On our vacation Mom decided that we should go to the beach, but since Fort Myers isn’t real dog friendly, there was only one place we could go and that is where we ended up. Katie did not go along as you were only allowed to bring two dogs and Katie doesn’t like getting wet anyway. I apologize for the photos, Mom forgot about the salt water making a mess of a lens, meaning that some shots are kind of cloudy.
It was fun overall, but also rather embarrassing and a slight nightmare. The beach is located right off a highway, is small, and not fenced, which meant that there was no way Mom would let us off leash. If we bolted we would be on that highway in a second. Needless to say, we were the only on leash dogs, very embarrassing! Then we found out the beach was super small and it was packed with dogs and people. There were at least 30 dogs running around like crazy pups. Mom wanted to take some really nice photos of us, but with dogs everywhere and having to be on leash, we are lucky to have the photos we do! She did do a good job of not getting the other dogs in our photos I must say!
This was Bailie’s first experience with a real beach and salt water. At first she wouldn’t go in the water. It was also high tide, so we had to walk through some big puddles to get to the beach. The first one Mom had to carry her. Once she got her paws into the Gulf of Mexico, though, that was it, she was a beach bum! She really loved it and best of all she did not drink the water! I enjoyed it too having spent time on the North Sea. The water was beautifully clear and super warm. Mom was so sad that we couldn’t just run free. I think it bothered her more than it bothered us.
The setting for the beach was like a tropical island, really pretty.
We also found something interesting floating in the water. Not knowing what it was, we approached it very carefully! That wraps up our experience at the dog beach, fun but not all that we had hoped for.

You too my GF 🙂
Even on leashes to be safe, it looks super fun. I love the beach xxoxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
It would have been so much more fun being able to race around, though.
That beach looks really nice … with all that warm water, blue sky and sunshine 🙂
Here in Sweden we have snow! Brrr, …
*waggy tail*
Love Stina
Here at home in Minnesota we have snow and -25 Celsius…these are warm memories from vacation the end of November.
Ahh, nothing like beautiful, warm east coast beaches. The beaches here in SoCal, while pretty the water is usually too cold for momz to go anywhere near it. Try to stay warm back home! -25….brrr.
I’m hunkered down in my cuddle bed until midday when we will be around zero…then let me out!
You are lucky dogs! Getting to go to the beach! That’s the best!
Just a bummer we had to stay on the leashes.
Um….it won’t let me see the pictures :0S It’s not doing the usually game on showing them unloaded it is just indicating that there aren’t any!! Should I just pretend? BOL
Grrr…I am seeing them and other readers are too. Maybe try later or reboot?
I fink I ave gremlins!
What?!
stopping me from seeing your photos!
You guys are so lucky that you guys got to go to the beach, leash or not.
Bailie really loved it and I liked that the water was so nice and warm, the North Sea was always cold, even in the summer.
Looks like a nice experience and a great time, leashes or no leashes. Sorry Katie couldn’t join you but she probably had a nice rest at home. The pictures are so pretty, it looks like such a nice spot. We haven’t taken Ike to a lake or water yet, I would love to see how he’d react. Kelly is a great swimmer.
It was a fun thing to do and I’m sure Mom will take us again if we go to Florida again.
Looks wonderful, and warm. I bet you wish you were still there.
I don’t mind the winter, but Bailie wants to book a ticket back to Florida. Mom says she has to learn to love cold and snow like Katie and I do.
What a beautiful experience you had! The mom cannot believe how much Bailie has grown. The beaches over here where I am on the east coast of Florida are not dog friendly either, and I have never been to the beach. XOXO Maggie the PBGV
Very sad how restrictive Fort Myers is with dogs. They have a ton of parks with trail and no dog signs at almost everyone. We aren’t used to that since outdoors dogs are almost always allowed around here.
That water looks so nice!
Sherman and Leroy almost always have there leashes on in pictures when we are on adventures, I try to hide them but sometimes it doesn’t work. I’m just terrified that Leroy will bolt.
Sounds like my mom’s thoughts about us…can’t be trusted.
One of my least favorite things about living in Florida was how dog unfriendly it is. Parks, beaches, festivals – no dogs allowed. I love that I can bring my dogs nearly anywhere in Tulsa. Looks like y’all had a great time!
Oh, and you won, BTW.
Whoa!!! I won!!! Finally, arroooo!!! I guess you don’t realize how good you have it until you go elsewhere. Minnesota is restrictive compared to Europe, but Florida is bad. I will bop over to your site soon. Mom needs the computer for work today 🙁
I’m sitting here in Chicago freezing my butt off – I would happy to be leashed if I meant I could relax at the beach right now!
Bailie feels the same way, but I’m enjoying tracking squirrels and wabbit prints in the snow.
wow you did an amazing job getting great photos in those circumstances! We went to Ft.Myers when I was about 8…it’s so pretty there! White beaches!
Pretty, but not very dog friendly.
You were so close to me, and still so far, lol. Looks like a good time. My American Eskimo gets so happy every time we go to the beach and he discovers that he can swim. Too funny! =D
I bet he loves it!
Oh, that looks lovely! Too bad you couldn’t run wild and free, but I’m with your mom – best to be safe! Good girl, Bailie for not drinking the water! We see dogs doing that a lot at the beach – and wonder if they regret it later!
It happens almost immediately. We saw it all the time when we were on the North Sea with vacationing dogs. Katie and I can drink it just fine because we started at a young age. I don’t care much for it, but Katie loves salt water.
So pretty! Us dogs have never been to the beach:( It looks like lots of fun! Good thing your mommy kept you on the leashes! Best to be safe and not sorry!
It was so tempting to let us go but she just couldn’t forgive herself if something happened to us.
I thought the pictures were great. I am with you keeping the puppies safe on lease. Sorry the dog beach was so crowded. My pups have never seen a beach.
The beach was super small and so very crowded. We were used to the mile wide, 7 mile long beach at the North Sea, but it was still fun.
I took my dogs to the beach in NJ a few summers ago, and they weren’t allowed on the beach at all. I think the dog friendly beach was pretty far away, so we just went at 6am when there were only a few people. I got some great photos, but wished we didn’t have to sneak around!
It really is a major bummer. You would think they could have some people/dog beach areas with all the dogs but the whole city was more anti dog.
I think Mom did a fine job with the photos and I can’t believe how big little Bailie is getting!
That is a pretty beach, personally I’m a fan of the Clearwater Beach, something about that fine white sand. 🙂
We like a huge beach, this one was so small and so many people and dogs…that are not in the photos.
wow what beautiful pics!!! Happy Monday!
we are #26 in the blog hop! Come on by 🙂
Thanks guys! I will stop by in a bit.
I’m surprised you were the only on leash dogs if the highway was that close. I’m glad your Mom kept you safe though, even if it meant you didn’t have quite as much fun. It’s great that Bailie did so well, and enjoyed her first experience!
I think all the other people were locals or clueless. Mom is just too afraid to let hounds loose near a road or woodsy area.
The water there looks really nice guys! It has been SO long since I’ve been to the beach… must go back sometime soon!
The water was warm and super clear too.
Ooooh, Emma. I’m so jealous. I hope you kept Bailie from drinking any of that salt water. I learned the hard way….
She didn’t even try. I drink it no problem but I started doing it as a tiny pup so my system is okay with it.
Your Mom did great with those pics, it looks like you had the whole place to yourselves! I’m always on my leash, so I understand your sense of embarrassment – doh! Moms! 🙂
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
The only place we could get “alone” photos was at the very beginning of the beach. Glad to hear that we aren’t the only ones on leash all the time, it is quite embarrassing!
Too bad it wasn’t as nice as you’s hoped, but it still looks nice. Pretty pictures. Pretty beach. I hate places that are close to busy roads. The one pheasant farm we hunted last month, the fields are next to a busy road. When you get farther in the field, it isn’t an issue, just around the edges (where the birds like to go). We did not hunt the edges because of the road.
The problem was that to get away from the road you would need to take a boat onto the water as the beach ran along the road with a small wooded area in between. Mom is sure the wooded area had squirrels and stuff, so it was just too dangerous but it was still fun to dip our paws in the nice Gulf water.
Too fun! The photos came out fantastically. I have yet had a chance to take Maya & Pierson to the coast. The nearest is 13 hours away. 🙁
Only 13 hours away? We had to drive 24 to get to this beach!
You did a great job with the photos with all your restrictions. You guys look like you had a really great time.
Wish we had been able to have more fun, but at least we got our paws wet.
At least you found a spot where you could get in and have a swim. So glad Baily decided she liked it. It’s really had in Florida to find good beaches that allow dogs. The girls have been to the lakes and always have to swim in an area with no humans but they love it anyway. Not sure at their age they would enjoy salt water for the first time and they always get a drink:(
Some dogs just sense it is not good to drink, others drink in one end and it comes out the other just as fast. It is nice to swim in, though.
The water looks lovely! It’s a shame the beach is so close to the road.
With the dog unfriendliness in that area, we were thankful they allowed a tiny slice of beach go to the dogs anywhere but it would have been nicer in a better location.
