It’s time to see if pets have lost weight on the 10 Week Turnaround challenge with Hill’s® Science Diet® Perfect Weight food. You may recall, in my previous three posts I listed the three main components to successful dog weight loss and maintanence: determine your dog’s ideal weight, set up a routine, stay consistent. It is important to follow these steps if you want your dog to lose weight.
According to statistics, 70% of dogs and cats using Science Diet Perfect Weight food lost weight in 10 weeks. Hill’s Science Diet recently introduced Small and Toy breed specific formulas to help smaller dogs achieve a healthy weight!
50% of pets in the USA are considered overweight pets. This is a very sad statistic! Losing weight isn’t easy, but Science Diet Perfect Weight food makes it easier for pets and pet parents. Overweight pets lose their quality of life, not to mention it shortens their life spans and increases the risk of many diseases.
I’d like you to meet Zero, a fellow blogger who took on the 10 Week Turnaround Challenge and won! This is a quote directly from his post about his weight loss journey:
Ten Weeks ago I had a couch potato named Zero. She barely moved off the couch other than to eat and go potty. Ten weeks ago I feared that Zero’s weight would get the best of her. Today, ten weeks later, I have my silly girl back. My Zero, who tosses her toy box in search of her favorite pink pony, will drag her bowl across the kitchen to remind you it’s meal time, and runs around the yard playing with Dylan. She may not be down the whole 20LBS that she was overweight by, but Zero has definitely lost weight. How much weight you wonder? 6LBS!!. While that may not seem like a lot, to a dog of her size it is a great deal!
Congratulations, and thank you to Zero for the photos I used in the above graphic, and for letting me borrow a few of your words. You can read Zero’s complete 10 Week Turnaround account by clicking here.

Great to know that they have added a food specifically for toy breeds. Little guys do have their own set of weight loss issues. Great post about an important issue!
Thanks. We don’t know much about small dogs, but I’m sure it is different for them when it comes to eating.
Good job Zero. That is impressive weight loss.
She is on her way.
the other thing we would suggest – get your vet to give you an ideal weight – don’t look at breed pedigree charts as they are based on a specific side and if your dog is bigger or smaller than the weight needs to be adjusted accordingly. – Example is shelties – there height size is 13-15 inches where as Reilly is 19 inches tall so the weight for a 15 inch sheltie would be wrong for him.
We don’t go by breed standards either. We go by how we look and feel. Our vet always says we are in great shape, and weigh ins now and then make sure we are holding steady.
Congratulations to Zero! That’s impressive. Weight loss is tough for everyone. So far, we’re doing okay with weight (well the Boys are!), Harley has been able to maintain his svelte figure quite consistently. I’m sure having Jax around is also helping. Nicely done Emma.
The best thing is to never pack on the pounds, but if you do, a good food can really help.
Thanks for a great post about such an important topic… we can’t avoid all bad things, but to avoid overweight is a thingy we can manage…. with the right food and some patience…
I know you enjoy diets, Easy 🙂 At least this food will help a pup feel full while taking in less calories.
Good job. We hear a lot of good things about Science diet
Woof,
Lily & Edward
The Perfect Weight food seems to be really good.
Congrats to Zero. We love reading about this effort and hope that lots of dog owners participated!
As you know, we are all about staying fit, and being the right weight is part of that.
Good Job Zero… We admit that WE are a TAD on the Chubby side….
Uh oh…more squirrel chasing could help you out!
With Penny’s recovery, our routine is in shambles. So not only have we cut back on activity, we’ve also cut back on food. Neither of which the pups are thrilled about, but we have to keep those bodies beach ready.
Time will be up soon and you will all be back on your schedule and eating like animals once again.
Love your expression in that first photo, Emma. You look as though you’re exclaiming: “And why would you ever allow your pet to become overweight?”. Cute.

You pretty much sum up how I feel. Especially since we dogs can’t usually feed ourselves, it should be even easier to stay at the right weight.
There sure is some smartt for out there these days!
What great news for Zero! It is true that we can’t control everything to do with our pet’s health, but weight is the one thing we can and should pay close attention to. It effects so many other things. It’s also good to know that this food is out there for when extra help is needed for a pet to get back to a healthy weight.
It seems like it works great, but we aren’t overweight, so we haven’t tried it.
Congrats Zero!! Love success stories!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
She is on her way to the perfect weight!
Great post! Zero is working hard to be healthy! With all of this encouragement he is sure to meet his goal!
We sure hope so!
Way to go Zero, nice job!
Zero really scored with the weight loss.
She is on her way to getting to the perfect weight!
Aspen is active enough that he burns off everything he eats and in the heat Mica has been skipping meals (going to have to get vet check) so she has been staying her correct weight. But we always keep an eye on weight, especially for the joints.
Katie isn’t big on eating these days, Bailie is like Aspen and burns calories behaving like a mad women all the time! I hold my own. We always try to stay at the same poundage.
Go Zero!!!!
What great information Emma….thanks so much for sharing it!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Thanks!
Even a couple of extra pounds makes a difference in our pets’ lives. They’ll live longer and better lives being slimmer (just like us). 🙂
Exactly! Healthy teams of pets and people!
