Last month, I was contacted by emmi-pet to see if I would be interested in reviewing their oral hygiene brush system. My sisters and I have great teeth and have been brushing them every night before bed since we were tiny pups. I will admit I was a bit skeptical, but agreed to give it a try.
I got my starter kit which includes:
- a handpiece with rechargeable battery
- a large ultrasonic brush head for larger dogs
- a small ultrasonic brush head for smaller dogs
- a charging station
- a tube of special ultrasonic toothpaste for pets
After reading the directions, I realized the first thing I had to do was to put a brush head on the handpiece, make sure the unit was turned off and put it on the charger for a full 24 hours to charge. Since I was excited to try it out, I put it on the charger right away.
While the unit was charging I had time to study up on how this thing really works and how to best use it on my chompers. How does emmi-pet work? It uses ultrasound! There is no vibration or noise, so it is not at all scary for us dogs. The ultrasound combined with the special toothpaste produces billions of microscopic nano-bubbles which implode to clean surfaces and kill bacteria. The ultrasound reaches deep below the gum line to kill germs and bacteria while increasing blood flow to the gums.
- It combats gingivitis and periodontitis
- Fights oral cavity diseases
- Prevents and removes tartar and plaque build up
- Eliminates nasty dog breath
Did you know that by age two, eighty percent of dogs have some form of oral disease? Although we brush daily, after many years, plaque and tartar start to slowly build up. Our vet says we don’t need to have our teeth cleaned, but they are not as pearly white as they once were. Heavens, my mom brushes her teeth all the time but still has to go to the dentist for cleaning twice a year, so imagine what is going on in a dog’s mouth! I’ve been using the emmi-pet for three weeks, and you can see in the above photo how my teeth are already getting cleaner! After just one week of use, none of us had any breath issues at all anymore which makes us all the more kissable!
How do you use emmi-pet? If your dog already brushes, it is an easy transition. If not, you will need to let them get used to the toothbrush and having it in their mouth. We use ours every night now, but the directions say a minimum of one to two times a week. Start by wetting the brush head and applying a small amount of toothpaste to the brush. The instructions suggest putting the toothpaste on the teeth, but it didn’t work for us as we love the flavor and licked it off too fast.
Turn the toothbrush on, it will illuminate green.
Open your pup’s mouth and hold the brush gently against his tooth or small group of teeth for five to ten seconds, then move to the next tooth or group. We reapply tooth paste after each 1/4 of the mouth is done.
You will need to move the brush to different angles to get all the tooth areas. Remember never to brush as it ruins the special ultrasonic bristles!
When you are all finished, leave the unit on and rinse off the brush under running water. The special bristles will sterilize themselves. At a price of $199, it may seem expensive, but when you check the price of getting a dog’s teeth cleaned at the vet, it is a bargain, not to mention being easy to use, and much less dangerous for your dog. We are in love with emmi-pet!
Take a gander at the short video to see me in action getting my chompers polished with my emmi-pet! A few points to take note of:
- a charged battery lasts up to a month with daily use of three to six minutes
- you must use the special toothpaste for the system to work, it is super tasty, kind of a banana flavor, and can be ordered online
- brush heads need to be replaced about every three months as the bristles start to weaken from the ultrasound and are not as effective, brush heads for pets are the same ones used on the human version, emmi-dent

What a wonderful brush! I need Sparkling teeth. I am in it to win it! I like the name “Emmi”-dent. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
It is almost named after me! The toothpaste is so tasty and the whole thing is so easy! My mom is thinking of getting the human version for herself because we are so impressed!
We SO need this here. I have been trying to brush Daisy’s teeth with a regular toothbrush, but this one looks much easier to use because it already has the motion so I can focus on lifting her lips and jowls. Hope we win!
Honestly, there is no motion, nothing. The green light tells us it is on, and the only sign we have it is actually doing something would be the results, bad breath totally gone, plaque disappearing. The toothpaste is yummy, even wild Bailie has settled down and lets Mom hold the brush to her teeth and gums.
it does sound good but yikes – $199….there are not many people who can afford that no matter how much they love their doggies.
But, in the end, it makes such a difference in our mouths and for those who never brush, it will save them from expensive tooth cleaning which is much more than $199.
that was a super review! I always pondered about this tooth brush, but I’m not sure if it works with Easy, we failed with the Sonicare (maybe because it’s made for humans?) so I have no clue if I should give it a try :o)
Es kommt aus deutschland…also muss gut sein! It it like holding a plain old manual toothbrush with tasty toothpaste against your teeth. Mom has no clue it is working because there is only the green light, but after a week, there was already an amazing difference! We were skeptical, but are totally in love with it!
That looks pretty good. I brush Torreys teeth, but I can see how that would be even better.
We’ve all brushed since day 1, but after years and years, plaque does build up, but it is going away now and the sure sign it does something is the change in our breath. Not that we had bad breath, but it is totally good breath all the time now which means something was in our mouths that didn’t belong, but it is gone now.
Looks like this would help our fight against tooth decay nicely! Not sure how Harley would react to the sound of the brush, but I imagine he could get used to it. I’m going to enter. Yippee.
There is no sound! The only way Mom knows it is on is the green light, and the fact that we noticed changes in our breath and teeth. If you can hold a regular manual toothbrush to his teeth, this is the same feeling, but it is actually doing something.
I’ve gone my whole life without any dental problems–I see my 6 month check ups as self-esteem boosters, so I want Barley to be able to feel the same way at her vet visits (although our vet does offer great dental health deals during dental health awareness month that are comparable to the brush price). It sounds like the emmi-pet would make that even easier, though, and help keep us from needing multiple vet cleanings π
Anesthesia is always good to avoid, and this is really doing a great job on our teeth. We are excited to see what the vet says when we go in this fall! I’m sure it would work awesome with Barley.
Oh I am loving this product! I can’t enter the giveaway as I am in Canada, but I will be looking into this regardless!!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I know, every time I hold a giveaway US only I feel for you. It is truly an awesome product! Mom is considering getting the human version for herself because it is such a great product.
Mom loves brushing our teeth! This will help her torture us
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
If you already brush, this will be awesome for you! No brushing, just hold it to your teeth and it does the work without you even knowing since is makes no noise or movements.
Very cool Emma – it looks just like my electric toothbrush – hope your mom doesn’t get confused one morning and use it instead of her own!
The difference is big because this one makes no noise or movements. We absolutely love it and the toothpaste is awesome!
Gotta keep that smile looking pretty! At this rate I think you’ll be the covergirl for the next run of the product.
Now that would be nice. It is a German made product and I can bark and howl in German having lived there, so you may be onto something.
THIS is all very interesting and exciting…. WE brush OFTEN…. and we have this stuffs (which we don’t really like much… called PlaqClnz that we use on our teefs….
You are SO right about the COST of ONE Cleaning…. PLUS we gotta be asleep to do it…. and that is not always Pawsible fur some of us… THANKS fur the info Emma.
You are welcome. We brush daily and have tried the plaque stuff too, but this is so much better. We found our system!
That sounds great and your teeth do look whiter.
It takes a while to get it all off, but it is happening.
That is really pretty cool! We’re still not good about brushing here…this sure looks like it would make it easier to really get into an effective routine.
It is easy and we love it even more than brushing!
OMD! I really need this for my pearly whites! It will help get to those pesky back teeth!
It is awesome, and you will love the toothpaste too!
It sure looks like it might be easier than actually brushing the teeth.
Not only easier, but better too. We are in love with the emmi-pet!
The results are outstanding. Thank you for sharing this innovative product.
It really is amazing. It makes our regular daily teeth brushing routine seem silly. Great invention!
Love the idea especially as Madam does not like having her teeth cleaned and as a Rescue she arrived with not the best teeth although 4 years later they are pearly white with lots of work π
Teeth cleaning is not cheap and anesthesia is never a good thing. We hope this will seal the deal on never needing a formal cleaning.
What a great invention! I know Trev would LOVE this…Emma, you are looking as gorgeous as ever…Such a great giveaway!!!! Have a fabulous day!!!!
If a pup can tolerate a standard toothbrush, this is a snap, and the toothpaste is just icing on the cake. Wonderful tool.
Oh that is really cool.I had no idea such a thing existed. Great review!
We had never heard of it before either and were real skeptical, but we are huge fans now!
Dang, you actually make that look fun!
It is fun, not a big deal at all. Mom is even thinking of trying it on the kitties since it works on cats too with the smaller brush heads.
That looks like a great toothbrush. Thanks for the review.
We are truly amazed. We didn’t expect much, but it is so awesome.
What a great review…we would have been with you and thought regular brushing would be enough. Looks like this product brings it to the next (better) level!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
It really does! Since my teeth are eight, stuff has been building for all eight years, so it has taken a couple weeks to start coming off, but this fourth week is really making a huge difference. The awesome breath started the first week.
I currently have four rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds (down from five as I lost my sweet deaf hound girl, Ran, three weeks ago). One thing about my pack. NONE of them likes getting their teeth brushed, and with as many dogs as I have, it can be hard to do a good job brushing their teeth as often as I would like to. This would really help.
It is so simple, and we love it. We always have liked getting our teeth brushed, but this is even better!
what a great review, I would like to win this so I can keep up with gamblers brushing.
It is amazing, never thought we would be real impressed, but we are. No more “brushing”, just hold it in place on the teeth. Love it!
i really want this, i have 3 little girls and this would be great since i have to brush their teeth everyday, it would be great b/c would be able to get under the gum line and the very back teeth.
All three of us girls just love it! Since Katie and I are a bit older, it has taken a couple weeks for the tartar to really break down, but it is happening, and the breath was changed right away. We love it and it is so easy to use.
