On the weekend, Gramma invited us girls and Mom over to her house. Gramma had a turkey that she wanted to cook and thought maybe I could help her out…at least that was my take on the invitation. With the cold weather it was a good time to cook lots of food and eat it.
The mischief started pretty much as soon as we arrived. I took my furry behind right into the living room and grabbed a nice seat. I know the no dogs on furniture rule, but I thought maybe Gramma would bend the rules a bit. No chance…I had to hop down.
Mom and Gramma like to “chit chat”, really boring stuff for us dogs. We don’t get rawhides at home and Gramma still has some at her place so we three decided to munch on some of those while that senseless chatter was going on. Bailie will probably be working on that big one for a few years!
Finally it was my time! Chef Emma was called to the kitchen to assist Gramma with the turkey! It smelled done to me!
Bailie had to have some whiffs too. You can almost see her smiling.
Bailie and I were both hot on that turkey scent…just like a couple of scent hounds!
No worries, Gramma! You can go do what you need to do. Bailie and I will make sure no one steals the bird! (wink, wink)
Then, in the swipe of a paw, the unthinkable happened. We were banished from the area while Mom and Gramma ate that bird! Sure, we got some giblets, but after all my effort to help with the cooking I expected more. When they finished eating and eating, they brought what was left back to the kitchen. Katie and Bailie were still hoping for more. I had seen enough and would not even look at that turkey any more. How could Mom and Gramma not give it all to us?
And that, my friends, is how Saturday went down at Gramma’s house.
I’m joining in the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies.
What you did not get any Turkey??? That is scandalous we say. Niblets on giblets is surely not enough. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
You are so correct. I really thought the turkey would be for us dogs!
Emma, you were right there with your nose in that turkey, surely gramma wouldn’t have noticed one little bite out of his butt?
I saw my mom steal a piece without Gramma knowing, but it was to hot for me.
I think that is just selfish. Maybe they are saving you a piece for later. But just think you got to have those special rawhide bones
It was a good day overall, but we did feel ripped off when it came to the turkey.
Emma your nose was so close to that turkey…and I do believe your eyes were bugging out closer! I do not know what a turkey is here in Florida, but maybe I smelled one in Duluth. I went on a bIG trip on Saturday. I went to Petco and Home Depot with the mom. I got to pick out some toys in Petco (2 bunnies and a duck!) I also got a pink leash and matching collar. Oh! The mom signed me up for something called puppy classes when were in Petco. I don’t know what that is, but I have to be there at 6:30 this evening. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Good luck with puppy school. Bailie did kindergarten and obedience one, she starts obedience two next week. Our favorite place to buy collars is online at http://www.upcountryinc.com/ They have super cute ones!
Thanks for the tip!!
🙂
And it all looked so hopeful for a tasty dinner. Dang it, maybe next time.
If it hadn’t been so hot I would have just taken it to the floor!
That is so not fair! You should have gotten some of that turkey! You guys should go on strike Emma! That would show those humans!
We had such high hopes because it smelled so good!
All my dogs and cats are very helpful when we cook turkey (which only happens once a year on Thanksgiving, since we’re a mostly vegetarian household.) They offer to taste test and are completely puzzled why I never take them up on the offer.
–Woofs (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
You ought to let them taste for you if you prefer vegetarian anyway 😉
Aw!!! How dare the not give every last drop to you!!!,!
But at least you got some giblets though.
Hope you had a great time at grammas! ((Husky hugz))
Frum our pack at love is being owned by a husky
We had a great day and were wiped out when we got back home!
My mouth is watering from here. What sweet torture.
Mom was almost drooling herself and I caught her stealing a piece for herself when Gramma wasn’t looking but she did not give us any 🙁
Classic human, “do as I say, not as I do.”
🙂
You all got ripped off! Maybe there will be some turkey sandwhiches in your future???
We head to the kitchen whenever Mom opens the fridge, but no luck yet. Mom guards that stuff as if she was a dog!
This is too cool for doodle school – you spent time with your Gramma this weekend also! Turkey looked doodle*licious by the way – Nice that you were able to get a taste….
A taste was just simply not enough! At least we did have a super fun day!
Wow, I can’t believe your mom and Gramma didn’t let you have a lot more of that bird! Not fair at all.
A lot of nerve is all I can say!
Fancy not being allowed on the furniture, and then to be shewed out of the kitchen. Then to top it all, you only getting the pickings that the Humans don’t like.. That is so wrong! BOL xxoxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
We were treated like simple dogs…not what we thought should happen 🙂
And here I thought all grandmas were nice old ladies who liked to spoil their grandpups! First you can’t get on the furniture, then she gives you rawhides (don’t get me started), and now no turkey! Oh, the humanity!!
Gramma is super nice to us, and I know about the rawhides, but we very rarely get them, so it is kind of a special thing. Bailie needs something to keep her busy and it works well for that…she will be working on that thing forever. At home we have antlers and Jones stuff…no worries.
I think you ought to tell your mom and Gramma, that Since dogs can’t tolerate Turkey bones you have to have the meat and your peeps can have the bone. Thats for sure.
That is a perfect plan!
Boy, mom and gramma really are mischievous. How could they not share?
They can really be tough!
Wow Emma, that seems totally unfair that you slaved over the hot stove and didn’t get to choose your favorite part of the turkey! There is no way that Bentley could have been that close to a tasty bird without a bite. Did you and Bailie at least get to break the wishbone?
No, too dangerous. That is okay, we had some giblets and Gramma always has Trader Joe dog cookies for us too.
Oh Emma, that was super mean, first to ban you from the furniture and then to ban you from the turkey. How do you manage?
It is a rough life, but I do my best.
Dang, after all that hard work, something ain’t right,
I feel like a furry slave!
Seeing you guys with that turkey and all I can think about now is the scene in A Christmas Story movie where the dogs run through and nab the whole bird from the kitchen! LOL Glad to see you had a nice visit at Gramma’s house!
Love that movie! Sadly, it was too hot to steal 🙁
At first I was going to say, yay…fun at Gramma’s house, but I don’t know, I think you got ripped off! 🙂
I still love going to Gramma’s, but it was a bit disappointing!
No dogs on the sofa? And no bird all to yourself? What a shame! Aren’t grandmothers supposed to spoil you? 😉 Much love, The Scottie Mom.
She does spoil us, but she still has rules and since Mom was there, it was hard to break any rules 😉
That is so unfair. You worked so hard protecting that bird and you aren’t even bird dawgs!
You are right. Our first year we are kind of interested in bird/ducks/geese, but then we realize they are not for us and we stick with critters!
Ya definitely shoulda gotten some of dat burd. And no dogs on da furniture? What is it for den?
Mom has always had the no dogs on furniture rule. She doesn’t like us jumping for one thing since it is hard on our backs. We don’t usually mind since she sits with us on the floor a lot, but sometimes a comfy chair would be nice.
I can almost smell the turkey it looked so good! But I think you were pretty well behaved actually. Love Dolly
Good point. I mean we aren’t perfect but we aren’t really rotten either.
Hey Emma
That is such major mischief! I’m glad you reported them, it was clearly a massive bird too! (Good job getting the photographic evidence!)
Next time you might want to sweep in before the humans act out again, just a thought?! 🙂
I hope you’re having a fun day,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
It was a real bummer we didn’t snag that bird but it was under really tight watch with two human monitors.
That was some mean mischief, tricking you into doing all the work – so they could eat the bird. Well, at least you got some giblets. 🙂
I will think twice before I help with human food again. I best stick to dog stuff so I can eat it.
Oh no, how could they! I hope those giblets were good, though. At least you got something. Next time you need to make them do all the cooking (they won’t notice you on the furniture if they are busy!)
You bring up a good point. They were both in the kitchen with that bird non stop. I could easily have lounged on the couch with no one knowing!
Oh the rawhides look yummy as well as that turkey. Looks like a great time at gmas
We love to visit her. She has lots of squirrels and chipmunks outside her windows too.
