Bailie and I have these long floppys which are actually a big part of GBGV earodynamics. You may be familiar with aerodynamics which we have as well, but the earodynamics are specific to real long eared breeds. In the photo above, you can see our aerodynamics. We both have the exact same position for gaining speed with our little behinds up a bit. Mom says we look like racing wabbits which I kind of find insulting! Bailie and I spend lots of time in our yard these days playing chase and wrestle. Today I will show you some of our earodynamic positions.
Ears up on both racers. This is a form of braking. The drag caused by the standing ears slows us down.
To gain speed, our floppys need to be straight back for the fastest earodynamics available. This can also cause pull on the facial area creating a goofy face as seen in Bailie.
In this scene, my ears are back as I gain speed on the outside of the turn. Bailie’s ears are coming up to slow her down in the inside track.
Here we are both tossing our floppys back as we are about to jump at each other and we don’t want those ears to get in the way!
Sometimes in a tight corner the ears flop up into the face, not good. Once again, Bailie’s ears are braking her speed in the curve.
You know how those gorgeous blonde models toss their hair around? In this photo, we are tossing our ears in the same fashion. Somehow it doesn’t seem to have the same type of sex appeal as human blonde tossing her hair.
Finally we have form and ears in a combination maneuver. My behind is up in acceleration form, ears are tucked away. Bailie is leaping towards me with her ears straight up to slow the eventual impact.
Ears are really free spirits, unlike tails which can be steered. Our ears get into all kinds of mischief we have no control of, but we love our long floppys. Do you have mischievous ears? ***Disclaimer: This is all based on my own knowledge. Earodynamics are pretty secretive in the long ear community and further information will not be found except under the disguise of some online music company that wishes it had long floppys. You can either believe me or not – it is Monday Mischief after all.
I love mischief, so I’m joining in the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies.
The brown dawgs are happy that they don’t have floppy ears to get in their way….although yours are very cute.
They usually are helpful, but they can get in the way.
I believe everything you said Emma. It makes so much sense. The only bad thing about floppy ears is when you take a drink of water they end up in the water bowl! Great pictures. Seems like everyone was having so much fun!
Mom always knows when we were at the water bowl. We kind of mop the floor up with those wet ears too.
Looks like you guys have the most fun!!
We do have a lot of fun 🙂
Fabulous floppies we say. Great ear action dudes. I get all my foodables and water on mine LOL. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
They are great for collecting items except those sticky things, they hurt!
Awesome and really fun post. Gman has wonky ears when running, love them.
Amazing all the acrobatics ears can do!
You both have awesome ears!
I bet yours are soft and fuzzy?
Harley has that wabbit look sometimes too Emma, he’s insulted when I tell him that 🙂 When he gets excited he has a tendency to hop also (sshhhh, don’t let him know I said that!)
Mom says we are like cats because we pounce like cats…I prefer to think cats are like us.
Hey Emma, Jack here. I’m going to disagree about the sex appeal. Bailie is a little too young for me, but you look mighty fine tossing those ears around 😉
Oh my! Bailie is real into boys right now, I don’t have time for that romance stuff. I like to look cute!
BOL!!!! You pups are running full tilt!!! What great action shots!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Let’s just say we really wear each other out.
Eko nearly takes off flying with ears on a windy day, I imagine you two could use those ears to power a sailboat her in Chicago.
Great idea! Maybe we should get a small sailboat?
Love it. “Earodynamics” – I think you’ve coined a new term. 🙂
I thought so but when I googled it, it gave me something to do with music. Who cares, I will call it my term.
The pictures are wonderful! Your next book could be on earodynamics! My sister and I also have floppy ears. Not as long as yours but they flop around too. Sometimes I help my sister by cleaning her ears. Makes mom crazy but it seems to be something we do … our lab cousins do it too and we are labradoodles so… Have a great day Emma, your doodle friend, Dash.
Mom is the only one interested in cleaning ears around here. Neither of us like the process, but it is necessary.
Haha! Awesome photos! Alma’s ears bounce around a little when she runs, but she’s got nothing on you guys!
The long floppys really move sometimes.
You guys look like you are having a blast! Love the photos.
We are. We love to play chase and wrestle, especially in the evening.
I have ears just like yours! Now I totally understand their purpose 😉 Great action pictures of you two. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Get those ears flopping, it is never to early to start!
Y’all are sure flying!!!
We have lots of speed. Wonder if we could race around the hotel lobby at BlogPaws? Mom seems to think not.
Coming from a long-eared breed I can atest to all of this! Only problem my ear length is the least Doxie thing about me! Mom knows how hard it is to get all those action shots so we are very impressed. Love this! Love Dolly
My ears are much longer than Bailie’s, but hers fly just as well.
You guys have some serious ear moves!
Those ears have lives of their own!
You both have some amazing earodynamics for sure! My ears don’t do any of that…I don’t think…maybe they do some. Great action shots!
Happy Monday!
Oz
Thanks. We love our long floppys!
Tossing your ears IS attractive. To other dogs, that is. And what can be better than doggy love?
Except kitty love, that is.
We have some kitty love but not sure how much they like our ears. They do like hanging out with us sometimes.
You are both such pretty dogs! I love those floppy ears!
Thank you! Mom loves our ears too.
The Newfs have big ears but not they are not nearly as adorable and floppy as yours!
That is because they are so big, it makes their ears look smaller 😉
Fascinating Emma, I never realized how long your ears really were, I think they are amazing.
As a puppy I used to trip over them all the time. They are that length when we are born, so I had to grow into mine!
I love those floppy ears, but I did not know about earodynamics. I asked Cricket about it, she wasn’t willing to elaborate much, but she did say I should believe you.
Not many humans understand or know about earodynamics which is why I thought I should write a bit about it along with providing examples. Cricket knows about it for sure!
Loving those floppy earred pups! Your pictures of their playing are fantastic!
Thank you! Our ears have really been flying lately!
Wow you guys look so super fast! I don’t think I’ve heard of earodynamics before – thanks for the lesson 😉
We really get our speed up and sometimes trip and roll too. It is a blast!
Emma, I LOVE your long ears and agree with everything you said except for one thing…I think you tossing your ears is waaay sexy! Your Basset, Bentley
I was hoping you would like that ear flip thing, Bentley! I bet if you get your speed up, you have some serious earodynamics too.
Your ears remind me of my basset pals’!
My ears are about as long, just more fur 🙂
Hey Emma
Thanks for such good information, I had no idea it was all so technical! 🙂 I’ve got big floppy’s too, but it’s hard to see them cos of all my fur, some kids even ask if I have any ears and Mum has to pull them out to show them!
Btw, I think the ear flick really is very cute, it works on me! Can I join your game of floppy ear chase? Does Bailie always get to play the chaser? 🙂
Have fun
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
Our floppys really stand out since we don’t have fur like you. Bailie and I switch off being chased and being the chaser. It is so much fun! We would love it if you would join us. Katie sometimes tries but she doesn’t have the speed or energy anymore.
Just love seeing you have super fun. We saw one of you ( breed ) at the weekend 🙂 We told them about you. We have missed you but we are back now xxxoxxx
Mollie and Alfie
You guys have been rather scarce I must say! Hope the GBGV you saw was nice to you 😉
I love the way long doggy ears look when they’re blowin’ in the wind, or flopping during a game of chase. Great pix!
–Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
Mom just loves our floppys.
We thinks floppy ears might be a fun thing! Yours are very sexy!
I sure hope I don’t get labeled as a doggy sex symbol 😉
Their ears are so cute! Love the photos! My dog’s ears are floppy and cute, but nowhere near as floppy as Emma and Bailie’s ears!
Thank you. Katie has small floppy ears, but the long ones are so much more fun!
MOWZERS, we kittehs stand amazed. Seriouslies. No ear flappin’ over here!
If you kitties have floppy ears like mine, I would be scared.
Running is what Donna does well too! 😀 You guys look limber 😉 Good practice for the zombie apocalypse.
Chase and wrestle is the specialty around this house.
Wrestle involves drool sometimes XD
Those are some adorable ears! We don’t have any long floppy ears over here, but Ellie’s turn inside-out all the time, so we have to manually reset them to factory position. XD
LOL! Good one!
