One of the things I’m happy to report is the grass is back in our yard. It is not pretty, awfully wet, but we are happy to have it back and it means fun! Bailie and I have been having fun racing and chasing, sniffing and rolling around on it. All those great smells are really coming to the surface! It is Bailie’s first spring, I don’t think she really remembers much about the yard before it was covered in the white stuff.
Did you see Sugar’s post on PrideBites toys last week? Mom decided Bailie needed some fun new toys. The ones she has are getting worn out and a bit boring. We decided on Sugar’s recommendation to order a PrideBites toy, but not a special made one. Being spring with hunting on our GBGV minds, she ordered a squirrel. We got the toy within a few days of ordering it.
I’m not much for toys, so it is really just for Bailie. She loved it, but lately she has been in a destructive mood and shortly after she started playing with it, she chewed a hole in the bottom of his feet. Mom took it to the stuffy hospital immediately and was able to surgically repair it. We just have to keep an eye on her now when she plays with it. They have super fun stuff. Stop by their site and take a peek.
Tuesday, Bailie, Mom, and I all got mail from the National Association of Canine Scent WorkΒ (NACSW). Mom got her membership card and Bailie and I each got our own score card, how fun will that be to fill out! These little books are real important and we need to make sure we don’t ever lose them. We have to keep track of all our tests and competitions in them. Hopefully we will each get a pass for Birch next month as our first entry! We finish nose work 2 tonight and start class 3, vehicle searches and exteriors, this will be even more fun!
For fun back in February Mom and I were at the Twin Cities Pet Expo. Mom bought PetzLife for us pups to try. We decided on the Oral Care Gel with Wild Salmon Oil which is pretty tasty! We brush out teeth every night before bed, but there are a few spots that are hard to get, so why not see how this gel works. We’ve been using it for six weeks now. We started using it daily and now use it every other day. We did notice a difference in our teeth. Some of that stuff that hadn’t come off with brushing is now gone. We have decided to keep using this gel along with our daily brushing. If you don’t brush your teeth, I can’t say if it would work or not, but for us it is a great addition to our brushing routine.
The last piece of news I have is Bailie has started attending day care one or two half days a week. Socialization with dogs is so hard in the US. Dogs are not allowed anywhere, we are always on leash and she is starting to learn not to like other dogs. We could go to the dog park, but the one we like is a half hour drive and you are only allowed two dogs. So, Mom found a great day care about seven minutes from home, three minutes from her office. Bailie goes there when Mom is at the office. They have a webcam, so Mom can keep an eye on her too. The first day they called her a wall flower as she just sat in the corner the entire time. Now she is starting to have some fun socializing and moving around with the other dogs. It is both indoor and outdoor, lots of dogs and fun stuff to do.
It is a pretty fancy place, Mom is really happy with it, but they sure have some odd dogs out front! Mom is thrilled that Bailie runs right into the place, but she is also sad that Bailie doesn’t mind being left there…probably a good thing for both of them learning to be apart!
At night, the little one is dead dog tuckered out. The first night she went up to bed all by herself extra early because she was so tired out. Mom couldn’t find her and then found her in bed.
I had a few loose ends to tie up again which made this the perfect post for the Barks and Bytes Blog Hop hosted by 2 Brown Dawgs and Heart Like a Dog! Join up and share in the fun, or just visit a few new blogs!
The stuffie hospital is always busy when there’s a puppy in the house π
She was so good until just recently…now she is totally into shred and destroy. We are hoping it is just a phase!
Thanks so much for joining the hop! That toy would be toast around here in no time. Freighter is still a chewer and he is 2 years old! Nothing like a busy day to tire a pup out. Between busy weekends and training our dogs use every chance they can get to snooze during down time. That day care looks like a really nice one. I like that they have outdoor space. Our lawn is just starting to come back although the other day when I was out there, it seemed more like a sponge than a yard…lol. Best of luck with Nose Work testing!
Katie and I were never really chewers, and Bailie just started this destructive phase. She is really busy and rather worn out, but she still likes to sit and rip apart toys, not good.
We agree the toy would be shredded here in no time. Day care looks great and it will pay off with socialisation. Glad your garden is useable again. Happy days. Have a tremendous Thursday.
Best wishes Molly
We were surprised the toy got a bite so quickly, but with Bailie one never knows. Day care is working well for Bailie, it will help her out we think.
Does Emma and Katie miss Bailie when she is away?
I have some jealousy issues because she leaves and comes back with Mom, so I feel like I am missing out on something. As far as missing her, not really. I am busy with my neighborhood watch in the front window with some napping and Katie is always content to just hang out. In some ways it is peaceful without the wild sister around for a few hours but we are really happy when she is back.
Congrats on the nose work certificate! Little Bailie is such a cutie. I remember my dog Maxine used to do that too. She’d come to the doorway of the living room , look at us like she was saying good night and then go up to bed..so funny.
Last night she fell asleep on the floor at obedience school while Mom was chatting with the teacher about another class. She couldn’t wait to get up to bed when they got home. It’s good for her.
that’s a lot of news going on!!! I have thought about Doggy Day Care for Dakota but for right now, that is a luxury that isn’t in our budget.
It is expensive. Mom looked into it for Katie and I when we first moved back from Germany but it was too pricey. It is still expensive but for one half day a week it is $18 and there is a buy nine get the tenth for free, so that is doable without sacrificing our snack fun π
you have your own Bailie-squirrel, wow that’s great! I wish we all would live closer so we could meet each other or we could found our own “Blogville-Dogpark” :o)
I know, so many friends that will never meet. I’m looking forward to meeting some friends, dog and human, at BlogPaws next month.
You have been very busy! We LOVE your squirrel!!!
He is really cute and his feet are looking okay too after the emergency surgery.
The day care sounds like a good idea. When we are here in Utah, there is NO WHERE to take the dogs. Not even a dog park and I hate it. Torrey loves to run and play and make friends in a dog park, so she is missing all that right now.
It is fun for just a half day a week. That along with us at home and seeing other dogs at her classes it should be a well rounded plan.
Great idea with the daycare! Cute squirrel toy to! Although I think my huskies would tear it to pieces but they would have a lot of fun doing so!!!!
Our grass is just finally starting to show it’s face now! Although the weather peeps are saying more snow next week?!!!! Sheesh!!!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We are cooling down and getting rain, but no snow in the seven day forecast, so hopefully spring will continue!
First, I thank you for supporting the blog hop!
Second I am super jealous of the scent work class you have coming up. Vehicle search? It sounds like a ball to me!! I bet Delilah would love that.
Sampson and Delilah use to go to daycare, but as they got older they played less and spent much of their day snoozing in a crate. I was glad they had the companionship but it makes no sense to me to pay for them to sleep. They can do that at home. BOL
I’m glad though that Bailie is enjoying it, I know it’s hard for mom, but it’s so super good for Bailie.
The US just makes the perfect environment for dogs to be reactive and Mom wants to prevent that. Bailie gets plenty of fun and exercise at home but this half day one day a week is good for her social skills. It won’t be forever but for a while at least.
We are excited for the vehicle searches, something new and different again. Send Delilah to stay with us for six weeks and she can go to class with us!
When I saw some of those snow drifts I wasn’t sure you guys would ever see grass again – glad spring is showing up in MN. As you mentioned, not all socialization is created equal, a daycare seems like the perfect, supervised place for Bailie to meet other pups. Cool that you can check in on her as well.
That snow went fast last weekend with the 60’s and sunshine. We still have some in the shady areas but it won’t last long!
My sister Lilly hated day care… when she went she just sat at the gate waiting for the humans. I thought that was strange because I loved day care, I was playing all day! Sometimes I fell asleep in the car on the way home. Good post, Emma! Happy Spring days! your doodle friend, Dash
Bailie is liking it more each time now, I know she will get wild eventually.
You’ve had a lot of great things going on this spring, Emma! It looks like it is all wearing Bailie out, which is just what is needed for a young girl like her.
We are starting to get our grass back now too. There’s still a lot of snow around in the woods, etc., but we feel more hopeful it will all be gone soon.
I might try the oral care gel with the girls who don’t brush, and see if it helps at all.
We love the taste and it got some of the spots we didn’t get brushing.
Lots of fun stuff happening with you guys! Thank goodness the weather has finally warmed up. Since I’m from the Minneapolis area, I know what that’s like!
That Pet Expo looked like a lot of fun, and I’m sure Bailie loves her doggy daycare!
This winter was awesome, but a bit long so we are happy for some spring weather!
WOW, hat a blog! I am pretty destructive on toys, and have some are in the stuffy hospital awaiting surgery. I even ruin the toys labeled “tough.” Mom has ordered me bones and chews for my teething problems – no way will I let her near my mouth right now as I am in pain! Good job, Emma, on this post, and Bailie have fun scenting and socializing. xOXO Sparkle the teething PBGV
The antlers were great for Bailie. She never destroyed anything until she was nine months old and done with teething. Go figure!
Y’all never fail to amaze us!!!
π
I love those PrideBite toys and the squirrel looks pawesome! I sure hope it will not need to visit the stuffy hospital any more. That Bailie…BOL. I cannot wait to hear all about the fun things you record in your nose work book. That should be pretty cool. Good luck!
*Cairn cuddles*

It will be fun to fill our books π That Bailie is a project these days…Mom says she is like a teenager trying all of our patience, but we still love her!
That squirrel looks awesome! I’ll have to check out PrideBites! Another GREAT way for dogs to socialize is taking hikes and walking w/ other dogs. Look on meetup to see if there’s a group near you, or start one yourself!
It is just hard to find people to hike with as they cancel depending on the weather, they have mini humans that can’t be left alone or have activities. In Germany we had a ton of friends we hiked around with, but here it is hard. Minnesota is also not that “dog” compared to other places we find. Thanks for the suggestion!
Bailie will have fun smelling the smells of spring! We live in a very unfriendly dog city. Dogs aren’t allowed anywhere and we don’t have a dog park. : ( I love your daycare!
We may go to our favorite dog park today, we will see if we have time for it. This dog unfriendliness is really a sad thing!
That squirrel toy is so cute! And your new daycare looks really nice too. Hope you make some nice new friends there Bailie!
She is getting more adjusted and not as shy. She is used to Katie and I being with her, so it is good for her to do a few things on her own.
You gals are busy bee’s this spring, so glad your grass is back you look like you are enjoying a nice game of chase. Have a great weekend.
We are wearing Mom out with all our activities and stuff not to mention her stuff, but we enjoy it all.
That’s one fancy looking doggy daycare. How lucky!
It is a cool place for a cool dog! Mom heard about it when we first moved back from Germany, but it was to expensive for Katie and I all day. One or two half days for one dog isn’t bad.
Look at Bailie having some special moments at daycare. And it’s a really nice looking daycare at that too! Do you get to go at all Emma?
No, I’m not a good day care candidate. I have a small circle of friends I hang out with, but I am more of a people dog, and all those dogs would probably make me mad sniffing around on me. Katie would have loved it when she was younger. It is a really nice place, though.
Love that last picture! Bailie looks tuckered out!
She is pretty worn out after day care and then school at night. It is a good thing.
Boy! Y’all have been busy girls. All sounds like fun though! Enjoy the sun!!
We had a couple great spring days, now it is colder again with rain/snow mix forecast for most of the week, but spring will break through again.
Great stories! I don’t think any of my dogs have ever seen snow. I hope to take them up north one winter, so they can experience it. Kind of the same for Bailey, but the opposite, if that makes sense. She’s so used to the ground being cold and white it must be pawesome to see the green stuff! =D
All the smells are coming out, so we have nasal overload right now!
the daycare looks cool… and over here, it is a great way for the dog to meet other dogs too π
Bailie seems to be getting more comfortable with it, but she still isn’t getting wild and crazy with the other dogs. Maybe in time.
Oh that I understand. Donna only has one best friend at the daycare we sometimes send her to… otherwise she always seem to be milling around not doing anything much on their live feed. Hope Bailie gets more friends than we have over here! π
She is mostly wandering aimlessly, but she has built up her confidence already which is important.
Yay! Totally with you on that!! π
