For my Chewy.com review this month I chose Primal Turkey Liver Munchies Freeze Dried Dog and Cat Treats. Through doing my reviews, I have realized that I just love the freeze dried treats!
I got to thinking, I’m pretty good in the kitchen, I wonder if I could make these myself? All I have to do is bag a turkey, and things would be good, right?
I decided to give it a try. How hard could it be as the only ingredient is the turkey liver. The package says Primal Treats are produced using USDA meats, poultry and game raised in the United States and New Zealand without antibiotics or added hormones and are produced using techniques such as freeze-drying. I can certainly do that! It sounds like a three step process, find a turkey (I have one already), freeze it, and dry it.
I started with freezing. I stuck the turkey in the freezer and kept checking on him until he was completely frozen.
Next I took him out and borrowed Moms hairdryer to dry him. Yikes! The turkey seems to be coming back to life as he defrosts! Now what???
Alright, I give up, there must be a secret process somewhere, because freeze and dry isn’t working out for this dog! I have to say your best bet if you want tasty freeze dried treats is to go to Chewy.com and order them. Chewy.com has more than 300 brands with products to choose from and is ready to fetch and ship, direct to your doorstep, with fast 1-2 day delivery, along with the ability to pre-schedule orders. They have warehouses located throughout the country, so the products are delivered quickly and efficiently. If you have any questions about products or your order, their helpful customer service team is available 24/7 to listen and assist you with your questions and concerns.
Now back to these delicious Liver Munchies treats from Primal! I couldn’t wait to get a taste as they smelled delicious! I also wanted to tell you a few of the benefits of the Primal Turkey Liver Munchies:
- Turkey raised in the United States without antibiotics or added hormones
- Single-source protein
- Healthy treats for dogs and cats
- High-protein snack
- No preservatives
- Grain and gluten free
- No added salt or sugar
I know, you are wondering…does Emma like them or what is all this fuss about? I love them! Lots of the pieces are large, but Mom can easily break them into whatever size we need at the moment. These treats are now in my nose work bag as part of my reward collection. It is good to keep me guessing what reward I will get. I work harder that way.
Thank you to Chewy.com for sending me these delicious Munchies!
Disclosure:Β I received one bag of these treats from Chewy.com to review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for this review and I receive no additional benefits for barking about the product or the company. The opinions in this review are my own honest opinions.
I am joining the Tasty Tuesday blog hop sponsored by Kolβs Notes and Sugar the Golden Retriever. If you are looking for tasty ideas, take a look at what other dogs are baking and eating!
I guess there is a secret ingredient. It’s easier to get mom to order from the interwebs anyway.
Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats.
I will definitely stick with ordering those kind of treats from Chewy.com!
Nice one. We’d love a nose work reward bag for all those nosey moments by the window LOL. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
Oh, now there is an idea!
you wouldn’t think freeze drying a turkey would be so hard but we guess it is…good job on trying and great review π
It sounded so simple, but I found out it is not. Glad I have Chewy.com to order from.
You crack me up, Emma. Great review!
Thank you π
I have a chicken almost like your turkey. Guess that would not work very well either. The mom had a good laugh over your turkey. Humans…sometimes they are hard to understand! XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
I wouldn’t recommend trying it with any type of bird. It is creepy when they come back to life! My turkey makes noise does your chicken?
My chicken makes so much noise it sometimes disappears, I think it is currently resting QUIETLY on the mantle. The mom just does not understand! She and I need to have a hen party and talk. Sparkle
My noisy toys get taken away sometimes too.
BOL!!!! Love your little turkey guy!! Those treats sure do sound tasty!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
They are lip licking good!
I think your process is the best!
Too bad it didn’t work very well.
You sure had a good idea there, Emma, too bad it didn’t work! Oh well, I guess that’s what we need Chewy for!
Thank goodness for Chewy.com.
Your process makes perfect sense to me! Freeze, Dry… maybe we will try — and we will let you know our results! your doodle friend, Dash
Be careful if your turkey comes back to life, it is really scary!
You are just too adorable, Emma! It was a good idea while it lasted π
It sure sounded simple, but I guess there is more to it.
Emma, I love Primal treats! I eat their food too but the freeze-dried liver treats are just scrumptious! You are too cute trying to freeze and dry your own turkey. It seems like so much work…just let Primal do the work for you while you just enjoy the savory deliciousness.
Oz
I thought if I made them myself I would have more of them to enjoy, but I will stick with ordering them from Chewy.com
Oh Emma, you’re just too cute! I bet your turkey friend didn’t like being in the freezer?
He made a lot of noise when he first went in!
I’m also pretty sure your turkey there doesn’t actually have a liver.. π very clever..
What! How could he not have a liver???
Haha oh Emma, what an excellent try. I’d end up with a similar result. Let’s just stick with stuff that’s already made for us π
I’m sticking with Chewy.com from now on.
We loooove freeze dried anything
Lily & Edward
It is like a whole new world of food since we found it!
Haha I give you an A+ for effort – I’m sure you almost had it!
I sure did try, but it wasn’t as simple as I had thought it would be.
Well you definitely win the prize for the funniest review. π
Glad you’re enjoying your treats, Emma. Did you have to share them with your sisters?
Thank you. I have to share everything with them, but we can order more so it is okay.
what a cute post! do you think I can put my two chicken in the freezer too? …. and I will look for the hair dryer, of course… hope it has not the same effects like my mom’s cheesecake… have a supertasty tuesday and many thanks for a yummy recipe!
Give it a try with your chickens, but don’t be too scared if they pop back to life when you get the blow dryer out. π
Hahahahaha Ems, Great try!
If you never try, you will never know.
OMD EMMA…. you gave it a GRRRRRREAT try… butt we guess it is TRUE what we all say… It is SO Easy to order our treats from Chewy.com… that making our OWN at home is a waste of PLAY TIME… We have these treats … and are doing a review of them ALSO… We TOTALLY agree with you, Emma… they are OUTSTANDING.
They are so tasty aren’t they! I will just order more from Chewy.com π
So much easier just to rip open the bag of treats! π
I sure figured that out! Good think I have Chewy.com!
Those sound delicious! Mom baked a turkey last week and I got the boiled livers, gizzards, and all of those yummy parts. I didn’t think about freeze-drying, but it sounds easier to buy the Primal! β₯ XXOO, Bentley
Gramma always gives us those good turkey parts too. Can’t believe the humans don’t want them!
Those sound yummy! We are big fans for the Primal brand around here as well. I just can’t figure out why your own freeze-dried turkey didn’t turn out!? π
I’m real perplexed, but at least I can order them from Chewy.com.
Nice try Emma! I think you need a special oven to freeze dry stuff. But A for effort! Love Dolly
I don’t know, Dolly, freeze dry doesn’t sound like bake hot to me??? I give up and will just order more.
Sometimes it is just best if the yum comes to your door Emma!
I think you are right on with that thought!
This was a very cute review! My whole gang just loved these.
We love them, super yummy!
i’ve never tried any freeze dried treats. they’re yummy, huh?
wags, bailey unleashed
They are the best and since they aren’t greasy or anything, they are great to put in a pocket or carry around, plus they are usually just the meat, no extras so they are healthy. We haven’t met a kind we don’t like yet!
Funny Emma. You guys got lots of food int he freezer. This brand is new to us (Sugar), will check it out. Happy Tasty Tuesday. Golden Woofs
Oh, it isn’t that full. Mom keeps lots of stuff frozen so she can have a quick meal if she needs to. These are real good and I have heard from others they like them too.
I LOVE this post!!! You are SO good at the picture posing part!! By the way…tell your mom we love her kitchen!! Glad you loved the treats…we love the freeze dried ones too! xo Chloe and LadyBug
Freeze dried are really the best, but now we rarely get them unless we are working on nose work or tracking as they are high value special rewards and Mom wants to keep them that way. Mom and I like our kitchen a lot too, thank you π
We LOVE the Primal raw foods. We’re going to have to try out these freeze dried treats some time!
My pesty cat bro Bert loves all my freeze dried treats. I’m not happy to share with him, but he usually insists or just steals from me.
I say that you’re pretty smart for getting them from Chewy π That turkey freeze drying stuff looks complicated lol.
It really sounded easy, but I give up and will just order them.
My guys love the freeze dried treats too. I think lamb lung might be their favorite though. Thanks for sharing these treats Emma.
I just love them. Combine these with nose work and I am in doggy heaven!
This is our first visit to your blog, via Melissa’s Mochas, Mysteries and Meows, and mom is still howling. Happy Sunday.
Pawsome! I have two cats, cat bro Bert often makes appearances as he is always up for mischief! Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again.
The human googled before… it seems you need industrial equipment for the freeze drying process so that its safe for the dog… but glad you had the spirit of experimentation in you! Haha!
You have to admit with the name freeze dried, it sure sounded simple!
