Here we are again posting about fall K9 Kamp hosted by our friends Kol’s Notes, Peggy’s Pet Place and You Did What With Your Weiner. These days, keeping all of us fit and worn out has not been an easy task. It seemed that since Bailie arrived, the only worn out one was Mom, but we now are getting the hang of our new life. Just when we were figuring out an outdoor action plan, the weather turned and sent us K9 Kampers into the house. How do you wear out dogs in the house? With a four month old puppy, a seven year old, and an eleven year old, there are all kinds of requirements and restrictions when it comes to exercising so it was a challenge getting a plan together.
We still take our usual walks, Bailie comes along with us on walks that are half an hour long or less. When we take our longer walks, Mom takes Bailie out for her walk after we come back (thus Mom is tired out, but well exercised). The K9 Kamp challenge is to play games or do fun things for an extra thirty minutes a day at least three times a week. Katie is a soccer loving dog, so Mom kicks her the ball and she chases it down. We found out that Bailie likes to chase, so that got those two running around a bit, but then with the rain, playing in the yard was no longer a good option.
If you have a puppy, you know they have so much energy! They sleep hard, but when they are awake, if they aren’t busy with you, they are into trouble. One night, Mom got out the laser pointer and Bailie just loved it! She chased it around for ten minutes before Mom finally quit. We got a video of it in the dark but being dark the quality was poor, so Mom redid a video in the afternoon but the laser was harder for Bailie to track. After playing with the laser pointer, Mom has to take Bailie for a short walk or she will keep looking for that red dot!
The absolute best way to wear out dogs is to let dogs play with dogs, and lately that has been going on a lot in our living room. Let’s just say that Mom is considering selling the furniture and buying a wrestling mat! The K9 Kamp activity for this month wanted Mom to participate as well, but for this portion, she is just the referee with a video camera. We all love to chase and wrestle. We were doing it outside before it got so wet, then we could really run, but we have quite a bit of fun indoors too.
What I’m barking at, is that if you are stuck indoors, there are options. If you have a crazy dog like my sister Bailie, get a laser pointer, if you have more than one dog, let them wrestle a bit, or toss some balls around in your basement. It is all fun and we just enjoy playing. It may not be thirty minutes at a time, but ten here and ten there add up to quite a bit of time in the course of a week!
On a side note, a new blogger friend of ours, Jen, wrote a review of my book Tales of a French Scent Hound, and did a video of her young son’s opinion of the book. Take a look if you are thinking of getting my book for children – they love it!
I am joining in the FitDog Friday blog hop sponsored by SlimDoggy, Peggy’s Pet Place and To Dog With Love Stop by and see what other dogs are doing to stay fit!
Wish we had a puppy, when the weathers really bad and we can’t get out I only have Mom to play with. She plays ball for hours but I like bitey faces too BOL xxooxx
Mollie and Alfie
Having canine siblings can be lots of fun but we do have to always share stuff which is the down side 😉
That is a pawsome big garden to play around in. We too find it difficult as we have ancient Pip to worry about but we manage. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
Our yard is big enough to get some serious speed going in a chase game and we have some nice trees to hide behind too.
Love wntching them play together. Katie seems like she is a puppy again. They all are getting along so well.
Great ideas. You are brave to let the doggies play indoors. I had to put the kibosh on that because mine get to wild. I could see out tv toppling over!
Mom mounted the TV on the wall because of the fear of it falling over. When it gets too wild we have to take a break.
Torrey and I like to play with each other, or with mom on the floor. Wrestling, tugging, that sort of fun stuff.
Sometimes Mom joins in our fun too, but someone had to take the video 😉
Excellent advice Emma. That Bailie is pretty silly chasing that red dot – good idea that our mom found, I think that will wear her out…and she’s a chatty one isn’t she! Thanks for joining the Hop!
You should hear Bailie tracking a scent on a walk…she chatters up a storm…pretty young to be so focused on her nose!
Loved the fun and games. I am totally biased…for me the BEST part was watching Emma and Bailie play together!
Mom thinks it is cool because we are so similar…a breed thing 🙂
It sounds like you have lots of fun together. I’m only allowed to play fairly quiet games that don’t involve me moving much indoors!
Well, it does get a bit rowdy sometimes but since Bailie is still small it isn’t too bad. Katie and I aren’t really allowed to play in the house with each other.
Playtime can be fun just about anywhere!
As long as you have a playmate, you are set!
Great video! Look at all the fun you have over there! I love playing with other dogs too…especially a good tossle/wrestle with a bit of growling added in for show. BOL

Bailie really likes to growl and make noise…one happy wrestling family 🙂
My Ellie-Beans loves the laser pointer. We play a lot of ball too. I’m bad at kicking and throwing, but the dogs don’t care. =D
We never knew the laser pointer would be fun for dogs, thought it was just for the cats, but now we know.
neat video-Niko had to watch with me-hr heard your dogs and wanted to join in!
Good thing we didn’t post a big howling video!
I think we need a puppy. Urgent! How shall I be a fit dog without a puppy? I will write it on my wishlist, hope Santa has a heart and he saw your video!
Well, they are lots of work too, not all fun and Bailie follows me around all the time…she wants to do everything that I do which sometimes makes me mad but overall, we love her.
Hi Y’all!
Great ideas, “Coach”!
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Thanks…come on over for a fun workout. Someone is always ready for action at my house.
Playtime is playtime indoor or outside! Loved watching them play together. The lazer pointer is hilarious! Not just for cats 😉
We always thought it was just for cats until Bailie got into it!
Since all of our dogs are older, they don’t do much romping around indoors, unless I throw a ball. I loved watching you jump around, Emma! I think getting a puppy has really been a great thing for all of you! I’m not quite ready to do that yet though! 🙂
It is definitely not to be taken lightly as everything changes but we are a happy family 🙂
Rita has her puppy cousin Reggie to play with, but so far we have not let them play in the house. Pretty sure it would be chaos with the way they race around! Luckily the weather is mostly good here, so usually no excuse to not play outside!
(Re: your comment on my blog on the CreateSpace expanded distribution… Your comment that most have advised against it got me thinking. Most of the folks I’ve talked to/blog posts I’ve read say it’s a good thing – the more channels the better. Of course, I know in your case you have a lot of photos, which makes it more expensive to produce, so for your book it might not be worth it to go w/ EDC as you’d have to raise the price too much. I went w/ EDC on my first book and don’t regret it – but I hardly sell much in the way of print books. It’s mostly ebook sales for me. If you want to ‘chat’ about any of this stuff further, feel free to email me!)
If Katie and I play inside we get into trouble but Bailie is still small enough that we can play with her but if it gets too wild we have to stop. Maybe it is because of the photos that I was told by most not to do it. My book is selling mostly in print, I thought it would sell a lot in ebook but that hasn’t been the case. It is something that can always be considered. I will just keep going along as is and see what happens. Thanks for you take on it.
Our new puppy is full of energy so we know exactly what you are talking about Emma! Have a great weekend!
Have fun, good luck on the potty training, and get an elk antler to keep pup from chewing your stuff!
Looks like you’ve been having a lot of fun and exercise in spite of the weather! Laser tag is such a good idea!
Bailie absolutely loves it, can’t get enough of it!
Some companies are making a killing off of all these fit dog posts. I hope you’re getting your share of the action.
Well Emma I don’t’ make it easy on Momz cause I won’t play with balls but I do like a good game of tug so that’s our indoor game…lucky for me we can be outdoors year round here so i just keep pushing her to go faster and farther on our morning walks…
With a puppy and a senior dog our walk speed is rather limited these days but we walk a lot so it is alright. Katie enjoys tug too!
OMD! I love, love, love the video of you three playing! Austin and Li’l Girl do not play the way LittleBear and Li’l Girl did, so I really miss seeing dogs play, wrestle, do zoomies, etc. We might have a new addition soon that will hopefully stimulate some play action, but SHHHH, don’t tell anyone!! It’s a secret until it becomes more than a maybe ;).
What a super cute video review of your book! Great that your mom got to network with some mommy bloggers at the blogger conference, because I think your book would be great for kids!
We need to promote it to all age groups, so the mommy bloggers are important! Katie and I had cut back on our chase and wrestle matches but now we are all back at it with Bailie around. She is a lot of work and sometimes a pest, but she is mostly a great family member.
