Today is the big day, this Super Bowl thing! I have to say, I’m rather frustrated with the entire event as there are several big misconceptions out there and they can really confuse a dog! I want to go over three of the biggest points of confusion I have with the Super Bowl.
First off the name. Super Bowl means to a dog something to do with a bowl which makes us think food bowl and super means big. Keeping this in mind, when I was asked about aΒ Super Bowl party, IΒ got a party hat and my biggest bowl. This bowl can hold a couple pounds of chow easily! Well, wrong. I was told the Super Bowl has nothing to do with party hats and super sized dog dishes. How wrong is that?
Football. What is a football? Ask any Labrador you know, a ball is round and rolls. What in heavens name is this odd oval type shaped thing and how is anyone calling it a ball? What came first, the UK or the USA? Obviously, the UK, and we call football what Americans call a soccer ball. Now who in their right mind thought of naming this odd shaped pigskin thing a football? Just wrong, so very wrong and confusing…especially for a British born dog like myself.
Deflate Gate. Ladies and gentlemen, this is nothing new! Our former friend Buddy did the deflate gate thing on our soccer ball a few years ago and we have been dealing with it ever since! Humans act like it is something new. Ask your dog, chances are they have dealt with the deflate gate issue in the past as well. Another thing, a deflated ball is awesome if you catch with your mouth, not with your paws. Has anyone ever seen this Brady dude from the Patriots catch a ball in his mouth? No. He needs to go back and hang out with his bunch, and I have never seen any Bradys in the Brady Bunch catch a ball in their mouth. Get over it, but if that Brady guy starts catching a ball in his mouth we may need to revisit this topic.
All that being said, I think I understand the Super Bowl concept now and I will do my best to eat a lot of dog snacks, howl for great plays, and try not to fall asleep as football, American style, bores me to no end. I do try to get into the game if my Vikings are playing, but they are so bad, it’s almost always a boring, lousy game, and I typically give up on this sport early in the season. Go Seahawks…I have to choose a team and I choose them because I have a lot of friends in the Seattle area. Enjoy the game!
BOL We’re with you, Emma!
I think most dogs would be on my side with this stuff.
Just loved this, except for the not liking football part lol!!! I normally go with the Patriots but I also have friends in the Seattle area so am going for Seattle!!! Your photos are darling too!
Thank you. We love football when our team is winning, but if the Gophers or Vikings aren’t playing or winning, we aren’t real interested.
Have a great time and have a serene and easy Sunday after the match.
Best wishes Molly
We will crash out with full bellies when it is over.
we too find the whole thing confusing – we just like the commercials π
We hope the commercials are good. Last year, so many of them were way too weird for our taste.
Thanks for setting the record straight Emma! I am looking forward to several hours of cuddles on the couch while the folks waste their time. Love, Dolly
Nice napping time and maybe sneak in some snacks.
Wow, Emma, you observations are so on! Long before our time the Mom had a Boston named Pepper. She says Pepper loved to play soccer, but (even with her little Boston mouth) would deflate a soccer ball in every outing! The mom is going to the Magic Kingdom later today, leaving us kids home to watch the Super Bowl. She has seen the new Budweiser commercial and that is what she REALLY cares about. Enjoy your munchies. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Wow! Hope your mom has a magical time. Too bad you can’t go along and meet Mickey and Minnie, Pluto and the rest of the gang. Make sure she leaves plenty of snacks out for you all to munch on while watching the game.
I’m with you… I always looked for that super-bowl and I never saw it. We try to stay awake tonight, but that’s not easy for Easy…maybe with a super bowl full of supertreats, I can spend the time till midnight :o)
My mom used to stay up for it when she lived in Germany…it was really way too late.
Thanks for clearing all that up, Emma. We find football to be a very confusing sport!! We picked Seattle in the betting pool we’re in with my family just for fun, so we’ll be rooting for them as well (if we don’t fall asleep)!
Hope Seattle wins, they seem much nicer. Hope you bet something good like wabbit jerky π
Well sweet Emma, I think a super bowl filled with food sounds like a wonderful thing!
I have to agree!
I would like to see your closet. You have the best clothes for every occasion. Watch the commercials. Lots of puppies. You should have been in one.
Maybe some day…one never knows. I always have my cell with me in case Hollywood calls.
I have to say Emma, those are all very good points. What is all the hub bub? We have tons if rain here, maybe their little game will be rained out.
We find it rather funny it is so cold and wet down there. The weather is almost better up north!
What a big bowl! That is a super bowl!!! Have a great Sunday Emma. Thanks for pointing out so many good points!! Our favorite college boy is coming for dinner tonight so we think THAT alone is super!! Your doodle friends Dash and Lilly!
Sounds like fun. Any activities involving food are always on top of my list!
Just popped by’z to wizh youz a belated Happy’z New Year. Wez back and

Mollie and Alfie
I thought you were gone forever! Good to see you are back. I will be by later…real busy with stuff today.
We’re going to watch the Super Bowl with mommy and daddy. You make some great points and we are right there with you on the big bowl part! We are telling mommy that we can’t watch the Super Bowl tonight without our bowls full of good stuffs to eat!
That is correct, food is the biggest part of the game!
We are raised on football here in bayou country. Mom and Dad LOVE the sport, but mostly watch college games. We will cheer for Seattle too! You make a cute ref β₯ Bentley
It is interesting if the Gophers or Vikings are playing and winning, but it doesn’t happen often. I’m more in it all for the snacks.
BOL – I’m with you Emma… I don’t get to into football myself.
Good for you. I assume you will be partying just for snacks too, then?
Great post! BOL! If you hometown team wasn’t playing we’d be in it just for the snacks!
Snacks get me interested in anything that comes along. I really need to thank whoever invented snacks!
We are not much into football either! LOL!
Maybe we should hold a wabbit chases followed by snacks instead?
Emma,
You sure did an excellent job of explaining this super bowl stuff to us. I was very confused as well.
New Grandpa for the third time, Chablis.
Congratulations! I will never be a mom or grandma, but I’m okay with it. I have to deal with fur siblings who are similar to children which more than makes up for my very own π
I think you should get lots of Super Bowl snackies that was great!
Thank you. I’ve got my paws crossed.
As long as I get snacks, I don’t care.
Pretty much how I feel if my team isn’t playing.
Wow…you make some very valid points Emma….Our Mama is the big fanatic in our house but since her teatm, the NY Giants were a bunch like your Vikings, this was not a good football year!
Smileys!
Dory
Sad we can’t always have winning teams. Winning is so much more fun.
The brown dawgs once had a really nice ball and we left it out on a hot summer day and it deflated. What’s up with that? π I am a Patriots fan because I love me some Tom Brady. He has been my favorite player since I watched him play at Michigan. They had a (stupid) 2 quarterback system back then. The other QB would get the team in trouble and Tom would come in and move them down the field to score. He was fantastic under pressure. I am so glad he had a good game and got MVP. π
It wasn’t a big deal for us, so if Seattle was so dumb in the end, it is what happens.
I agree with everything you said. We watch the puppy bowl instead every year. Cuteness overload! =D
We often watch it, but this year we didn’t have time to.
Tell it like it is Emma, set us all straight LOL (so cute!)
I like to get my dog opinion out there. I’m not shy π
Aww! And you look super FAB in your ref uniform too!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thank you. I enjoy bossing others around.
Mostly we watch for the commercials. π
Mom isn’t really into all that football stuff, and lately the commercials are a bit odd too, but the TV is running and it is a good excuse for a human play date!
Twinkie from Boston appreciates you comments, especially about deflate-gate, which she has had to deal with for a very long time in her home. It can be absolutely shocking, like when your brother dog is the one deflating all the balls while you just want to chase them, but when people do it on television it’s just about boring crap that Twinkie has no time for. Twinkie slept with her back to the television on Superbowl Sunday. There were no snacks and not even a fancy hat, but she looked back over her shoulder to see that loud singer on the giant dog. That was cool.
We endure lots of deflate gate and destuff gate around here. At least Twinkie was hanging out with you…that is all a dog really needs.
