Bailie is sixteen weeks old now, and loves food, so I thought it is about time that I show her how to bake. It is her first time ever celebrating Halloween, so I decided to use a super simple Halloween cookie recipe to get her started. (If you look over my shoulder you may notice my photo bombing cat bro Bert, who was mad that I was not letting him help me bake.)
There are only six ingredients in this recipe and no mixer or blender involved making it ideal for puppies getting started in the baking world. I got all the ingredients out before Bailie even got to the kitchen. I usually borrow my mom’s Halloween cookie cutters even though some of them are pretty big. Katie eats the larger cookies and us smaller dogs get the smaller cookies, or Mom breaks a bigger one into smaller pieces before serving.
Making a good baker involves more than just baking, a dog also needs to look the part and have the necessary equipment. I let Bailie borrow one of my chef hats and an apron. The items were a bit large, but I know she will grow into them in no time. Being so crazy about food Bailie was a very attentive student and listened intently to everything I barked about.
We are scent hounds with amazing noses, so we prefer to give the ingredients a good sniff over before getting started to make sure everything smells as it should.
I put all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and made the nice firm dough. Bailie was not allowed to touch, only watch. To be honest, I moved her chair back a bit as I was afraid she might just eat the dough – she is that crazy about food.
Next it was time to roll out the dough and cut out those yummy cookies. Bailie was fascinated with my skills and all the fun shapes. Having never baked before, she doesn’t understand that the cookies will come from this dough and taste even better than the raw dough.
Since she was so patient and willing to learn, I decided to let her lick out the mixing bowl. Geez, she gets her whole head into that bowl! What a dog!
I finished my work, got the cookies in the oven, and was ready for a little nap. Lucky for me, now that I have an assistant, she can stand watch over the oven while I rest up.
Once they are out of the oven and cooled off, it is time to admire them for just a second and then dig in! They are so tasty, it was killing us all to wait for Mom to get a photo!
If you want to try making these or teach your puppy to bake them, click here for a downloadable pdf of the recipe with, of course, a photo of me and my baking assistant.
Enjoy!
PS: I think after another lesson or two, we will be ready to take this show on the road. Anyone have TV or Hollywood connections you could share? Just post in the comments and I will howl out to them, it is high time that someone hosted a dog cooking show!
I’m taking this post and joining the Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop fun sponsored by Kolβs Notes & Β Sugar the Golden Retriever
OMD how you didn’t eat the dough I will never know..Bawahwhahhwhaa xxooxx
Mollie and Alfie
Because Mom said not to and I get cookies later π
They look very good, Emma! Unfortunately, I don’t think us kitties could eat them :-/
Have a great day!
My cat bro Bert likes them, but he eats anything!
Bailie you have a great teacher. The photos are wonderful and the treats look yummy!
They are really good and lots of fiber…not that we didn’t already have enough output from Bailie π
Pawsome cookery glass there…we loved the pix. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
Thanks, I love baking.
Emma, can’t you come to my house and teach the doggies to bake? Or, bake for me, either way is fine. π
I would love to, it is fun and easy!
I loved how Bailey was so attentive to everything that you did. And where did you find the cute teaspoon set with paws on it? What fun!
She thinks I am the coolest dog on the planet and wants to do everything I do. I got my measuring spoons on Amazon.
Emma- you are the bestest teacher and big sister. Bailie listens to every word you say! The photos are priceless.
She enjoys learning, especially from me!
What clever baking doggies you are!! ^_^
Enjoy your cookies.

We are, they are super tasty!
Interesting you used Dry Milk. Golden LAUGHS to Bailie’s photos. On your last photo both Bailie n Katie were obviously wants to eat the treats. Happy Tasty Tuesday. Have a DELISH Day! Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
We have lots of recipes that use dry milk for some reason. We don’t have milk around much so that is fine with us. Main thing is that the cookies are really yummy!
I’m so glad you have a willing assistant now, that should really help out. I think a dog cooking show would be a great success.
Once she is trained in, I will be on easy street π
The mom looked at the picture of Bailie on her email and burst out laughing! She told me it was that she was already in a chef’s hat and apron right beside the pawsome Emma. THEN the mom went to the blog (whatever that is) and had this big goofy smile on her face as she read and looked at the pictures. She has a pumpkin treat recipe (no milk) recipe that I can eat, and I like it! She is even asked to bake them for the neighborhood cookie exchange for the poopers in the ‘hood. I hates sharing them! I know you are having a tasty Tuesday!
Aroos!
Pumpkin is really tasty and good for us too. We love these cookies. You could make them and just leave the milk out.
Thanks for the tip. π
I always love it when you do the cooking Emma!
Everyone always seems to like chef Emma π
Bailie is makin a great sou chef! Good job Emma!
I’m working on training her for everything important in life.
I like how Bailie watched you every step of the way, she’ll make an excellent head baker some day!
She always pays good attention to what I am doing.
Oh my goodness! You all look so cute in your little chefs hats!
Thank you, we hope we look professional!
You bakers look so cuuuuuuwoooooowooooooote! π
Thanks, waggy tails…
Wonderful recipe! π Looks like Bailie is going to become a great baker! Thanks for sharing and Happy Tasty Tuesday!
She is following in my paw prints π
P.S. The mom taught Home Economics (now Family and Consumer Sciences) mostly in the middle school for 38 years. It was the boys that discovered sitting in front of the oven and watching the cookies bake was the fun thing to do! She REALLY saw some UGLY cookies and AWFUL tasting cookies in her career! The stories she could tell. I am sure Emma, Bailie, and I could do better!
No doubt, you have to care about what you are doing and believe me, us dogs care about our cookies!
Wow, little Bailie is so attentive what an apt little student. You are a good big sister to her Emma!!
She wants to copy everything I do, finally I am an idol π
Who needs Martha Stewart when we have Emma and Bailie! That was phenomenal! Have a tasty tuesday!
Move your TV show over Martha, Emma and Bailie are taking the stage!
Adorable! (Though how you get a puppy to stay still for these photos is a real mystery to me!)
Mom has a way with us pups, we just do things for her. Bailie is pretty mellow and cooperative so it helps.
You guys are just too cute and I’m sure those cookies are a big hit!
They are wonderful and so simple to make!
From what you’ve told us about Bailie, it probably was wise to move her chair back like you did! She looks like she was a very good student, and of course you are a great teacher, Emma. I wish I had some contacts, because I think having your own cooking show is an awesome idea! π
P.S. The photos are just so darn adorable!
Thanks, hopefully Hollywood will find my blog one of these days…I know a dog cooking show would be a hit. Maybe I should try to contact Oprah and get it on OWN, she likes dogs?
I was so excited to see Bailie in the kitchen with you Emma…You are a good and patient teacher and Bailie will be baking in no time…Just think…two bakers equals twice the treats π Your recipe sounds super easy for newbie bakers
Bailie was pretty excited about baking since it involves eating. I know she will be a great helper!
OMG! You guys are so cute! We thinks a Hollywood dog cooking show would be perfect for you all!
Someone please get me the number for Hollywood! I need to howl out to them asap!
Those cookies turned out delicious! I love you guys with your little hats and standing by the oven…patiently! π
They are so yummy!
That Bailey sure makes a cute assistant!!! Hope you get your cooking show π
I need a Hollywood or TV connection…anyone have Oprah’s number?
You are having much better luck teaching Bailie to model than I am with Flattery! I must say, this sounds delicious, and I’m going to bark at Mom about getting us the ingredients for these!
Bunny
Delicious, healthy, and so very simple!
Well, you two certainly look like fabulous chefs and the cookies sound delicious!
Thank you, and the cookies are great!
Emma! You are doing a fantastic job teaching Bailie the ways of the kitchen! I’m super impressed! You really should have your own cooking show. I think you’d have a huge audience! You’re probably right about using the Oprah angle to get your paw in the Hollywood door.
I just need someone that knows a star to get my paw in the door!
LOVE your post!!!! That cute puppy face looking into the oven…AWWWWW!!!!
Thank you…she is going to be just like me some day!
Emma,
You are such a great big sister for Bailie. You two are soooo cute. I love the aprons and chef hats.
Bailie is growing so fast I’m sure she will fit in the apron real soon, but for now it is a bit big but she didn’t seem to mind π
Wow, good job to both of you guys. I love how Bailee is getting all dressed up in her chef’s costume early on. Super adorable and those cookies look yummy! Gracie Lu Shih Tzu, the French Maid will be happy to help you clean up π
I did not wear my baking attire until I was five, but Bailie is getting an early start, so much to teach her about!
Ems you are so good, I would’ve eaten that instead of posing with the mixture on the table BOL
I know the cookies are coming π
Totally loving the pics and the fun you had. I want a cookie!
They were so tasty and are almost gone now with three of us munching on them π
The photographs are wonderful. I think you really had Bailie’s interest when the cookies were in the oven.
I think she could smell them and was wondering what was going on!
OMG your blog is SO FUNNY! Love the photos of the dogs baking! I’m not sure my dog would sit that well.
So nice to meet you at BBCMPLS and thank you for joining the G+ community. I look forward to getting to know you better.
Hi Jamie! Thanks for setting up the G+ community. I will do my best to stay active…on my list of things to do, G+, G+, G+…enjoyed meeting you as well!
This is adorable!! I don’t think we met yesterday but I hope to get to know you online! π
Thanks! I don’t think we met but I think I saw you. I have lots of blogs to go to from BBC. Thanks for stopping by!
Oh goodness! When we met yesterday, I didn’t quite realize what your blog was about – now I get it and I love it!! Bailie looks particularly adorable in a chef’s hat and apron.
I was kind of the “odd” one as everyone else blogs about kids or home stuff, but I blog about my fur kids and keeping them happy and healthy. Thanks for stopping by!
This is so cute!! Your dogs are beyond adorable!
Thank you. Our aim is to bring smiles and to motivate people to do things with their dogs.
