Today is my fourth and final post in our “‘Healthier Pets. Happier Lives.” campaign with Hill’s Science Diet. It’s really just three simple steps that lead to healthy and happy pets. Remember, as important as it is to get healthy and happy, it is just as important to stay healthy and happy. By providing the three steps of nutrition, little extras, and vet visits, you will be doing your best to have healthy pets!
Mealtime and proper dog nutrition is the first step in creating healthy, happy dogs. Deciding on the correct food and portions can be a confusing task, so don’t do it alone. Check with your veterinarian for guidance. Some factors that will influence your choice of food will be the age of your dog, activity level, and any allergies. Little Extras are the second step in having healthy, happy dogs. Lots of love and healthy treats are my favorite little extras, but toys, play, exercise, and grooming are also important components. Your dog needs both mental and physical workouts to be completely fulfilled.
Annual vet visits are never to be overlooked! Your dog needs to visit their vet at least once a year. Missing just one year is like a human missing five years! Yearly checkups help your vet get to know your dog better and spot problems earlier, making them easier and less costly to treat.
As dogs, we are completely dependent on our humans to make decisions on our food and care. By feeding us healthy foods, providing little extras, and making sure we visit the vet at least once a year, it not only strengthens the bond we have together, but it helps ensure we are healthy, happy dogs with the best quality of life we can get.

I’ve always wanted to try some of their more fruity snacks with the rats. I bet they’d really like those!
My cat bro Bert eats most of our dog treats…well, he steals them to eat, so I would guess rats would be fine with them too.
We like healthy=happy and so like little extras. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
It is so true.
healthy happy and wise
I think it used to be healthy, wealthy, and wise, but money doesn’t always bring happy.
I think brown dawgs would pick meal time and little extras over the vet. Good thing they have humans to insist on their annual vet visits. 🙂
I don’t like the vet visits either, but I have to go regularly…says the Mom.
Just three simple steps – everyone should be able to do that, right! Thanks Emma.
It is really not that hard, but lots of humans don’t seem to be able to do it.
Healthy pets make for happy humans too!
Very true!
Great advice, Emma! I am “kind of” nursing the mama Boston terrier in our house. She hurt her good eye and cannot see anything. Sometimes I remember to guide her as she walks. Funny, her 2 real pups do not appear to notice her troubles. It is sad to see her struggle. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Oh that is sad. I have heard a lot about dogs that can’t see having their own seeing eye dog. Maybe that is your new job.
I love the article- it’s so true. Health and happiness are so closely linked in everyone’s lives! Feeling great is so important for the inside and the outside- these are great tips! Thanks for sharing, we’ll be sure to think about this too at our house!
Awesome. It is pretty simple, yet many humans don’t do these things. Healthy, happy pets make for happier humans too.
Three great tips indeed!
Thank you!
We all want to get healthy and stay healthy so those are great trips. you are very good not to try to grab a chew bone there at my favorite store.
Mom taught us when we were little that shoplifting is not appropriate for nice girls, so we sniff but don’t take 😉
Makes sense! Meal time, extras and vet visits!!! Pawfect! PLUS all the love that they can get!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Love is so important, we are always giving out snuggles and stuff around here.
Always on the look out for healthy treat options. Great post! Don’t miss ours today, you make a cameo 😉
Healthy and safe are important!
Being healthy is very important in our house

Health is one thing no amount of money can buy, you have to work at it.
Mr. N believes wholeheartedly in the “little extras.”
They are great, aren’t they 😉
Vet visits just can’t be oversold, we think. (especially when it comes to teeth cleaning!) And our mom is sooo glad we’re not into treats,as the weight loss plan is enough to handle with just the food! And a healthy weight is so important!!
My cats are into treats, but they are rationed out carefully.
You are spot on, Emma! I get my share of treats, that’s for sure, but I sorta run it off pretty easily. 🙂
We work ours off well too!
Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley prefer the mealtime and little extras steps over the vet visit one but I think they know it’s all important!
The vet is the absolute worst place to go, but we have to do it. Sometimes Mom has to carry me in because I refuse to go on my own. Nice people, but I don’t like what they do.
Great tips Emma!
Thank you.
We dislike vet visits so much but we still make ourselves go at least once a year. I’m sure Laika would choose mealtime and extras over a vet visit anytime. I must say taking her to the vet to get weighed occasionally has helped her anxiety quote a bit – just getting her desensitized to the office a little bit at a time. Great tips and I agree – dogs need mental and physical exercise to really thrive.
Mom as tried all the tricks, but Katie and I are still scared of the vet office. We have to go, so we do, but we don’t like it!
Great tips, Emma! Thanks for sharing them. They are all very important!
Thank you.
We had a beautiful Friday woods walk! If Aspen ever gives me time I will post it!?
Mom is sad that Bailie is no longer a true puppy, but it sure does make life easier when she doesn’t have to be watched 24/7!
Stay healthy and happy guys 🙂
