I would like to introduce everyone to our straw wabbit today. We can’t believe he is still with us as he is fifteen years old! For the occasion, I wore my straw Easter hat. Mom got the wabbit in Switzerland when she was living on Lake Constance in Germany. They were not cheap, and were hard to find as they are all hand made. He is completely made of straw, which is held together with chicken wire. His eyes are made of felt, and his whiskers are some kind of corn husk. He moved around Germany with Mom and even across the Atlantic in a shipping container. He is a pretty cool wabbit with those big ears!
I don’t usually have colored photos, but I thought some of you might be interested to see how he looks in color. Lucky for us, he is house trained, but he always manages to leave a bit of straw behind when he moves. I feel like Gramma Walton in this silly hat, but Mom said it went well being straw.
Today IβmΒ joining the Black and White Sunday Blog Hop, sponsored by Dachshund Nola and Sugar the Golden Retriever. Remember to stop by and visit some of the other blogs on the hop to meet new friends!
Ooohhh we love the wabbit. Wish we had one too π
He is really cool!
We LOVE your straw wabbit Emma! π
Lots of Woofs from Earl, Ethel and I at Earl’s World!
Thanks. We think he is pretty special.
Your bunny friend is so cute, Emma! I’m glad you showed the color version…his yellow ribbon is very festive. We think you straw hat goes perfect as well.
Sometimes you can see things better in color even when b/w is kind of fun.
He is very cool!
Thanks. We think so too.
Very cool Wabbit! We know you like to chase them, so I too am shocked that he has lasted so long! Have a great Sunday!
He is more like family than a wabbit, so I don’t bother him.
He looks great. Have a serene and easy Sunday.
Best wishes Molly
He is a cool wabbit!
It’s great that this wabbit found the way over the big pond with you! Guess what? My mom bought a straw pig in switzerland too, it was from 1995 as she was in Schaffhausen. Sadly the pig went to the pink piggy ranch as a silvermistygrey wrecking ball entered that crib in 2009. btw: we have the same cardboard egg, think it’s as old as my momma :o)
I think the wabbit might be from Schaffhausen actually, can’t remember for sure. We are surprised cat bro Bert hasn’t attacked him! That egg is really old…old like my mom too.
That wabbit is pretty awesome Emma! And the two of you are so cute together! Have a great Sunday!
Thanks. We love having him around every Easter season.
He’s kind of scary looking to me Emma but if you and your mom love him… Love Dolly
He’s not really scary. He has a friendly face, and we get great reception with his ears!
That is a well-traveled wabbit! You look cute in your straw hat. β₯
We are a well traveled family.
OMD Emma that Wabbit is HOOOOOOGE and so very INTERESTING and LONG LASTING… not to mention… WELL TRAVELED. THANKS fur sharing him with us.
He is a special wabbit for sure!
Mr. Straw Rabbit is very neat! I can’t believe he’s so old! π
We figured he would last a couple years at best, but he keeps going.
Great photos Emma!! I wonder if there is a way to ever get Mr Wabbits ears repaired. He is wonderful. My mom said your mom would probably worry to hand him over to someone. Would have to be a very careful artist!!! Happy Sunday Emma!
Thanks. He is doing fine, so no need for repairs right now. We are learning, though, straw has a long lifespan!
Hi Y’all!
If I may make an observation…the only difference between his ears and yours are the position! Oh, yes, I guess they are straw…does make a difference doesn’t it?
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
LOL! His are about twice the length of mine. they are really long, and straw.
You look so tiny next to that cool rabbit.
I often come off looking tiny, but I’m not that small really. 40 lbs big.
What a darling photo! That straw wabbit has held up so nicely through all your moving. Also, he’s Huge, LOL!

That is totally pawesome!! Mom is in love with that wabbit and the photo and YOU! Barks and licks and love, Dakota
My mom is in love with the wabbit too. I know she loves me, but the wabbit is extra special this time of year.
What a cute wabbit!
Thanks.
Very cool rabbit! Have a great Sunday.
Every cool hound needs a cool wabbit I think.
That is one funny bunny!
LOL! You are a funny one!
Looks like he has traveled very well and has a lot more years left. That is very neat having a straw rabbit all the way from Germany:)
Not being a “country” girl, Mom has no idea how long straw lasts, but it appears to last a long time.
What a neat bunny. And well-traveled too. Don’t chase him, Emma!
We are not allowed to do anything to this wabbit. He is special.
I’m impressed that wabbit looks so good for his age and all the travelin’ he’s done.

We are surprised he is still it tip top condition.
OMD! Love the straw bunny!!!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We do too! Something unusual.
How utterly adorable! And I’d go to the Bodensee for a rabbit any day! π
I never got down there, Katie visited once, but Mom loved it and her dog at the time enjoyed it too. Beautiful area.
What a cool wabbit! And how good you all are not tearing him apart!
Oh no, we would never lay a paw on that wabbit. He is a family member.
You and your rabbit look like old friends. PS: I’d say Jessica Tandy before Gramma Walton LOL
Thanks! We love our unique wabbit.
Mowzers, he’s no tiny either! He’s furry unique, and we think you purrfectly complement him with your hat, too!
That is pretty neat!
Thanks. He is our special wabbit.
