Every pet parent wants to show their pet love, but unfortunately, humans often show love with too much food. How can you show your pet love and achieve weight loss? Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution is a great place to start redefining the way you show your pet love with food! Overweight dogs and cats will be able to eat enough at mealtime to feel full, have some snacks, and still lose weight!
One thing many pet parents don’t realize is the true size of their pet. If you have a 10 lb pet and you, the human, weighs 100 lbs, your pet is only 1/10 of your size. Start by imagining all your food divided by ten to see how small the similar portion would be for your pet. Weight loss for dogs and cats has to start with the pet parent understanding what their overweight dog or cat needs.
Pet foods vary in quality. The high value petfoods such as Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution are processed by the pet better, meaning that you won’t need to feed nearly as much as a low value food stuffed with fillers. Consider what size bowl your pet is using in relation to the amount of food. Humans have a hard time finding a small amount of food in a large bowl is enough. Switch to a smaller bowl to trick yourself into seeing the food as a full meal. This is my meal portion in three different sized bowls.
Turn your food/love into a lottery situation. Show your pet love by going for a walk, or playing a game. When you are finished, alternate loving up your pet with extra cuddles with giving him a Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution treat. Exercise will help with dog weight loss and cat weight loss, as well as making the pet much happier.
Diets are never fun and diets for dogs and cats seem even more awful, but Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution makes weight loss for dogs and cats so easy and painless for the pet and the pet parent.

Great post. So true that people equal food with love. A habit that needs to be changed great tips to help do that.
Thank you 🙂
We agree food is not love and that is where many pet owners run into trouble with weight issues for their pets. Have a tremendous Thursday,
Best wishes Molly.
It isn’t love, but food sure love my belly, LOL!
Great post! We all need to be more careful with our pets and not feed them lots of treats and food because we think that is showing them we love them. They feel much better when they aren’t overweight!
Ash is awesome proof of that! You guys have done an awesome job bringing a dog back to the good life!
I have seen some really overweight dogs in my area. It’s hard to bite my tongue and not scream something at their owners. LOL
Most of the dogs around here are in pretty fair shape, but there are two Labs behind us that are fat, spend most of their time in a kennel outside all year. I get so mad. I have called animal control anonymously a few times because I can’t stand seeing them bake in the kennel all day in the hot sun but all I got was they put a fence around the kennel so I can’t see it anymore. So very sad. I think he takes them hunting sometimes but that is their life.
Great post! Super informative! There is one dog in my area who is overweight to the extreme! They must feed him TONS because they are always out walking and exercising. But he looks like a stuffed sausage or something!!! I hope they are doing something to resolve the issue, and I “hope” they realize how unsafe and unhealthy it is!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Man, he must really be eating if he gets so much exercise and is so heavy. That is really sad!
Food is love but only so much! Love Dolly
I love food and food loves me, but I have to workout a lot so I can eat what I want and keep my girlish GBGV figure 😉
My vet mentioned they’ve had some great success with their patients on the Hill’s Metabolic diet. Great post!
Your pals,
Diane and Rocco
Rats, I was just at the vet this morning and didn’t think to ask. We met a PBGV there and it turns out the owner is a breeder Mom knows on FB, such a small world, we forgot about everything else!
It was my first thought too, to reduce Easy’s weight-problem with Hill’s, but he dislikes it since he was a puppy. Our vet suggested Hills, we tried it, but Easy said: NAW! I try it from time to time when I get a sample of Hills Food, but Easy is as stubborn as a Missouri Mule.
I would suggest then that you do switch as if Easy stops eating he will lose weight for sure. My cats are picky like that but Mom makes them eat the food. She says they will eat when they are hungry enough and within a few days they start chowing down 😉 Life at my house is tough, lots of working out and healthy eating.
Lots of ways to show LOVE to your pet. Golden Woofs
I love snacks and food, but nothing beats snuggling with Mom.
Wonderful post Emma! We are working on all of our weight issues, human & dogs!
Uh oh, not sure if Hills Metabolic is approved for human consumption 😉 Come stay with us for a few weeks and pounds will disappear…it is a true boot camp here living with Mom.
That is so true about needing less without all that filler junk!
Not only is filler unnecessary and not good for you…the humans have to scoop a ton more poop!
Measuring is so important, I’m glad you demonstrated it Emma. 2nd biggest contributor to obesity. (after table scraps)
I think especially people they feed cheap food and switch to quality food have a hard time accepting their pet is full with just one cup when they used to have like six cups. Ours is always measured and we don’t get much but we maintain our exact weight, so it must be enough.
That is great advice, Emma. We actually do use different size bowls for each dog, and I think it does help. Cricket gets far less than the other dogs since she’s so much smaller, and I think if we put her food in a large dish we would feel like we were depriving her.
I’m glad our dogs enjoy being active too, because it makes it easier to show our love by playing with them, not just by giving them treats.
Katie has the big bowl, Bailie and I have medium size bowls. It is just a visual issue for humans. We really don’t get much food but we hold our weight, so it is enough. Exercising is the best fun and best way to stay fit.
Loved your idea of showing the food in different bowls. I make sure to measure my cats’ food or I would definitely overfeed.
Thank you, it does make a big difference.
I love the idea of using a smaller bowl to make a pet’s meal seem larger, gonna have to try that with Niles. 🙂 We are currently on this diet with Vega and she seems to be doing well so far. We are hoping she’ll slim down soon!
We hope the diet works for you too. I think humans have a hard time judging dog/bowl/portion size. If you get the bowl to fit the portion size it looks better no matter what the size of the pet.
Great post. It can be hard to help pets loose weight. I am glad there is a food to help. 🙂
This food really seems to be awesome and makes it easier for people to help their pets.
