Did you know that in the US, 53% of dogs and 55% of cats are now overweight or obese? Over the last five years the incidence of overweight or obese dogs has increased by almost 40% in the US, and for the same time period cats had an astonishing 90% increase! If you know me at all, you know we are big on health and fitness at our house. Seeing overweight dogs and overweight cats makes us so very sad as we know they are not able to experience life to the fullest in their condition. Many pet parents don’t even realize their dogs and cats are overweight!
Having extra weight will not really make our fur feel tight, just as human skin does not get tight when humans gain weight, but the weight does keep us from being happy and healthy, and it shortens our lives. It is the job of the pet parent to keep pets at a good weight because dogs and cats can’t do that for themselves! Getting a pet on a diet and then following through so they actually lose weight is no easy task which is why I’m howling about Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution food products. There is no magic weight loss pill, but this new food from Hill’s® is the next best thing! For dog weight loss and cat weight loss, this food creates a whole new lean lifestyle!
I understand that many pet parents are stuck, can’t figure out how to get their pet to lose weight. Diets for cats tend to be more difficult than diets for dogs. The video One Big Kitty shows how owners struggle with diets for their pets and how Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution food can help and make the process much easier for human and pet.
Let’s dig into the dirt of how Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution food works. The nutrition in this food actually activates the metabolism to burn fat and regulate appetite. Pet parents change what they feed, not how they feed. Dogs and cats will feel full, yet still lose weight. Within just sixty days of starting your pet on Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution you will see a leaner and much more playful pet. 314 pet parents participated in a study feeding this food. After two months of feeding (including non precise portion measurement) 88% of pets lost weight. 8 out of 10 of the pet parents would recommend the Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution to others with an overweight pet.
The Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution package provides dry food, wet food, and treats to appeal to every pet’s palate and needs. Overweight dogs and cats won’t feel hungry, making it easier for pet parents to stick to the plan! This is not a food for just the time of the diet, but a food for life. Pet parents work with their veterinarian to determine the correct feeding amounts. Once the dog or cat has reached the desired weight, the veterinarian will determine the amount to feed to maintain the new healthy weight.
I’m thrilled to offer the opportunity to try Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution for free! Emma it’s such a shame pet owners let their animals get so over weight. We see lloads here in the UK xxxoxxxx
Mollie and Alfie
In the UK, it must be that doggy fish and chips diet??? I know it is sad and us poor pets are not at fault but suffer because of it.

Ditto Mollie. We have this huge lab on the park that can hardly walk. It is so sad to see. Have a terrific Tuesday and stay fit we say.
Best wishes Molly
It is just awful. Mom would be embarrassed to have a pet like that as it makes the human look so irresponsible!
Sparkle the PBGV says
Can I enter to win this for the mom? I am so svelte and so is Panda. My insistent play is getting Lyla really active. I have also gotten Hollee more active. It’s a tough life having to work so hard at my almost 4 month age. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
I think it only works on pets. Glad you are motivating the family to move and exercise. Maybe you can engage your mom in a game of chase?
Sparkle the PBGV says
Just did that!!! She was trying to put my new collar with my/our phone numbers embroidered onto it. I was not in the mood to get dressed!
Oh dear…you shouldn’t run around naked! I am only naked at night when we go to bed or sometimes on my photo jobs 😉

We’ve picked up a few extra pounds over this incredibly long winter, but our Doodle Doc said not to worry, once the weather breaks, and we’re able to spend more time outdoors our trim figures should return!
We are active year round, but actually more in the winter. None of us are big fans of the summer heat, but we are out early paw padding pavement on those days.

It’s always a lot easier to put on weight than lose it, but it’s worth the effort to get fit. Have to get that dog-beach-body ready for the summer!
Who ever designed the body made some silly mistakes like the easy to gain, so hard to lose thing…why? I started running again with Mom, so I will look good in my bikini if summer comes around 🙂

Sometimes losing weight can be such a struggle for humans and pets alike. This food sounds like it could really help some dogs and cats out, and what a great giveaway. I’m happy that we don’t need it, but it’s great to know it’s out there for those that do.
You might have needed it, but with Fitness Trainer Luke on site, everyone is in tip top form! The worst part about a pet on a diet is when they are feeling hungry which is why this sounds so wonderful, they will feel full.
Dogs N Pawz says
Great post Emma! We know first hand how easy it is to gain that weight and then how hard it is to get it off!
We knock back so many miles on our paws so we can eat lots of snacks and stuff but stay fit and trim. Not easy, but it is our lifestyle.
Many thanks for a great post, Emma. I’m always sad when I see pets who are overweight. And I can’t understand their owners. I’m sometimes on the limit too, but we immediately try to solve the problem. Have a wonderful tuesday!
You have to nip it in the bud before it spirals out of control. Sometimes Mom says one of us looks like we might have an extra pound…that means more walking, less snacking. It is all calories in, calories out really.
My mom always says calories are those bugs what lurk in her wardrobe and they stitch down all her clothes over night…. but I have some doubts :o)

Thank you 🙂
That is so bad , but this foods look really promessing 🙂
We are excited about this food for pets that need to lose some poundage. It sounds so simple and not really like a diet.
My mom checks my weight occasionally. Have a great day.
We are on the scale at the vet 2-4 times a year. We are maintaining within a pound or two all the time, so that is good.

Another great post Emma! We want to try that food!
If you need to lose weight it sounds so ideal! Sign up if you want to try it…6 pack abs for the summmer, Bentley 🙂 I started running again with Mom this morning for my bikini figure.
It is so sad to know that they are so many over weight pets. Love learning more about Hills Metabolic and it works. Hope to hear many successful weight loss stories. Golden Woofs
It sounds like such a great solution…almost wish we were overweight so we could try it out!
Hi Emma, it’s me Dash, the doodle from Colorado. We have walked at least 90 minutes every day since Saturday! I am looooving it! Today, we walked twice and on the second walk I had to sit down!! I did! (ever since I was a puppy, I’ve done that on long walks.) I told mom, “wait a second, I’ll be ready to go again in a second.” Lilly pretended she was annoyed, but she caught her breath too. Thanks for your blog! You’ve brightened our days. My mom used to walk us like this, but she got out of the habit somehow. We’re so glad to have back our old, new habits. By the way, Lilly and I are both sleeping all night!! We’re zonked! Keep up the great work Emma!
That is awesome. Once you have it as a habit again it will be hard to stop doing it which is a good thing. I used to try to take a break too, but “sarge” doesn’t stand for it, so no go on that for me 🙂 I just started running with Mom again this week. I’m exhausted, but it is fun, just a couple times a week but I think I will keep doing it. Enjoy the great outdoors!

Great post. Nellie tried that but it was only a small bag. She ate it up well but then we went back to her prescription diet purina OM.
Why? Did the Hills not work so well or you just prefer the Purina?
Looks like an interesting food to help pets loose weight. We don’t have any pets with the issue in our house at the moment. I hope it will help some other doggie or kitty.
We don’t need it at our house either but hopefully some dogs and cats that are a bit heavy will read this and give it a try.
Ann "Paws" Staub says
Good luck to those who enter your giveaway Emma! Hopefully you can help get some pets on the right track to a healthier lifestyle and a good weight.
My vet is trying to promote it as well, so we shall see, but so far no one has signed up.
Nice post. We haven’t had any sign up yet either. I think since we are at the tail end of the postings, by now our readers have already seen this information and have signed up if they were going to do so.
Kind of frustrating. I got our vet involved last week too, but no sign ups.
