In the summer, our favorite evening activity is a good game of backyard chase and wrestle. Katie and I used to play, but now that she has slowed down, Bailie and I enjoy it. Our backyard isn’t huge, but it is fenced and big enough for us to get some serious speed going. We always start slow, kind of planning our game strategy for the evening.
Most of the time I am doing the chasing.
We run in figure eights, giant circles, all kinds of formations.
Sometimes Bailie resembles a kangaroo!
Looks like someone is airborne! “Jump higher, Bailie” I barked!
We are off to the other side of the yard!
And…the wrestling begins…kind of like a dance…
Bailie is calling out to Mom for help I think!
We are getting tired out. We keep it up on and off some nights for over an hour, but it is so much fun, a great cardio workout, and Mom loves to watch us. Katie joins in as referee sometimes, barking and hopping around us when we wrestle. Do you have a yard to get out in when the evenings are nice?

Looks like you had a great time guys 🙂
We do most every night 😉
We call that having an attack of the ‘zoomies’ the boys use to do that when they were younger but not so much anymore
Good way to put it. Katie and I used to race, but then the past year or two that mellowed out but with Bailie, she has me fired up again.
Hi Emma. Oh how I wish our backyard was big like that! Lilly and I like to wrestle but you guys get to run and wrestle! Wow! your doodle friend Dash
We run until we are worn out and then we wrestle…save energy…get back to running. It is a blast!
Love watching their ears flying!
That is fun with us long eared types!
We loved all the pictures, especially the one that Bailie is calling to your mom for help! My Boston terrier siblings are older and they don’t play like us hounds, sigh. I wish I had a BGV sibling. Have a fabulous Friday! XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
My sister Katie and I used to do the same thing too. Your siblings sound boring I have to say!
They are boring. Right now Panda is in a cone of shame – he had a lump removed from the top of his head. It started when I nipped him there when I was younger (about a month ago.) Panda get grumpy because he is the alpha and only male. Hollee has given me the rules and SHE is the alpha female of this pack. I kinda steer clear of her. Lyla is my play target, but she curls her face up and it is UGLY when she plays! Lyla says she will teach me how to chase squirrels and bunnies when I am ready. I do stay busy going in and out getting sticks and rocks from the yard. Sometimes Lyla, Panda, and I play tug of war with our (my) toys, and I love doing that! XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
At least you have siblings so you aren’t all alone.
Great exercise. We do have a nice big yard, but neither Jack or Maggie are into wrestling too much…they are more like Katie I think. Glad you guys had fun at K9Kamp!
Katie was into it, but not anymore. Once and a while she will wrestle with Bailie.
I bet you guys sleep great after that! Looks like so much fun I kinda with I had someone to play with like that. Love Dolly
We do crash out pretty hard. It is the winding down that is the tough part. We usually go back out 2-3 times before we call it quits.
Backyard running is the best! Rocco loves it when he has pals over to zoom with. Love the flying flopping ears!
Diane and Rocco
It is so fun and Mom says she could watch us forever doing it.
Wonderful way to spend a nice evening. We use our front yard for a good game of chase. Veruca needs to stay on a long line because there isn’t a fence, but Ava runs free and loves it.
The leash would be tough for us since we race around trees and then the wrestling, but I’m sure your two have it figured out.
The photo of Bailie calling for your mom is hilarious! We have a big backyard to run and wrestle in with trees to chase around. It is great fun, then we catch our breath and start again.
We catch our breath while wrestling and then race again. Glad you boys race too 🙂
I love all of the pictures of your ears flying! You girls must be running fast! Barley and I have a nice grassy spot behind our apartment, but it’s not fenced, so she has to be on a long lead when we’re out, which keeps her from getting up to full speed. She’s looking forward to romping in her grandparents’ dog run later this month 🙂
Mom loves flying ears too! Running without a friend isn’t much fun, so I bet she will have a blast at her grandparents place.
Bailie would fit right in with the roos down under. No backyard yet, but hopefully some day soon. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the pups in full romp.
You guys get to romp at the beach or dog park which is fun too! I’ve seen serious racing shots on your blog!
Oh my goodness what fun you guys are having. Katie could be the referee
Lily & Edward
We are having fun. Katie does often come down and bark at us when we get too wild. That is her job.
They must have been pooped!
Once we settle down, we fall into our beds!
your ears!!! I bet you can fly! have a super friday and a fabulous weekend!
I probably could if they would flap up and down more!
You pups are always having so much fun! Great photos!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thanks. We do seem to always be up to something around here. Life isn’t dull.
Looks like a great time, Emma! We have a yard and there’s normally plenty of running and playing going on. It’s too warm to be out in the middle of the day here, but the doggies have a good time in the mornings and evenings. Have a great weekend! =D
Mornings we run and/or have a long walk, afternoons are too warm, but evenings…we get our wild pants on and really let loose!
That was a lot of fun seeing y’all have a lot of fun!
Do you kitties play chase in the house?
That looks like soooooo much fun! My backyard is so teensy-tiny that running is not much of an option. Even so, I get a good workout whenever the pesky SQ runs atop the fence.
Oh boy! My squirrel only runs in the front of the house which I find unfair since we have to be on a leash there.
That is such great exercise, Emma, and I can’t believe you keep it up for over an hour! Our girls will only last a few minutes playing chase with Luke, I wish they would do more than that! They are actually more likely to do that in the morning though, not so much the evening. Love the photos of you two having so much fun.
We chase, then wrestle to cool down, chase some more, go inside for two minutes, then back out. We get all wound up!
Such a good workout. I love the ears a flappin’.
Sometimes I have to jump start my pups. I start chasing one, and the next thing you know, three dogs are doing zoomies around the yard.

Sometimes Mom has to get us started too, but once we are started, look out!
Harley gets low and then with no coaxing he takes off and runs around like someone’s chasing him. By the time he stops – he exhausted. When we get inside, he’s out for the night…
Our problem is quitting when we are so wound up and in racing mode! We do sleep well, though!
Love the ears flapping in the wind!
There’s always lots of flapping at my house!
You gals are really whipping it up. Have a great night.
We do and almost every night.
That looks like SO much fun! Especially the being airborne part! Wheee!
We have so much fun almost every night. We often howl along too so the entire neighborhood knows we are racing!
You guys look like you are having way too much fun! Reminds me of Diesel and Ash!
A dog can never have too much fun, but we try to find the limits.
How much fun can two doggies have? You both look so happy.
Chase and wrestle is our favorite game!
Looks like you two are making the most of your backyard time. Love the action shots!
We love to race in the yard all year, but in the summer it is a bit easier than with snow!
That DOES look like a big backyard to me- especially because I am SO little! Looks like a lot of fun. Just like you, I love being able to chase. That’s all I do when I’m at the dog park. 🙂
It isn’t tiny, just average size around here, but big enough to get up some good speed. Chase is the best, isn’t it?
Sounds like a good evening workout!!
It is really good, gets us all worked up but then we crash.
I could literally sit and watch my dogs play together for hours. Right now though there is no playing because of Sampson’s leg. I really miss watching it and I know they miss playing together too.
Mom missed watching Katie and I play, but now Bailie and I have taken over and Katie barks along at times. Mom could watch forever too. Hopefully your boy will make a full recovery in time.
Looks like a workout & a half. Love that they are having sooooo much fun. Happy Fitdogging
It is a real calorie burner while it lasts. We get pretty tuckered out after 15-20 mins.
That is so much fun!! 🙂
Pretty much every night it gets going in our backyard!
