Last week I was barking about dog dental health since February is Dental Health Month. I realize all dogs are not going to be getting their teeth brushed, but another easy way to prevent dental disease and keep a dog’s teeth healthy, is to give a dog dental chews.
Your local PetsMart™ is an ideal place to shop for all your dog’s dental needs. They have a wide selection of dental chews – GREENIES®, Milk-Bone® Brushing Chews, WHIMZEES™, Authority®, to name just a few. Did you know over 80% of dogs in this country have some form of dental disease by the time they are three years old? If a dog doesn’t get its teeth cleaned, bacteria starts to build up in the mouth, and on the teeth causing tartar and plaque. If this is not removed it can start to damage the gums which can lead to teeth needing to be removed or in serious cases other health problems as serious as heart disease. PetMD has a nice article on the importance of proper dental care which is worth reading. It’s never too late to start caring for your dog’s teeth.
Recently, I headed over to my nearest PetsMart store to get some dental chews for my sisters and I. We all enjoy chomping on GREENIES. GREENIES not only fight the build up of tartar and plaque, they freshen our breath (making us more kissable) and help keep our teeth and gums healthy.
I found out GREENIES are available in many varieties such as Weight Management Dental Chews, GREENIES SENIOR® Dental Chews as well as the correct size for every dog, from TEENIE® to Jumbo. I sniffed out the entire selection before deciding which package to purchase.
My sisters and I enjoy our GREENIES in the evening when we are hanging out relaxing after a fun filled day, a sort of, bedtime snack. GREENIES are low in fat and are nutritionally complete for adult dogs. Interestingly, a 28 day study found dogs receiving one GREENIES Dental Chew per day averaged 60% less tartar, 33% less plaque, had 80% healthier gums! Amazing results!
What are you waiting for? Pack up your dog and head on over to PetsMart to get some GREENIES and start working on your dog’s dental health!
Sadly we can’t get them over here which is such a shame. Have a marvellous Monday.
Best wishes Molly
That is a real bummer, but you get other things we don’t get I guess.
My huskies just love Greenies! Another great way to fight all that yuck on teeth are antlers! Works wonders!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We’ve got antlers around the house. I gnaw them on occasion, but Bailie is an antler addict!
We get some yummi chewsticks to clean our teeth 🙂
There are some chewsticks out there that are really good.
Oscar hasn’t had the Greenies before – now he’ll have to try ’em!
We have them on and off. We kind of rotate treats in and out, and these are in our rotation.
This is Magic’s paws-down fave dental treat!
That’s great! We love chomping on them.
Dogs have superior oral care products than humans. I’m pretty jealous there are no human treats like dental chews.
Funny, now that you mention it, we’ve never really seen Mom gnawing on anything??? Strange!
We love Greenies, and the gang gets some form of dental chew a couple of times every day. Ellie doesn’t understand that she’s supposed to chew it – she’s in such a hurry that she chomps them into pieces she can swallow and then it’s gone – but it works great for the other doggies. We also use a dental gel.
Some of those gels are pretty good too! Katie is the one who doesn’t always chew and wants to swallow things.
Greenies are Grrrreat.
You’re rrrrrright!
Greenies are awesome! Thanks for sharing information about them. Dog dental health is really important 🙂
It is really important.
I can’t feed greenies because Delilah is such an inhaler. She doesn’t chew it, she bites chunks off and swallows them. LOL
Katie does that too sometimes.
Greenies are a staple around here! It’s a must have everyday at 4:00pm.
Now that is a routine.
Thanks for sharing the information. We do not have a PetSmart in our town, but we do have a PETCO. I will put “greenies” on the mom’s shopping list. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
They are good and make for good breath.
that is one thing Mom refuses to give us – have you ever seen what happens when you stick them in a glass of water -erk
No, haven’t tried that. We don’t eat them all the time, we rotate all our treats.
OOO! WE havent seen these before! Rolo loves the brand Greenies! They make his pillpockets for his medication.
I’ve also nominated your for the Liebster Award 🙂
To find out more about it check out our post on the Liebster Award for instructions 🙂

Thank you! They make them for cats too. Sometimes my kitties get them.
If you can get over the green poops, Greenies are great 😉
We love PetSafe chews too, but they make blue poo. Not sure what to think about it all, but we rotate our treats so we never have the same ones for long.
We love Petsmart and know that Greenies are a great product, I just wish I could have them. Great post Emma thanks! Love Dolly
We rotate all our treats and chews, so these come in a few times a year. We like them, sometimes Katie gulps them, but she does that with lots of snack items.
You look really interested in all of those Greenies on the shelf there 🙂 Shiner likes Greenies too!
Have you ever poked your head in with the packages? Amazing aromas back there!
A healthy snack that cleans your teeth too? Wow what a treat!
That is correct! Snacking and cleaning all in one!
We love Greenies and they come in such fun shapes!
And they make fresh breath.
Mama says we should own stock in Greenies….we have them autoshipped fro Chewy.com since our nearest PetSmart is 150 miles away…..*sigh*….we miss our PetSmart!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Yikes, that is a drive, but Chewy is awesome and it is perfect you have that option!
It sure looks like Greenies are a hit with you and your sisters. I’m glad you all take such good care of your teeth. It’s so important. Thanks for doing such a great job with this review. You did good!
Thank you. Dental health is one of our three things we are adamant about, so we are happy to be working with PetsMart and GREENIES on this.
None of this crew will eat anything slowly, so we haven’t tried these. They sound great though!
Katie and Bailie wolf everything down. I am a slow eater. I enjoy savoring everything.
I know two cats who eat Greenies like they’re going out of style! The owner actually has to hide the Greenies bag so they don’t overindulge! What a great write up for a great product.
Thank you. We have to put all out dog AND cat treats in drawers or cupboards because my cat bro Bert eats through the packaging if a bag is left out. He even ate through a cardboard box to get to a bag of dog food!
Greenies are awesome; Laika goes nuts for them. All the while I’m giggling to myself saying oh you silly girl – if only you knew WHY I bought those things. It’s no wonder they’re always such best sellers.
We love our heart worm tablets but if my sister Katie knew they were a form of medicine she probably would refuse to eat them! GREENIES are real good.
If I ever saw you shopping at PetSmart for Greenies, I would be ooohing and ahhing over the dogs. We have a great dental plan in place and are so glad to see you spreading the word. TY!
Dental health, seat belts and exercise are the three biggies at our house. Dental chews are just an extra way to care for our teeth.
We sure know how important tooth care is here!
It is for kitties too, and you do know that quite well.
That’s great that the Greenies are low fat! I wish they made them just a little bigger for the giant dogs! I’m afraid Leroy would try to swallow one whole!
Katie sometimes swallows them in chunks, but since she has gotten older, she isn’t quite as aggressive with gulping everything down.
Its good that there is a low-fat doggie diet version….since I am on a doggy diet (which is silly). Its good to know that one of my favorite pastimes is also good for my chompers!
Diet is a four letter word…try to get away from it! Go wild, exercise like a mad dog and maybe the word will disappear, but in the meantime, have a GREENIE.
I LOVE Greenies!!! 🙂
No wonder you have such fresh breath 😉
Greenies are my ALL TIME FAVORITE! They are pretty much the only dental bones that Mom buys for me. We live right next door to Petsmart (literally) and Mom and Dad often walk there to get them for me! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Does your kitty bro get them too? How cool to live right next to the store! We live a mile from the nearest small pet supply store, but next door would sure be handy.
Love the picture of your head trying to push the bag of Greenies into your cart. Look slike you know exactly what you need in order to keep your teeth healthy.
We are pretty good with our dental health. All those bags smelled so good, my nose was temporarily overwhelmed!
The dog daddy cuts Rita’s greenies in 4 hunks and she gets a hunk every morning as he leaves for work. She loves them!
Poor Rita. What is it with humans downsizing our stuff. They make it in one piece to be served in one piece…my dog thoughts on it. At least she gets some everyday 🙂
My Reya absolutely loves Greenies and they are a big part of our day. We just really need to get into brushing our teeth too!
Mom has been brushing dog teeth at bedtime for twenty years, so it is a real habit at our house. But the dental chews are a great way to supplement brushing.
My gang loves greenies!
It seems like dogs who love the outdoors would love GREENIES doesn’t it?
We just love the pictures of Emma shopping for her very OWN GREENIES!! We can tell just how much she enjoys picking out her own dental chews! My girls love GREENIES too!
Being a girl, I love to shop, and I got to shop alone with Mom, so I was real happy! GREENIES are great.
We don’t really feed any dental chews. I would much rather give the dogs a crunchy biscuit or even a hard antler. I worry about the digestibility of dental chews.
We brush our teeth every night, have antlers around all the time, and have a few dental chews a week, but we rotate the brands so we get each one a few times a year. Some of them Mom won’t buy because of the ingredients. We don’t do Nylabones as they get broken into pieces in a heartbeat at our house and then swallowed if Mom doesn’t find them in time. Those scare us.
I love how you balance that Greenies treat on your paws, & don’t grab for it, you’re so talented! Dental treats are so helpful, especially in between brushes or when you can’t brush at all!
Love & Biscuits,
Cathy, Isis & Phoebe
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
It is hard waiting, but I’ve learned I get the stuff if I wait patiently, and if I do it right away, I get the stuff much faster too!
We are greenie fans!
They are nice for snacking and teeth cleaning.
It’s great that you got to go shopping and supervise such an important purchase, Emma!
I love to go along and help choose stuff.
Hi Emma,
Glad you love your Greenies! We agree that an occassional dental chew plus rotating brands and teeth brushing are all good options for #dogdentalhealth !
You are right about that. We rotate everything for variety.
Love the blog post, and the pictures are too cute! Our dogs love Greenies too!
Thank you. GREENIES are great!
You knew exactly which one you wanted didn’t you cutie pie! Greenies are great to keep you healthy and happy!
I love to sniff out just the right package. You humans think they are the same, but I know better.
