It’s the fifth season here in Minnesota. Some may call it lilac time, but at our house is seems like its own season with the human going wild about all the smells. I think they make a pretty backdrop for a photo, but that is about it. I decided to take my Sunday Selfie with one of our lilac bushes.
This fifth season really causes issues at our house. Mom is constantly stopping to sniff the lilacs. Does anyone have any training tips to keep her from doing this? It really messes up our walks and our sniffing of the important stuff like critters! I’ve tried sniffing these lilac flowers many times, and honestly, I don’t see the point. Talk about a boring aroma! Sniff a squirrel or wabbit track, now that is exciting and worth the trouble. The good news is the fifth season only lasts a few weeks at best and we are almost done!
Iβm joining the Sunday Selfies Blog Hop hosted by, kind of embarrassing, a big bunch of cats at The Cat On My Head. If you want to give a selfie a try, join in the hop, or see how good or bad other selfies are to help you get the guts to try it yourself! I sure hope some other dogs join me today or I will be alone with the felines!
We are in IL so we kind of have a fifth season, too. And my assistant is practically smelling the computer screen to get at those lilacs!
What is it that humans find so swell about that smell? It doesn’t stink like anything interesting at all!
Oh, you have lilacs, you are so lucky! OK, I guess I should say your Mom is so lucky. We don’t have lilacs yet but the apple trees are starting to blossom so I’ve been sniffing those (and the dogs didn’t appreciate me leaving their ball game to go outside the pen to smell the blossoms either).
The last week or two everything is blooming around here and Mom is a human scent hound. Frustrates the heck out of Bailie and me!
Emma, our mom is the same way! She says the air smells so sweet now. That’s a great selfie of you.
Oh man! On the windy days it is sooo bad. She just wants to stand in one place and inhale.
When you live in New York all you get to smell is rodents. You would be in doggie heaven. Come visit!
Now that would be something to smell. Mom only remembers smelling pee in the subway system which she says she didn’t appreciate. Rodents would be good.
Cute lilac selfie π
Thank you.
Come on Emma play fair – your Mom allows you to sniff the mailbox poles, allow her to sniff a few lilacs! After all the fifth season won’t last but so long LOL
I know, but we want her to smell fun stuff, lilacs are sooo very boring!
Emma you are beautiful!
Thank you π
Oh we thought it was allergy season! You are lucky to have so many seasons, in Chicago we only have two: construction and winter! Love Dolly
We have construction season as well, but this year, it is all in the western and northern suburbs. We went through that mess a few years ago.
We don’t blame your mom for getting so excited about those lilacs! They sure are pretty!!! We imagine they smell even better!
They do really smell, far and wide, but I find a critter smell much nicer.
Beautiful lilacs
Woof,
Lily & Edward
My mom just loves them, especially the the lilac colored ones.
What beautiful lilacs and your photos are stunning!
Great Selfies!
Annabelle,Ping,Boo,and Mr Jinx
Thank you. I guess I look good with lilacs.
If you get any good Mama training tips let us know…between her sniffing and taking pictures we never get any good sniffing done!
Smileys!

Oh, I hear you! It’s always something with the parental units!
WOW! I didn’t know y’all had a whiffie season!
We sure do, and we really have one when the wind comes from the south past the cattle herds π
I can only imagine how wonderful they must smell! β₯
Mom loves them, they smell up the air all over the place, but not to worry, I can still smell the important stuff.
You looks so pretty there with all the flowers.
Purrs xx
Athena and Marie
Thank you. They are great for photos.
Mom would love the smell of lilacs – she just bought her first gardenia for our new house π
I don’t see what the big deal is, but humans love it.
That’s a lovely selfie with the lilacs.
Thank you. I can make flowers look nice π
LOL! I love lilacs, too! They smell amazing! π
I prefer the scent of a squirrel, but Mom sure is all over the lilac smell.
OMD; you must teach mine how to take such amazing selfies (sorry E n E!) Mine enjoy taking and specialise in silly selfies. These ones of you are just plain gorgeous.

Sometimes a dog gets lucky I guess. It is hard work.
Great selfie. I really like the lilac bushes for our background. I sure bet they smell wonderful. Great photos!
Thank you. The lilacs are real pretty.
You did a good job on the sniffing lilac Selfies, Emma, they look great π Pawkisses for an Easy Sunday π <3
Thank you. They make for pretty photos.
The only thing that PERFUMES the air like LILACS is Honeysuckle…. Love them both…
We have some of that too. Mom is in sniff heaven!
Great selfies and beautiful flowers. We are seeing them a lot in the blogosphere but mom says she hasn’t seen any around here.
That is a bummer. Around here, they are on every corner for a couple weeks.
My Mom just LOVES lilacs and wishes there were bushes where we live. They smell delightful!
I can’t believe you don’t have any. Mom can’t remember from her time living in the Detroit area, but it seems like you should have some!
Our mom is like your mom. She thinks lilacs smell heavenly and that they are quite beautiful as well. We agree with you, critters are better. You and the lilacs together make for gorgeous photos. Thanks so much for being part of our Sunday Selfies Blog Hop. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
We love your hop, it’s always fun!
You look so pretty next to the lilacs!
Thank you!
Our mom is obsessed with little white flowers she calls Jasmine–they’re everywhere over here in Florida, like your Lilacs! And we agree. There is nothing interest about flowers–unless another dog has peed on them before you got there.
Very true, but most of these are too high up to get peed on!
Nothing better than lilac season π We were on the same wavelength this weekend, weren’t we?
Sure are…and they say cats and dogs are so different…I think not!
I dunno, since I are always tryin to get my momma to stop MORE on our walks.
I like to stop, but to sniff the “good stuff”, not some flowers.
Oh, Emma, you are so fortunate to have lilacs to sniff. Here in Texas our flowers grow on cactus & they don’t have a pretty smell like lilacs!
Cactus are painful if you try to sniff them. Do be careful!
Lilacs are one of my favorites!
My mom too.
Those lilacs are gorgeous! Lucky you.
Thank you.
MOL! Our fifth season was SHORT this year and (thankfully for US at least) now it’s over….
Ours is the usual couple of weeks. It is on the way out now.
I don’t blame your mom. I love the smell of lilacs. I wish there were more around here.
She is nuts about them.
There is something quite magical about blooming lilacs. I think Sam enjoys them almost as much as me. π
I find them a bit boring, but nice for photos.
Oh but they smell soooooo good! π
I find them boring, but humans love them.
I love lilacs. I would do exactly the same thing as your mom. Unfortunately, we don’t have lilacs in Florida =( Loved seeing your pictures!
Now that is sad. They are pretty, and Mom really loves them.
Our lilac tree out front has just got to full bloom. I LOVE them! I just wish they stayed bloomed for longer!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
My mom says it is a bummer all the trees flower at the same time in the spring and then it is done for a year. Too bad most of them don’t keep their blooms.
I didn’t know you had a fifth season. How nice! Maybe if you gave mom a kiss every time she passed a lilac without sniffing it, you’d pawsitively train her not to stop!
Now that is the best idea I have heard. I may need to try that!
Oh, Emma, the mom says you have to let your human “stop and smell the lilacs!” They do funny things like that. I am amazed they do not smell each others butts which is so very proper in our world! XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Mom butt sniffing. Odd!
