It’s almost Easter, so we decided to do some Easter nose work searches for some variety in our homework! Bailie did the searches too, but I am the only one in the video. If Mom showed us both it would be way too long.
I had a tough time with the Easter egg search. I kept wanting to search things I normally search and not the eggs on the floor. The eggs in nose work would be considered containers, so it was a good exercise for me. Mom put the hides in certain colored eggs, the light pink and light green ones, so she could find them easily. Bailie got it right away, but she has her nose down more from tracking. The baskets were much more up my alley.
Note in the basket search, on the second hide:
- Mom asked me to keep searching as I was not specific enough the first time I tried to alert her.
- I mauled the pig looking for bacon.
- I went back and alerted at the first hide a second time. A hide only pays once, so Mom tells me “got it, find more”. I don’t want to learn to waste precious time going back to old hides.
- The last hide I had my nose on but didn’t smell the first time. Sometimes it helps to come back at a hide from a different direction. You can see how my head flicks as soon as I caught the odor.
Now for the video.

My favorite thing to do with my dogs is to snuggle with them, but as far as activities I love taking them on long walks or just playing with them in our yard.
Snuggling/loving is top of our list, but activities together are super fun too!
Girl and I love to take walks
Walking is wonderful and something you can do pretty much forever which is nice.
An Easter Egg search sounds like fun! Happy Fit Dog Friday!
I liked the baskets better, but the eggs were fun too.
Besides snuggling, our favorite activity are our walks!
Sound like the same way we feel at our house.
Our favorite activity are pool ball!
I will take the pool, you can keep the ball 🙂
An Easter egg hunt sounds pawsome but I will have to settle for hunting squirrels. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly
At least with nose work we know finding the hide pays. Those darn squirrels take so much time and never seem to pay off!
Happy 2nd, guys!
Looks like you have all the eggs one could want.
sumskersandearlskers13.blogspot.com
They are cheap and we needed a bunch for our hunt!
Oh that was the best egg hunt ever. what a brilliant idea! This year I found my easter basket with my nose too… I’ve got a giant bag of super smelly pigs ears…that was easy :o) Happy Fit Dog Anniversary and Good Luck to all pups!!!
I could find a bag of pigs ears in a jiffy too. Yum!
BowWow what a great job you did! Hopping by from the blog hop!
Kiki
A Happy Havanese
Thanks! New searches are always fun!
What fun! The egg hunt looks hard! When I was posing Freighter with some plastic eggs he kept trying to eat them. I am glad you did your work and did not try to eat the eggs Emma!
We have no desire to eat the plastic eggs, but I had a hard time realizing I needed to search through the eggs. Bailie got it right away, though.
Mom sets up and easter egg hunt for each year – I am a master egg cracker but the dweeb uses his paw and thwaps them open (he doesn’t open many 🙂
We aren’t supposed to open them as there are only swabs with odor in a couple of them. If we signal the ones with odor, we get a treat.
Schooner and Skipper love to play ball and catch me if you can! In the summer when our pool is open we swim laps everyday and float. I am going to try the egg game with my dogs because it sounds like fun. I hide little treats all over the house while I am at work to see if they can find all the treats. Yes they find everyone!
There are lots of treat loaded eggs searches for dogs this time of year, so I’m sure that would work. We had only the odor in a couple of the eggs and got rewarded when we signaled those eggs.
Oh my, Emma…that was a seriously interesting Easter Egg Hunt! All the eggs are right there but you have to find the one with something in it?!? That is brilliant and you did a fabulous job, if I do say so myself. I hope you, Bailie, Katie and your mom have a wonderful Easter!
Cairn cuddles,
Oz
I had a hard time figuring out the egg thing, but then I finally caught on. Eggs are just another form of container, so for me it became a container search. Happy Easter!
THis was a GRAND way to Practice… Very timely and EGGciting.
Variety keeps us interested and learning too.
Well it’s walking of course, since that is the only thing I seem to do with my dogs!
And entertaining them with your falls 😉 We always think Mom wants to play when she slips and falls.
y dogs favorite thing to do is get one of her bear bears (toy) and bring to me then I’ll count 1…2……3 or I’ll go 1…2….2…..2…….3 she goes on 3 only to get it,and bring it back. Outside of that she’s loves getting under her cover right beside me and nap or just lay by me. She’ll be 9 in June.
Sweet! Our three count is for sniffing. If we sniff to much Mom counts to three and then we have to move on.
That first photo is amazing, Emma looks so proud of her stash.
Who wouldn’t want a pile of eggs this time of year?
Looks like a fun time. I’m glad you didn’t try to eat the eggs, yuck.
We have no interest in eating plastic eggs. We did have to lock up Bert, though, as he was batting the eggs around the floor and that was not allowed.
Hiking through the woods! That’s our favorite activity!
and seeing critter racing around too I bet!
How fun! Luna went on an Easter Egg Hunt this week too. It is so much fun to watch her sniff out the eggs. I think we will start doing it more frequently as it is a great indoor activity. Typically we just go on walks or jogs when the weather is nice. Trick training is fun too!
There were only four eggs with odor in them, so it was a lot of eggs to search, but fun!
Oh looks like u had fun!!!
Good luck to everyone for this giveaway! It’s fantastic!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
It is an amazing giveaway! I love searching, and Easter searches add variety.
Your Easter pictures are killing me, they’re so cute. I should get some plastic eggs and do a nose work hunt with my pooches on Sunday… They might be single-use items. I think they’ll crunch down on them to crack them open.
Hmmm…we aren’t allowed to destroy search items, so our eggs were fine. We did have to lock up the cat, though as he was batting them all over the place! The odor was only in four of the eggs too, so most of them were quite boring!
Now that looks like a very challenging Easter Egg “hunt”!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
It was really hard for me, but I eventually got the hang of it.
Our favorite thing to do is take them for a hike and then they get to swim in the lake! They have a blast and so do we!
This looks like an awesome giveaway!
We would love that too, but we don’t get to swim much around here.
We did an Easter egg hunt, too! Mauja and Atka aren’t nearly as skilled in nose work, but they had fun. Our favorite thing is to go for a long, long walk followed by a snuggle on the couch 🙂
We only had the odor in four of the eggs, but I caught on after the first try and it was fun.
Dang, that was extra nose practice fun!
If you ever need a nose, give us a call!
What a fun idea to do Easter nose work! You did a great job, Emma. I don’t really have a lot of Easter stuff, but I’ll have to pick some up in the after holiday sales so I have it for next year. Right now I’m afraid Luke might try to eat the whole egg, but I hope he’ll outgrow wanting to eat everything at some point. 🙂
The eggs were less than a dollar for 24 with the holes already there. We don’t have food in them, just the odor we are searching for and we never try to eat that.
What a great giveaway! ANy dog would be lucky to win all that!
I have to agree it is pretty awesome!
Nice Easter themed nose-work! I bet you get extra points for being creative with your homework 🙂
Not really, but variety and new searches make it more fun.
what a fun easter egg hunt. have a happy easter and congrats on 2 years of fitdog friday hopping.
It was a lot of fun!
We love taking walks with our pawrents.
Millie & Walter
Walks are great, aren’t they?
I brought some plastic eggs home yesterday to practice with. Mr. N just started his nosework class. He saw a real bunny on his walk today!
Can’t wait to hear how his class goes! The eggs were tough for me at first as I didn’t see them as containers, but once I figured it out, it was fun. I love to see real wabbits. Bailie and I go wild!
I love running with Henri! I love snuggling with Henri! I love being with Henri! I wish I had a purse big enough that I could take him everywhere with me (and that he would like to be carried around in a purse)!
My mom wishes the same thing about me, but 38 lbs in a purse would be weird and give her back trouble!
Ralphy and I love to play zoomies and to snuggle!!!!
Zoomies are always so fun and snuggling is the best!
Since we are celebrating fit Fridays, I feel like I should say going for walks, but the truth is, I love snuggling with Theo and Nelly best.
We love all our activities too, but nothing beats good cuddling ad snuggling!
Great job Emma! You are such a smart and hard working girl!
I so adore searching. I get real mad when my turn is over and another dog gets to search!
I take my dog Leonard to an off leash park we have where we live and play fetch with him and bring bubbles and he chases them and we go for walks with his Daddy and Me on weekends (weather permitting).
Mom tried bubbles with us, but it didn’t work, no interest.
That looks like a great Easter Egg hunt… our activity right now is cat agility down the hallways ( I wonder how long before the cats will get bored with that though!)
Sounds like time to go shopping and bring home some new bags and boxes to play in!
Chasing after each other in the field and walks at the park
I love a good game of chase too.
We love to play lots of fetch and go walking in the park!
Good exercise!
Happy Anniversary and what a wonderfully generous way to celebrate!
Lots of good stuff! Fitness is so important, so we want everyone to keep fit!
My favorite thing to do with Hattie is go on long walks around the city and on the weekends play on the beach at our weekend home.
The beach at the weekend home sounds excellent!
Agility! But we are testing the water with nosework now
Nose work is an awesome mental activity. We love it and it wears us out!
