As you know it was Mother’s Day on Sunday, so Bailie and I volunteered to be kitchen helpers for Mom. We went out to Gramma’s house for brunch. Mom was doing the cooking, and we figured the least we could do would be to help out. The work was exhausting, and after a while, I crashed out!
Gramma loves it when Mom makes eggs benedict and asparagus with Hollandaise sauce, so that was our menu. Green asparagus always needs to be nicely washed in cold water, so I helped out by making sure it was getting appropriately cleaned.
Once it was cleaned, snapped off, and peeled, it goes in the asparagus pot. Living in Germany for ten years Mom learned about cooking several different things, one of them being asparagus. It really is a fine art if you do it right. Whenever she makes it, people love it.
Next up, checking on the toasted English muffins and making sure the Canadian bacon is on each one.
Bailie was one of the kitchen helpers, but she wasn’t a real good helper. She did show up when she smelled the Canadian bacon, imagine that!
We got it all put together and served it up. Can you believe Mom did not even offer me any? I got to sniff the plate after some had been eaten, and I have to say, I sure wanted to steal it all. Yummy!
Bailie claimed she was worn out. She really didn’t help much, but I think all her mischief on our walk earlier had taken its toll.
Come to think of it, I’m pretty tired out myself. I think a nap is in order. Being kitchen helpers is a tough job, especially when you don’t even get to eat what you help make!
Don’t forget! It’s still not to late to enter to win the Solvit PupSTEP Wood Stairs! Simply click here or on the photo to get to my post with the entry widget! Contest ends at midnight Wednesday, May 13th.
I am joining the Monday Mischief blog hop brought to you by Alfie’s Blog, Snoopy’s Dog Blog, My Brown Newfies.
Nice work! Though I think maybe you should have had just a tiny taste. Hope your mom and grandma had a super Mother’s Day.
Usually Mom puts some Hollandaise on our dog food but we had already eaten. Bummer.
oh my gosh that looks fabulous, love asparagus
Mom and Gramma said it was real tasty.
I think it was rude that you did not get to taste anything that you helped cook. I would go on on strike and not help next time unless you are promised a treat!
We did get some treats as it was Gramma’s house, but still…some eggs benedict would have been nice.
now that was a wonderful breakfast – you did good for your mom 🙂
I think she owes me one!
Wow! I sure could have used you around here yesterday! No one cooked for me!
What? Well, I guess Dakota being a boy may not be into cooking. He could have walked you to McDonalds or something I would think.
you prepared the muffin with CANADIAN BACON and you tried not one little piece of that delicious bacon?… that must be love…. absolutely :o)
I know how to behave like a lady…sometimes 😉
Wow, you two are about the most adorable chefs ever! Love those hats. I like to help in the kitchen…anything that falls to the floor is mine. No mopping required. BOL Holy moly that breakfast looks delish. I’d skip the greenies but the bacon is a favorite.
Grr and Woof,
Sarge, Police Commish
I would like to lick the sauce off the green stuff! We do keep the floors clean too.
WOW! OMD! Did you even get to lick the plates after all your hard work and beautiful pawtography? XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
No, didn’t get a taste of anything, real bummer! We did get dog treats, though.
Hope you got to be taste testers too
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
Sadly we did not get any tasting work this time.
What good helpers! My dogs say that if you help cook you should also get to taste, and Topper says you’re very pretty in that pink little apron and hat. 🙂
Usually I do taste everything, but this time something went wrong and before I knew it, the food was gone and I hadn’t even tried it!
Aww you are such fabulous helpers!!!!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I love to help my mom if I can.
A worn out Bailie is the best gift of all!
She works hard and plays hard!
Ladies you did an outstanding job in the kitchen. Male Doodles (at least mine) are not that handy in the kitchen. They are clumsy and have a tendency to eat the products BEFORE I can cook them.
Bailie would sample if she got the chance, but I’m responsible.
Looks pretty yummy! I bet mom enjoyed.
Mom and Gramma ate it all, no leftovers!
What a happy helper! Good work, Emma, you earned that nap! That Bailie… she really is a baby sister… so silly in so many ways. Your doodle friend Dash
Bailie is a true baby, but we do love her.
Ahhh. You both look so helpful around the kitchen with chores. Surely you can forgive Bailie for being so tempted by the food? Earl knows the feeling Emma, he has a little sister in Ethel, who is, in a lot of ways, similar to your Bailie.

The young ones have so much nonsense in their minds!
You are such a great chef Emma…have you considered going on Master Chef?
When they finally open it up to dogs, I’m there! You are in CA, don’t you have Hollywood connections?
What a yummy meal. Happy Mother’s Day!
I hear it was good…didn’t get any of it myself!
Yum! That looked delicious!! Happy Mother’s Day 🙂
They said it was awesome. I wish I could have shared in the deliciousness!
If you cooked it then it has to be yum!
True, my paws normally only make tasty stuff.
That’s so nice of you to be helpful! I bet your mom appreciated it! 😀
She loves it when I help. I’m always such a helpful girl.
Mr. N rarely goes into the kitchen, I don’t even know if he could operate the microwave! I guess he needs some cooking lessons from you, Emma.
He is pretty short, so it might be a bit more difficult for him to cook. Does he climb a ladder?
You girls are such great helpers, and what a nice thing to do for Mother’s Day. Luke is not allowed in the kitchen because he would not hold back politely like you do!
Boys, they are so wild! Cat bro Bert is the same way, right into the food if he gets the chance. We girls are a bit more reserved.
We had crabcakes eggs benedict here – da peeps said it wuz tasty!
Oh boy, that sounds good too.
Wow! That looks divine! You girls really know how to put on a spread! ♥
We love to eat and we love to cook 😉 It would have been perfect along with all the grilled stuff your mom got.
That’s the way to go ~ gotta help out mom on Mother’s Day, even if it is 100% selfless and means you won’t get to taste what you helped create 😉
Any other day, I would have been pretty steamed, but since it was Mom’s Day and we got dog cookies, it was alright.
It so hard to get good help! But it’s probably even harder to get such CUTE help! (Eggs Benedict is Rita’s grandma’s favorite breakfast too!)
Mom and Gramma both love it and they love asparagus too.
Eggs Benedict is my favorite and that’s what I had on Mother’s Day too!
Pawsome! We usually get some, but not this time.
Supervising and quality control can be such tiring work, what a dedicated helper you are!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
I just like to keep my mom happy.
Oh Emma! Don’t you know how helpful I am in the kitchen?!?! I offer to help every single time I know there is food in there. I like to help put things away (in my tummy) and taste things! Really! Mommy doesn’t even have to ask. Sometimes she says that “No” word, so I know that’s how she tells me I’m good at it!!
Bruin
We like to keep the floors clean too.
Awww man, you didn’t even get one little taste? All that work for nuthin! LOL
I know, terrible! Oh well, it was Mom’s Day, so I let it slide.
I sure wish I could help in the kitchen like that! Love Dolly
I’m a really good helper dog!
What good helpers you girls are! I bet Mom loved the extra love “hair” that no doubt ended up in her food 🙂
Food without fur has no flair!
It seems like making a lot of vegetables really yummy is an art! I’ve mastered a couple of them, but not all yet. You are making me want to try your mom’s asparagus now… I usually bake mine in the oven with olive oil and then some parmesan on top when it’s almost done.
Mom does that sometimes too, but cooking it standing in an asparagus pan is the “proper” way according to German asparagus culture.
You pups have the best chef’s outfits! I dropped a piece of asparagus the other day. Leo picked it up… then spit it out.
I haven’t actually tried the asparagus, but I do love hollandaise!
As a fellow German, I know no one does asparagus like the Germans–they know how to do it right! Well done, Emma. Love both of your hats and aprons. Way too adorable. 🙂
The white asparagus is so hard to find here, but green is good as well. We miss the fresh road side asparagus stands in Germany this time of year!
Me too. 🙁
It was nice of you to help in the kitchen. You look exhasuted at the end.
I was worn out.
