top of the truck, that would be a must! I could howl and save them the trouble of using their sirens.
Awww, they wouldn’t let you drive the truck? And you have your own license and everything! You look good in the photos, but fires can be scary and it would be a shame to get you all sooty. 😉
I don’t mind getting all dirty, but that fire stuff might be a bit too scary for me.
OMD you look super cute but I would leave that job to the professionals..BOL Big congrats to the winner we was way out xx00xx
Mollie and Alfie
You can try again this week to win a book on Thursday, new contest 🙂 I decided to find a different career, fires are just to scary.
I think you’d make an excellent fire addition to the fire dept
For sure my howling would be useful!
Wow, I think you could fit right in! Too cute, and cool too.
Thanks, I really am so much like a Dalmatian with my spots!
Hey Emma
How cool you got to hang out on a fire truck with the fire fighters!! I’m not sure they really would enjoy a female back seat driver though? Maybe they’ll let you drive after all?
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Maybe if I just howl non stop they will give in and let me drive?
I don’t blame you for leaving the job to the Dalmatians. First of all, it was insulting that they would not allow you to drive. And secondly, Dals don’t have that long fur like yours – you wouldn’t want it to catch fire, right?
No, I don’t want to get burned, that would be bad. It was fun to check out the truck, though.
Looks like fun!
It was fun sniffin’ around there.
Well that was a swell visit to the fire station. We sure are envious. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
Like to keep up on things in the neighborhood, especially when they make loud howling noises like sirens do!
Those fire house dogs sure do work hard!
They work like dogs – LOL!
Maybe when the Dalmatian calls in sick you can be the substitute? You look great on that truck!
Now there is an idea…I better walk down there and give them my number!
Cute photos! You and a bunch of firefighters sounds like a good idea for a calendar to me! 🙂
Now I have to track down the boys and see if they would take their collars off with me 😉
How fun! I understand having to ride in the back seat, though. 🙂
I really was hoping to get to drive the big rig but maybe it is a guy thing…they don’t want a cutie like me showing them up with my driving skill!
That was a great idea, Emma, even if it didn’t work out! It might have been fun if not for the whole fire part. I think you are definitely more suited to being the calendar model!
I think that is more me. I don’t have to be all fancy always to be a model, and it isn’t so dangerous!
You’re a very smart cookie! I visited fire stations when I was a pup. Those firemen are pretty nice guys and kind of fun to hang out with. But all those clothes and boots and hats are awfully heavy! And you’re right about staying away from fires! Maybe you should be a swimming pool lifeguard?!
The season is short here in Minnesota…I think I need to guard bird feeders against squirrels and work on my modeling.
Although I think you would be a great fire dog, it is best you leave it to the two-legged ones. You will be safer 🙂 I think you would make a great “collared” model.
Whew…nice to know some fans are not into those “nude” shots…normally I only take my collar off at bed time.
Tee hee! The part where you talked about them not wearing all of their gear in those calendars cracked me up! I think they’d be lucky to have you on their team, but it does seem like an awful lot of work.
Bunny
🙂 I think is would be too much work, I guess I will just be happy being a fun dog at home.
He is a funny looking Dalmatian lol. Cute pics 🙂
I’m a little girl 🙂 but I think my black spots might be bigger than a Dalmatian’s spots!
You look so handsome on that firetruck. Looks like a great day you had.
It was fun checking it all out and sniffing around!
Roooo Emma what a pawsome idea! Shame it didn’t work out in the end, but I like your thinking! *Waggy tail*
Thanks Alfie! I think if nothing else they could use my howling instead of their sirens.
BOL typist would love to see a calendar of you and the firemen
I bet it would be a best seller calendar even if I wore my collar!
Emma,
How did you get a tour of the fire department as well as photos all over the fire truck?!? You are one lucky doggie! I think you would be a blast riding atop a hook and ladder truck. Imagine the surprise of the people you would save!!
*Cairn cuddles*
Oz
Hey, pal! It’s all in your connections 😉 I would love to ride along but I think those big fires might be pretty scary and all that smoke might block my hound nose! You are right, though, no one would be expecting me to show up, it might create a bit of laughter in an emergency!
Maybe you can invite me for a ride in this cool car? We could use the siren and the tube to give my staff a nice bath! That would be cool. Thanks for sharing this great photos with me, you are a fabulous firefighter girl!
I would love to go for a ride myself…I can be the siren with my howling!
The nerve of them telling you that you could not drive the truck. They don’t know what a good driver you are. I would go to the police station and ask if you can ride with them. Maybe they will be more appreciative.
After my police incident a couple weeks ago, I am trying to keep a low profile with them…you know how it is, once arrested always a criminal in their minds 😉
Emma, what a fantastic post! How awesome that you got to visit the fire station! I’m so impressed with all your pics. No ride? You should’ve at least gone on a spin around the block!
Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone you’ve been looking at the firefighter calendars 😉
No ride, but I don’t think they had a seat belt for me, so I couldn’t go with them anyway. It was fun sniffing around all their stuff.
If you ever decide you want to be a fire dog, we think you would be a really good one, even if you aren’t a Dalmation! You are so lucky to get to visit the fire station. What a cool trip to take!
Just having fun seeing something new and different 🙂
that is a great set of pictures. looks like you had lots of fun hanging out at the station.
wags.
bailey unleashed
I did have a good time. Lots of fun new smells for this hound!
Emma, sparks would catch in your fur and that would be BAD. Driving while sitting backwards would be bad, too. I think you make a great chef and should stick with your known strengths. Even if they don’t involve hot firemen. 😉
Yeah, it looks like I will stick to cooking, baking, squirrel, and wabbit chasing. Not a bad life.
Did you enjoy climbing in the fire truck? It looks like fun.
It was fun and there was some good sniffing there too.
I can’t believe they flat out turned you down, aren’t they always looking for help? My experience with firefighters is they never look the way they do on those calendars.
The ones I saw looked pretty decent but they all were wearing lots of clothes. If they don’t want me, I will move on.
