I finally decided to join this blog hop (see bottom of post for more info). My policy is only animal photos on my blog and it is my blog written by me, Emma, but to humor other bloggers I’m making a photo exception, and I will also write about my mom. For those of you that don’t know yet, Mom’s name is Joy and she was not born during the Christmas season! If you attend BlogPaws in May and have forgotten what she looks like, no worries, I will be bringing a flat Mom with me, no wait, that is what she did to me last year…grrr… I will actually bring Mom along with me and I will dress her up so you know she is with me. I know everyone will recognize me. As you can see in the photo, I have claimed Mom as my own.
This is super embarrassing, but did you know Mom was originally a cat crazy kind of gal. As a kid, cats were her thing, she didn’t even like dogs if you can imagine that, BUT as she became a teenager she started to like dogs and see how fun we are. This is where she became a dog person and is now a seriously crazy dog lady!
As long as I’m blowing my policy on this post, I may as well post another one of Mom and I in the pool on our vacation in November. You can tell I feel safe since she is by my side 🙂 One thing about her is that everything needs to match, us pets all have to match colorwise, and you can see her swimsuit straps even match the raft…sheesh!
Now to answer some of the questions about her…the rules say at least five, so I will do my best here and I think I covered almost all the questions – my motto, go big or go home!
- What is Mom’s favorite non-animal related book? She isn’t a big reader of books, so really there isn’t one.
- What is Mom’s favorite non-animal related movie? She isn’t a big movie buff either, more of a TV watcher, but it is more for background noise as she can never sit still.
- What is Mom’s favorite non-animal related food? Not sure I get what is meant here, but she is a nut for red licorice.
- What is one thing she has to do every day? She has to run or walk every morning (in any kind of weather) or she will be in a bad mood all day.
- What would she like to be more skilled at? Mom wanted to be a programmer, but she didn’t figure this out until way after college and didn’t want to go back to school, so she tries her best to figure out some html stuff but she would love to be better at it.
- What is her favorite holiday? Thanksgiving is paws down the holiday favorite. Turkey and stuffing is all she needs, maybe some family too.
- What is her favorite meal? Chicken schnitzel with peppercorn gravy and bratkartoffeln.
- What does she like to do in her free time? Mom loves to be outside walking or hiking, if possible with us dogs.
- What one word would people use to describe my mom? She would say boring, but we think others would say thoughtful.
- How are we pets most like Mom? We love the outdoors and lots of cuddling, but GBGV and Kuvasz are real free spirit, independent breeds and Mom is the same breed of human. Rules were made to be broken is our motto. Mom could care less if we heel on a walk, as long as we have fun and we do – especially when we cross a busy road on a red light or blow past a trail closed sign…a pack of rebels led by Mom!
- If her pets could talk (which we can) what one word would we use to describe Mom? Snuggler would be the word for sure.
- Other than blogging what are three things that brings your mom joy? Well her name is Joy, but that doesn’t count. I would say she loves to cook and bake, take photos, and hanging out with us pets.
- What drives her nuts about us pets? Cat bro Bert is out of hand, a real trouble maker and she is tired of us dogs barking at the window all the time for what she feels is no good reason.
- What melts her heart? We GBGV dogs are huggers. Sometimes we just walk up to her, she bends down and we put our paws around her neck, nuzzle our snout in behind her ear and just snuggle for a minute or two. It always makes her day!
- If Mom didn’t have us, what pets would she have? Most likely a couple other rescued cats and another set of GBGV’s. She loves the Kuvasz breed but just has had enough of the never ending fur.
I think that is more than enough about Mom since the blog is really all about me and occasionally my siblings. I don’t know when I will be able to nail Mom down again for an interview, so hope you enjoyed finding out a bit about her.

That was so lovely getting to know your Mom, and she sure is a pretty Gal 🙂 xxxxooxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
Thank you…almost as cute as I am but she doesn’t like the camera much 🙂
I have been waiting for your post Joy (and Emma). I honestly couldn’t remember what you looked like even though I met you once briefly at Alimagnet. I remembered your dogs more! Go figure!
I love that you are so active. Maybe if I read less and watched less movies I would be out every morning walking. I feel like I know Emma well – she is great at expressing herself and she is so darn photogenic, so it’s nice to see who she lives with. 🙂
Hope to run into you again some day. Have a great day and thanks for joining the hop!
Mom often times doesn’t recognize people she knows when they aren’t with their dogs. I guess some humans focus much more on the dogs 🙂 I bet we will run into each other again one of these days!
Awesome post Emma, I’m so glad you decided to bend the rules a bit and blogged about your mom. I met her in DC (with Flat Emma) and I enjoyed the time we spent together. Besides what kind of rebel dogs would you be if you didn’t bend the rules once in a while. 🙂
Our house motto “Rules were made to be broken”. 🙂
It was so wonderful to learn more about your Mom, Emma. I love how active she is, and how much she loves snuggling with all of you. Dogs that give hugs are the best! Our beagle Cricket is the only one that does that. Your Mom and I have in common that we started out as cat lovers and became dog lovers later, it’s great to know I’m not alone in that!
Thank goodness she made the transformation. We still have to put up with the felines in the house, but we knows that us dogs rule!
Finally- been waiting for you to tell us about Mom. You are lucky to have such a wonderful Mom with such a big heart.
Thank you.
I’m so glad you got your mom roped into an interview. Maybe now I will recognize her at blogpaws. She sounds like my kind of person with the exercising, I can’t run anymore but if I don’t walk or hike I’m a grump. And a free spirit, that’s awesome!
Since her last marathon two years ago she has been plagued with foot trouble so running is on and off which makes her frustrated but no matter what she walks and walks. Can’t wait to meet at BlogPaws.
This was ssooooooo much fun!!
🙂
Hello Ems’s mummy!
She says “hi”!
Thank you Emma for telling us about your mom. That was nice. We are both lucky to have wonderful moms, XOXO Maggie the PBGV
A great mom is the absolute best!
It’s nice to get to know a little bit more about your Mom, thanks for sharing!
She is not nearly as cooperative as I am but I got the task accomplished!
Yeah, those double coats are a lot of work – I don’t think I’ve ever met a Kuvasz, but I think I have an idea what you go through 😉
Love the pool picture!
If Mom could spin yarn and knit, our family and everyone we know would have a Katie fur sweater, hat, mittens, socks…so much fur, it is unbelievable!
So glad you joined, Joy. Now I have a face to go with the name! (And a lovely face it is!) Love the matching bathing suit. 🙂 We agree – Thanksgiving is the best! And I’m very jealous of your hugging dogs. My dogs have all just endured being hugged!
It is something in our breed I think since Bailie did it on her own right away too. Today I walked alone with Mom in the morning and had her stop twice to just hug. Hugging is great!
So glad you joined! it has been great getting to know the bloggers! Thanks for sharing! And we have just joined at #91
Awesome…we have a lot to read through still!
Great that you let mom join the Hop Emma – you are always very generous. It was fun to get to know her better. Maybe you should just bring Bailie to Blog Paws and a Flat mom? I think I may request a snuggle when we meet as neither Jack or Maggie are into it and I miss the snuggles my Sally used to give me.
We may get in trouble for over snuggling, but we never tire of it!
So great to get to know you better!!!! Emma, your mom is pawesome!!!! Have a fabulous rest of the week!!!!
Thanks, you too.
Thanks for telling us about your mom Emma! I love dogs who hug, Ike hugs too. He also likes to sit on top of me and put his face about 1/2 inch from my face. I like to walk, but I don’t understand humans like your mom who like to run. That sounds like torture to me. Oh, by the way my friend is named Joy and her sister is named Merry, yup spelled just like that too! They weren’t born around Christmas either.
Oh dear, I bet their parents loved Christmas or something! My sisters and I aren’t keen on jogging either. Katie trained with Mom for a marathon and since then when she sees running clothes, she hides!
Rooooo Emma, pawsome to finally ‘meet’ your human. Boring you say? How could she be boring when she helps you type up your blog and taking such lovely photos *Waggy tail*
She is never bored working for me that I can say!
Thanks for sharing your mom with us Emma! It was nice to learn more about her. I want to start running more…but I really really reallyyyyyyyy hate to run so maybe I’ll just do some Zuma on the Xbox 😀
Everyone has to find an activity they enjoy doing, Mom doesn’t do well with wii or xbox games, or fitness clubs, she likes to be out pounding the pavement.
It’s wonderful getting to know more about you Joy! 🙂 I love red licorice too. I find it so hard to relate with wanting to be active all the time. I love to take the dogs for a walk, but that is about it. I used to be into hiking, but not so much any more. I do relate to wanting to be busy and being unable to sit still. I can sit through a good movie, though.
Mom can’t understand how anyone could stay in bed past 6 am or go all day without going outside, she just needs lots of movement I guess. I’m happy there are three of us dogs because sometimes she says let’s walk and only one dog wants to go so the others get to stay home. She wears us out!
Emma, thanks for sharing your mom with us today. BTW, that picture of you with her is just terrific. If she ever decides to step into the limelight a little, that would be a good picture to feature.
Thank you. The photographer did an awesome job with our photos last year. Now we need to do another smaller set with Bailie included. For now Mom wants me to keep running the blog, but one never knows what the future holds as far as changes.
We have met you Mom, well, my Dad has, and he said she is way cool, just like you Emma!
I know she told me she met your dad the one time she didn’t have flat Emma with her…totally unreliable which is why I have to attend BlogPaws with her in 2014!
It was nice of Emma to let you take over today and we enjoyed reading the Q&A. We laughed about you needing everything to match…lol.
She is funny about that. Us pets have to match too, like we couldn’t possible have an orange Tabby cat since it wouldn’t it the other pets’ colors!
I’m so glad that you decided to join the hop Joy!! I loved learning more about and by this blog and all the fun that have I would never consider you boring!
I think because Mom isn’t real social and is a homebody she thinks she is boring, but at least she is not bored and we don’t find her boring except when she is on the computer too much.
Great learning a bit more about your mom Emma! I had to go look this one up, bratkartoffeln, and it looks yum. Actually anything with bacon is yum.
Are you a low shedding breed or is your sister Katie just an over the top shedder, like a German Shepherd dog (better known as a German Shedder Dog) ?
Love that you are huggers. Vizslas are huggers too, Meadow loves to put her front paws on our laps for hugs whenever she can. It IS really sweet. 🙂
A German Shedder Dog is nothing compared to a Kuzasz…24/7/365 and by the bushel full. It’s nuts, but it is fluffy as least, so it doesn’t stick in things but it blows all over!
So you have tumbleweeds. Fun! 🙂
What about you Emma? Are you a low shedder…or average?
GBGV’s don’t shed. We have our coats stripped, so Katie does he shedding for us as well!
I am in love with your dogs! A GBGV is definitely on my next must-have dog list. I think it’s the Basset part that makes them huggers. My Bentley is a big time hug bug! He will throw those big paws around my neck and snuggle which just turns me into a puppy puddle. I look forward to your blog every single day!
Thank you…Mom loves the GBGV too which is how we ended up with Bailie. Just so you know, after Christmas I will be back to my normal 3-4 times a week post schedule. Daily is only for the Advent Calendar promotion. Bentley is such a cool name. Mom loves boy names but always wants girl pets!
So glad you decided to join this blog hop and tell us about your mom Emma! Was fun to learn more about her and see a picture of her! The picture was just perfect of the two of you! Liked the comment of your mom having to match. That is way cool!
She is one of those overly orderly, overly organized types. Sometimes it makes things rough but we deal with it pretty well 🙂
No shedding at all? That’s pretty cool! 🙂
What a fantastic interview!!! I interviewed Mommy Jenny too. We both loved how you named the blog post “The Joy behind the Dog”…bloody Brilliant I say!! You have a wonderful blog and I think you and Mom Joy make the perfect team. Loved the photos too! (Matching bathing suit & floaty….now THAT’S organized) Love you both!
Pixel & Jenny
Thanks so much! We read your post last week and commented but it is always held for approval, so hope you got it. Hope your mom as a few days off to spend with you over the holidays! Love Emma
Love the photos of you and your mom! It was very nice of you to let her cameo and I’m glad you joined us for the hop!
Thank you. I’m glad I have a few of her with me because usually it is just us pups and not her.
Emma! Your mom’s favorite food isn’t hasenpfeffer? Wait. No. That’s probably your favorite food. Tell you mom she has to try my secret Christmas soup recipe. It has sauerkraut and is amazing.
