Walking is such a fun activity for dogs and their humans. I love to walk for so many reasons, but I have a couple favorite benefits of walking that I just have to share!
It makes me proud to have my girlish figure at age eight! Not only do I have a waistline, but even my groomer commented on it last time she stripped down my coat. I’ve been at basically the same weight since I was a year old and hope that staying slim and trim will add to my life expectancy. A dog at the proper weight should have a slight hourglass figure, and humans should be able to feel a dog’s ribs when petting over them. I do lots of different things to stay in shape, but maintaining a healthy weight is definitely one of the benefits of walking (and for your human too).
Having a girlish figure is great, but my absolute most favorite benefit of walking is getting to eat more snacks! Oh yes, my sisters and I love our snacks. We mostly eat healthy snacks, and our dog food is a healthy variety, but even healthy foods can pack on the pounds if you don’t exercise. Our routine is to take a nice walk, come home, have a snack, and then off to snoozeville to fill up our energy tanks for the next adventure. Mom loves to snack too, so it is imperative for her to get in plenty of walking to make space for more food!
Today is the last day of National Walk Your Dog Week and our #DogWalkingWeek blog hop, challenge and giveaway. The blog hop will turn into a pumpkin at midnight tonight! Not to worry, though, we do have another blog hop starting on the 9th, where you have until Sunday the 12th to share #DogWalkingWeek success stories! For more information click here. We are looking forward to hearing how your week went!
I agree with you! and our bipeds can eat more treats too (or dirt lol) while having their girlish figure (nearly) when we walk every day.
Your mom’s dirt diet should help her drop poundage quickly as I doubt she will have much of an appetite for it.
now see – that is what we are talking about – priority – walking means you can have a few extra snackies.
Oh yeah…that is the best benefit! No calorie counting around here, just more paw padding on the streets.
I agree with all those things. Torrey weighs the same now as always, and these guys like the little extra treats after walking too.
It is great coming home to a nice bowl of water and a snack…then a nice snooze to process everything from the walk.
We so agree that being out and about keeps you fit and then that means more snacks and treats. Win/Win we say. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly
It is a big win all the way around, and for the bipeds too.
We’re with you, Emma. Bring on those snacks!
Oh, yeah! A dog can never have too many snacks if he works out properly.
Well Honey doesn’t walk alone. But somehow she keeps her girlish figure while mine is a little too girlish.
Have you been dipping into Honey’s snacks???
That’s the nice thing about living in a city- no backyard . Katie gets 4 walks a day. Some longer than others, but she walks.
Very true! We have that yard is not a bathroom rule, so we walk 2-3 times a day and then play in the yard but many humans with yards just get lazy and don’t walk which is sad for the dogs and humans.
I love snacking. π This summer has been too hot for much outside time, even in the mornings and evenings, but now the temperature has finally fallen a little. This is the first year of my life I’ve looked forward to fall and winter!
We never like summer much with the heat, humidity, and bugs. Right now the fall temps are just great, but soon we will be ready to romp in fresh snow.
Your reason #2 is one of my favorite reasons to walk also…must have room for snacks! I’m glad you have another Hop starting for us to wrap up our week – I’ve gotten our walk is, but I haven’t gotten our posts written!
Snacks are the best, and Mom agrees! The follow up hop should be fun, you have a few days to get to your keyboard for that.
This is a great post Emma! This is exactly what mom learned when I came into her life. She lost a ton of weight walking with me and I could have lots of treats because I was such a good walker! We need to get her back into the swing of things. She has been reading your posts and Cascadian nomads and taking some notes for improving her attitude and getting back into good walking routine with us. It’s just her job takes so much time! I’m not giving up hope, and we keep talking to her about it! Your doodle friend, Dash
My mom puts fitness first which is why we are up practically in the middle of the night…every morning without fail we walk and/or run before the day begins so it is behind us and we are primed for the day. She will find her pattern.
I’m all for more snacks! AROOOOOO! What? Did I miss the most important part of your post? All I heard was snacks …
Oh yeah, snacks! Bailie is using lamb lungs from Jones, by the way, for her tracking rewards π
A few extra treats followed by a nice long walk should cancel themselves out, right?! BOL! Great post!!
That is how our math works π
The more you burn, the more you earn!
That is so correct…yum!
Walking is the funnest thing… staying at home is borrriinngg.
I never say no to a walk.
Count me in for extra snacks!
Yes! Great idea!
These are some of our favorite things about walking too! The older we get (dogs and humans) the harder it is to keep our girlish figures. So more walking is definitely in order, because we sure don’t want to give up the snacks!
We never cut back at our house, we just up the exercise if necessary, fur feels a bit snug π
The opportunity for more snacks is definitely a walk motivator π Good thing we all enjoy it so much!
That is right, and when you are totally tuckered out, the thought of snacks will give you the power to get home.
You always look fit as a fiddle Emma!
Thank you. I try my best.
Good point, Emma!!
Thank you.
Great job on the Walking Week blog hop! We are walking and really enjoying our cooler evenings. I think you have the cutest figure. βΊ β₯ Your Basset, Bentley
Oh my, blushing under my fur again! We love our cooler weather, starting to look forward to snow in another 6-8 weeks too.
Our favorite reasons to walk too so we can have treats! We loved #DogWalkingWeek and have another post for next week. Just couldn’t get them all in this week, its like mom has more posts than days in October! Love Dolly
I was rather low on post ideas when this hop popped up, now we have a calendar full of stuff. Mom says we never need to worry as things just seem to happen when we need them, thankfully! Thanks so much for joining. We sure hope it has motivated some dogs to get out there and walk with their humans.
We also believe that walking and snacking go hand in paw!
4 paws up for that thought!
Two great reasons, you look great.
Thank you, we work hard on staying fit and eating lots of snacks.
Whatever you’re doing Emma, keep on doing it cause you’re Harley’s favorite girl…
Oh my, blushing under my fur π I plan to keep my figure just like Katie has all her 12 years.
You look great Emma. Snacks are a good incentive to get out and walk!
They are the very best reason ever!
I’m with you, Emma! I love walking, but being able to eat tasty treats is a great bonus!
The snacks at the end are what makes it all worthwhile!
