I’m excited to announce that it is once again time for another installment of K9 Kamp hosted by Kol’s Notes and Peggy’s Pet Place! The theme for this Fall 2013 session will be “Fitness, Fun, & Games”. The challenge will be to get active with your dog(s) an extra 30 minutes, 3-4 times a week doing fun activities. Even though it is fall and most likely you have cooler weather, remember to always have fresh water available for your pup – activity makes us thirsty no matter what the temperature!
Some fun things you can do with your dog(s):
- Playing some fetch
- A little soccer (Katie’s favorite game)
- Playing Frisbee
- Hide and seek
- Agility
- Tracking work (Bailie is good at this already)
- Fitness classes
- Tug a war
- Chase and wrestle (My game of choice)
Although some of these activities seem more for the dog(s), humans can take part as well. I know Mom sometimes plays chase and wrestle with us. No we don’t care what the neighbors think because we are having fun! Katie and I have our new little sister Bailie who adds an extra challenge into the mix, but she will be attending some puppy classes with Mom that will challenge them both mentally with a bit of physical activity. Mom also enjoys playing hide and seek with us at the dog park to make sure that we don’t lose our focus on her. It is a bit scary for us at times but we do have fun. Since Bailie and I are scent hounds we may also do some seek and find games with hidden treats in the yard.
This short video shows how all three of us girls get into the chase and wrestle games in our yard! Lately we do this pretty much every night for 15-20 minutes. If you only have one dog, invite a dog friend over to play, dogs love friends!
To help make following K9 Kamp a bit easier this time around, a K9 Kamp Blog Hop has been set up. Feel free to join in the hop, post what you and your dog(s) are doing to stay fit and healthy. Branch out and try something new!
Happy K9 Kamping!
That video is so cute. I see Katie is the fun-governor keeping Bailie in line!
PS I was in Target yesterday and looked all over for Emma’s picture. All I saw was a cocker-spaniel imposter!
Mom found me at a Target by us yesterday, but last week I was not there. Who knows! Katie always enjoys the referee position 🙂
Katie seems to be the referee. Everyday I do my own Backyard Golden Play n Zoomies. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
Sometimes we do zoomies by ourselves too but it is more fun with one chaser and one being chased. Katie loves to play the ref. She does that at the dog park with other dogs too. Happy Friday!
Bawahwhahwa Katie barked and you both sat down 🙂 Loved it xxoxx
Mollie and Alfie
Katie is the senior boss around our place 🙂
I think I need a puppy for Katie.
A puppy gets everyone moving, even the cat!
What a great video. I love that Katie supervises, and yet gets a few licks in there when she can…good for her. My guys aren’t big players, so I don’t get to see this fun too often – thanks. And go Bailie…she keeps that Emma on her toes.
Bailie just pesters until someone gives in and chases with her. Great motivation!
That is so cute. Love Katies’ bark it sounds like Hey and then both sat down…well funny. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
She is the senior dog, so we have to respect and listen to her 🙂
Mom chases us in the park too. You should see my tiny little self run super fast.
We love watching Mom chase Bailie, Bailie usually wins that game!
Rocco would love to play backyard zoomies with you! We have two of his pals staying with us the next few weeks. So far, Rocco hasn’t had much luck getting them to chase him, but he’s not giving up!
Your pals,
Diane and Rocco
Being a pest is the best cure for that. Bailie pesters us until we finally play and once we start there is no stopping us!
Great video!! Rudy says you should come over for a game of Jolly ball!
Hmmm…we have never tried that. I bet Bailie would love it, I’m not much for toys but you never know. The more friends, the more fun and games!
I tries to play with Lyla and Panda the Boston terriers I live with. They just ignore me like I am Cinderella or Rudolph he Red nosed Reindeer! I am the senior citizen here! Their mom Hollee and I always have to be kept apart because we both think we are alpha dogs. Sigh. I have always wanted a little Bailie or Emma. Maggie the PBGV
I don’t really know any Boston Terriers. That is sad since you want to play. Katie and I sometimes won’t play with Bailie either but usually we are pretty nice to her. She can get on our nerves with her baby self.
Looks like you guys are having a lot of fun! Sampson and Delilah wrestle too, but not for long. Usually not more than five minutes or so, I see that little Bailie loves to play and is even engaging Katie, that’s awesome!!
Bailie keeps us all moving, that is for sure! We love chase and wrestle. Katie and I used to play all the time but now that she is older, she doesn’t play as much but she loves to watch Bailie and I and bark orders at us!
Looks like you guys are having a lot of fun there! Have a fab wheekend
Nacho, Noah, Buddy & Basil
xxxx
Thanks, we love having fun!
Emma you and Bailie are just great together and I love that Katie still wants to get in on the action…That’s a tribute to fit she is…Your mom does a great job keeping youall healthy and happy
Thanks, we seem to be a pretty good combination!
You three are looking great and very active! I bet Luna wishes she had a sibling to play with like you do!
Siblings are great most of the time but sometimes I do get a bit jealous and wish I had all the attention for myself.
That was a great video, Emma. It was good to see Katie getting in on the action too, at least a little bit! Ours don’t play like that much anymore, since they’re all older. Cricket still plays chase with Dad sometimes though, so I may see if I can get them started so we can all get some exercise. I like the idea of fun and games.
Katie will actually run a loop or two on occasion, but not that often anymore. We all keep each other moving in one way or another.
Fun! I will have to remember to take some pictures of our activities. 🙂
Please do and make sure to enter the blog hop to share!
I love this video of you three! LittleBear and Li’l Girl used to do zoomies and wrestle and play bitey-face back when LittleBear still felt well enough to. After he passed, we later adopted Austin and he and Li’l Girl don’t really play. Every blue moon, they’ll break out into a little bit of zoomies, but then it’s over as fast as it starts. I really miss watching dogs play together. Maybe we need to adopt a young, playful third to help get them moving. Just when I was thinking of adopting a senior, too.
All those ideas are great! I think we need to get our two doing something like nosework/scentwork. Would also love to have them do lure coursing because I know they’d love it… not to compete… just for fun and exercise.
Ha! I like that the Brown Dawgs called Katie a fun-governor! Great term… stealing that.
We love seniors too but little ones are so much fun, we have a great mix right now it seems. Katie is the one in control, that is her favorite role!
You take you cutest pics! That video is adorable. If we had a nice big yard, I’d get Rita a little sis in a heartbeat! We just don’t have room for 2 dogs. 🙁 That Bailie is sure a cutie!
Mom actually had her previous dog (100 lb Newfie/Lab mix) and Katie for several years in an apartment. It worked fine because she walked them at least two hours a day and in the house, they were real mellow. We enjoy our yard, but spend most of our time when we are not walking or going somewhere in the house napping and hanging out, so apartments really aren’t a problem if you take your dog out for enough exercise. That is our opinion.
You are very organized campers! I’m impressed!
Bunny
Mom is an organization nut, so we kind of have to be too 🙂
You always have the best time Emma and we love seeing you have fun!
That pretty much describes me and my breed, happy and fun 🙂
Thank you so much for the wonderful activity suggestions! I would love to learn more about what tracking work is all about! And it looks like you and Bailie have the best referee on the planet with Miss Katie! 🙂
Mom is excited to find out more about tracking but first Bailie has to finish kindergarten and obedience one. I think tracking will start in the springtime.
Mommy has tried to get us on the treadmill but no way are doing that! You guys look like you are having lots of fun! Your Bailie is a cutie:)
Treadmills are boring, we much prefer paw padding along in the great outdoors!
Looks like great fun!
There is always plenty of fun and adventure at my house!
