Wow! Christmas is now behind us and we have 2015 just ahead of us. This is the perfect time to start planning how we will fit fitness into our lives in 2015.
It’s true. Mom said we have lost a few hours a day in the past year. How can that be you say? Well, Bailie and I started taking K9 nose work classes and Bailie started tracking. The classes themselves take a few hours a week and then we have homework on the non-class days that takes anywhere from 1-2 hours a day. Katie has really slowed down which means her walks have gotten shorter but doubled in time. I also blog pretty much six days a week and that takes a lot of my time as well, thus, we are missing a few hours each day. Mom just gets up earlier and earlier to fit everything in and it works for us. If you are not a morning team, then stay up later to squeeze everything in if you need to.
How can we still get everything accomplished? I sat down on my K9 FitBone with my calendar and planner and started working out a plan. Health is the number one priority at our house. We try to eat healthy and exercise. Health is something you have that cannot be bought or replaced, so it will always be a top priority. We are also lucky that Mom is really self motivated. No matter what, we get our fitness in every day.
If you want to set goals for walking or running with your dog in 2015, that is pawsome, but make sure you keep those goals, don’t fail, or cheat on yourself. If you don’t want to get up some mornings, get up anyway because you need to reach your goals. Don’t want to walk because it is too cold, raining, or some other weather condition? Make sure you have the proper attire in your closet and get out in all the elements. If you know it will be pouring during your morning walk the next day, mentally prepare for it so you can be ready and actually enjoy getting soaked. If you don’t have enough time for fitness, get up earlier or stay up later. There is always time if you really want to do something.
The start of a new year is the ideal time to start your fitness program with a clean slate. Make a plan and stick to it no matter what! You and your pooch will feel so much better and be much healthier if you are a fit team! If you need additional motivation, try challenging yourself to join the FitDog Friday blog hop every week with a post about your activity during each week.

Emma, I agree with you. It makes no sense to plan things what we can’t do, as cool as they may be in theory. At the end we are sad when we fail…so we better do small steps… and I hope the first small step starts today with a looooooooong walk :o)
We had a wonderful long walk, so we are off on the right paw!
We started well today with an extra long walk. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
So did we, yay!
Sometimes fit is hard to fit in with the time we have!
Time gets shorter and he list of tings to do gets longer.
our only plan is to do ‘something’ everyday. We like the mystery of adventures π
We have to plan it out a bit because of our homework and stuff.
You are a pawsome ambassador of fitness! I will pass your tips on to the mom. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
I just want our friends to all be as healthy as can be.
Does your mother want to adopt me and Katie?
I will have to check, but that would probably add to our to do list which is already so long!
We always fit in some kind of exercise. I would go crazy otherwise.
We can’t live with mom if she doesn’t get her daily exercise.
Thanks for the great advice. I’m going to really try hard to follow along and do some fitness for myself and the pooches. Nellie is so over weight we really need to do something.
You have to just get into your daily routine and then it becomes easy and fun.
Great post Emma. Planning your week to fit in your fitness is critical – may times it’s the first thing to get short-changed.
Humans always say they don’t have time, but you have to make time and we are ones that get the big walk and/or run in first thing so it is done. All the other walks and homework stuff is just gravy, so if for some reason they get cut out, we already have the big chunk done.
This is great, Emma. I know that I need to sit down and come up with a plan for 2015. With Luke’s knee, and Sheba’s arthritis there will be challenges, along with this crazy winter weather but we will need to just work around things like you do.
I recently had a doctor’s appointment and found out my weight is at it’s lowest for over a few years, and I know that it’s because of Luke joining our household and me getting out moving so much more because of him. The benefits are not just for the dogs, but for us humans as well!
That is pawsome that your weight is down! Where there is a will, there is a way. I’m sure you will figure out something but with all the different needs, it will be more like our house and require more time.
What a wonderful idea Emma, we will be sitting down with Mama in the next week to form a plan! We got Mama a planning calendar for 2015, and will make sure she sticks to her plan!

Dory, the Birthday Girl
Hope you are enjoying your birthday today! Glad to hear you all will work on staying fit in 2015. It is so very important!
I find that a new, cute fitness top or pants are great motivation to keep me working out! Of course, I can’t go out and get something new everyday, but it’s nice once in a while!
That works for Mom too. She got a new running top for Christmas and can’t wait to try it out.
Mom just got some new shoes for our walks. I have dropped four pounds and am moving much better. I want to look good next to you in Nashville! β₯
Wow! 4 pounds is a lot, that is pawsome! Keep on paw padding forward we always say! Good for you π
Hear, hear! I couldn’t agree more with you ~ staying fit & healthy is also the number 1 priority in our pack! One of our new year’s resolutions is taking a K9 Nosework/Tracking class, that’ll be fun!
So glad fitness is your priority! You will love nose work. I think it is my favorite thing ever…well, maybe after chasing wabbits and squirrels. Good for you guys!
After all our Christmas Eve and Christmas making sure Aspen had fun and everyone had treats and toys we were exhausted Friday, but we had to get Mica her exercise so we got out and did her woods walk. I know we came back tired and then had to play with Aspen:)
We know how that goes. Bailie and I get our walks and/or runs in and our nose work and tracking but Mom still has to go out walking with Katie. It keeps Mom fit!
Well I’m not big on planning and organizing. But we always go out every day.
As my Norwegian friends say, “There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.”
You are so right about that! Mom has a closet full of stuff for every kind of weather and we always go out! We don’t have to plan much since we just do it, but we do have to plan time for our nose work and tracking homework.
Such a great tip; I’ve been trying to get some more planned activities into our routine lately given Laika’s arthritis diagnosis. We’re currently making up an activity log which doesn’t consist of frisbee, frisbee, frisbee… Luckily she enjoys swimming, hiking, nose work, and plenty of other less rigorous activities just as well. The end of the year always leaves me wondering how we can improve the next year.
With Katie and her arthritis it is getting harder and harder, but she still enjoys walking,it just takes a long time as she is pretty slow.
Sounds like a great plan Emma! I actually got a few extra walks in this week because the weather was so nice. Remind your mom that mine wants to do a winter walking challenge in the new year. Love Dolly
Believe it or not, we have talked about it a few times, but with that awful warm and rainy weather we had the past few weeks, we weren’t in the mood for much of anything. Now that winter is arrived, we can move forward again.
We agree. Mommy’s obsessed with fitness, working out every day. I feel it’s my Cod-given duty to snoopervise her. ~ Faraday
Maxwell: Dood, sometimes she even uses you as a dumbbell, too.
HEYYYYYY, whoya calling dumbbell?!?!??! ~ Faraday
My fat cat bro Bert feels the need to supervise…he never feels the need to workout himself, though.
2015 is oh so close and we need to think about our health too. Definitely more walks and exercise!
Health is the one thing money cannot really buy if it goes bad, so you need to take care of yourself as best as you can. Exercise is very important.
Great advice although I do tend to miss out on sleep to get everything done and that is not good either. When I miss sleep I get sick so I tend to make that a priority.
Years ago in Germany before I was born, Mom got sick a lot. Her doctor told her because she was so active, her body needed some help, so for over ten years now she has been taking 1000mg of time release Vitamin C and maybe gets sick once a year. Time release is hard to find, but it is at Walgreens for sure. It made a huge difference. If she feels like a cold might be coming on, she takes another at night for a couple days.
