Mom is one of those overly efficient types, not happy wasting time. Right now with Bailie’s tracking, after laying a track they need to age up to an hour some times, so what can Mom do during that time? This is where a multi purpose walk fits in. It just so happens that some of the tracking fields are right next to some walking trails like this one at Cobblestone Lake.
This area is real unique. Above is a photo of one of the two fields Mom uses to do tracking on with Bailie. To the right of the field is Cobblestone Lake, and to the left is a shopping center with several stores and businesses. Mom likes to track here because it is close to home and she can either go for a walk or run errands while the track is aging. On this day, I came along and had a nice multi purpose walk with Mom and Bailie. We went late afternoon, so this walk would be our evening walk and Mom would only have to take Katie on her short walk when we got home.
Cobblestone Lake is a fun place to walk. As you can see, the trail is 1.4 miles long, so pretty short, but I love to walk there. It was Bailie’s first time walking around the entire lake. Mom loves the separate bike and walking trails and they have garbage cans every 100 yards or so which makes picking up poop so easy! The lake is surrounded by single family and town homes as well as a couple park areas. It was built to make one feel like they are in a city environment.
One end of the lake has a real nice pavilion. We took a short stop there for a photo.
There is also a floating dock that is used as a fishing pier. We went out on it, but I have to say, it is real scary. There are spaces between the boards below our paws, and the thing moves. I was glad to get back onto solid ground!
So, there you have it. Rather than say she does not have enough time for everything, she turns a tracking outing into a tracking outing plus a half hour walk with me and Bailie, and some days she runs errands rather than walking. If you really want to get everything to fit in, you have to plan your day like a puzzle! If you want to squeeze in some fitness, there is a way! Stay tuned next Friday for an update on Bailie and her tracking progress.

Looks like a fun place for a walk!
It’s short and urban, but we always enjoy it there.
Looks like a beautiful place
Normally we don’t care much for walking around neighborhood like settings since we can do that from home, but we like this one a lot.
We agree looks like a lovely place for a walk. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
And that day was lovely weather too!
What a beautiful place, I like the multi purpose aspect to it. We don’t have enough time to do everything so that makes it handy.
With our nose work homework and tracking homework both with aging issues, it was making Mom frustrated, but problem has been solved now.
What a beautiful place to walk or just hand out!
We love it there.
Resounds like a fun and pretty place to be.
We love that trail, and over the years we have watched as the homes get built up around the lake which is fun to see too.
Such good advice Emma, there’s always time to squeeze in a little fitness – especially since it’s so important to our health.
And even if it isn’t something huge, it is still getting out and moving about.
That looks a fun place for a walk. I don’t like it when the ground under my feet moves, Emma!
Bailie looks as though her ears are much smaller than yours. Are they still growing?
I am pretty much the ideal breed standard, size, fur, everything. Bailie is the same breed, but her legs are too long, and her ears are a bit short, so she isn’t a perfect specimen, but she is still a GBGV. Since Mom doesn’t show or breed us, it isn’t a big deal. The main thing is that she is a sweetheart.
Looks like a great place to take a walk! You guys are so lucky to have such cool places to explore!
Our area does have a ton of great places to go.
Looks like a lot of fun and TONS of variety to keep Bailey distracted so that she is fresh for tracking
Believe me, she is always ready for tracking. We are pretty sure she tracked her way out of the womb because her nose has been down since the day we met her!
Fitting in everything certainly is like a puzzle–and it’s becoming a more difficult puzzle with the days getting shorter! I’m glad your mom has found a good way to make it work.
It seems like we just have more and more to do but leaving out our activities is not an option, so we have to get creative.
that looks like a wonderful place for a walk
It’s good for a short walk in an urban setting.
Oh that does look like a lovely place!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
It really is and there is a lot of wild life around too like ducks, geese, squirrels…
Bailie looks like a wild child in that one picture. The mom calls me her wild child these days as I just cannot control my behavior. She hopes it is a stage that will pass. What a nice place for a walk and sniff. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Bailie is no doubt a wild child. Mom says it is because she is so much younger than Katie and I, but I don’t know. She is just a wild girl.
That is a WELL PLANNED area… TWO SEPARATE Paths and PLENTY of trash bins… PERFECT Combo for GOOD TIMES…
It is very well planned out and efficient!
Gorgeous! That place looks like a serene place to go for a walk. We have a lake by our house, too, but ours doesn’t have a tracking field- how cool! Ours has a bandshell/archery range/dog park/sledding hill, which is nice, but also makes it really busy. Hope you had a great time! 🙂
We have so many spots so they are never too busy. At least in the summer we can take a quick swim to cool off a bit.
This is a fun post. But you know what we noticed? Bailie really LOOKS like a puppy in these photos. I think she is going to stay a puppy for a little while longer. And she is so cute, Emma! Must be hard for your mom to get mad at her!! Have a great Friday, your doodle friend, Dash
Bailie is very immature for her age. Anyone that knows her would agree, but she is such a happy girl, we don’t mind. If she would just stop being destructive that would be our only request!
Looks like a great place. And yep, I agree, There is always time for fitness in the day somewhere.
If you really want to stay fit, there is a way, but I think lots of folks just give up too easily.
Looks like a beautiful day for a fall walk. Have to squeeze all we can out of the season.
We are ready to start walking in the snow around here. Winter is always lots of fun!
Such a lovely multipurpose walk! And what a great idea, I had not considered pre-loading a trail for tracking purposes. Zack (my tracker) is going to have an unexpected surprise … as soon as it stops raining.
For testing (TD) the tracks can up up to I think 2 hrs old. The aging actually helps concentrate the scent more so it tends to make it easier for the dog to stay on track especially if it is windy. Tracking in rain is also good for the scent as long as it isn’t a big driving rain. One of the best tracks Bailie has run was in light rain after aging about 20 minutes. You can experiment with times to see what is the best age for Zack to run. Bailie seems to be around 45 mins.
Someone really put a lot of thought into making that a convenient place to walk, and it must be pretty around the lake too. Your Mom is wise to make the most of her time, since there never seems to be enough of it!
Did Bailie get a little trim around her face? She looks a little different in that first photo, or is it just me?
Maybe she got her beard combed? No trimming or anything new with her.
That looks like a great place to walk and no excuse not to scoop that poop! 😉 So are the shops dog friendly? I bet that really tires you guys out.
Target is one of the stores. Mom can race in and out real quick when the weather isn’t hot out, but the running store allows dogs.
Emma, at first I thought the sign said 14 miles! I need to get my vision checked.
Wow, that would be a trek and that track would really be aged! LOL!
Do you age tracks to make them harder for the dogs to find? Or is there another purpose?
Actually, aging helps us because the scent settles and doesn’t travel in the wind as much. We will have more on tracking next Friday.
What a beautiful place to walk, jog, and sniff! Those houses in the background are gorgeous!! ♥♥ Love, Bentley
They are nice and big homes, but on super small lots like in the city which we wouldn’t like, but it is a nice area.
Looks like a great area to walk. Kilo and I love walking down by the water when it is warmer. A bit windy and cool already now but still pretty. We like our local ravine too. Have a great weekend. XS
Soon walking by the water will be walking by the ice spot, so we walk by any time 😉
Looks like a great place to walk. I’d like to live there! Planning your day like a puzzle is a great way to put it! Happy weekend.
These days with so much going on it really has become a puzzle, but it works.
Hi Y’all!
Do y’all ever meet up with other dogs and get a chance to play and visit? Is that an off leash area where you can run free? If not, is there one?
Y’all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
It isn’t an off leash area, but we have a lot of off leash dog parks in the area. I’m not much for hanging out with dogs I don’t know, Katie and Bailie are the more social ones. Sometimes we go to the dog park to do some racing around with other furs.
That floating pier looks like a fun place to hang out!
I bet cats would like it better than Bailie and I did. It was scary because it moved as we moved!
Glad to see your mom taking advantage of opportunities like those, it looked like a great walk. And I doubt if I would have stayed on that dock so long! Love Dolly
Believe me, when she said we could go, we both raced onto solid ground!
Our mom was soooo happy today because it was warm enough for her to walk/run outside again! Yesterday was in the 40’s and during the week, she doesn’t get home til after dark now, so she works out inside. And then….COLD, and…and…SNOW. Brrrrrrr.
This lake/park/path run looks very cool!
We are really excited, as we are getting a snowstorm right now. Mom and we dogs work out outside all year and just love it. Mom loves running in the snow.
What a beautiful place to walk!
It is real nice there.
I love the floating dock – it looks like a place where Harley and I could sit and relax for hours.
For Bailie and I it was rather scary because it moved a bit. Mom said we should go anyway and learn not to be afraid, so we went on it, but couldn’t wait to get our paws back on land!
