Black is not a color we have much of at our house. We prefer bright cheerful colors, and I don’t think Mom even owns any solid black clothing. Mom does like black cats and dogs, but right now we don’t have any of those either. The lack of this color made the week 33 challenge for the word “black” tough. I decided on using our noses for this week. Bailie has a seriously black nose, so she is the photo for the photo challenge.
I had a seriously black nose as a youngster, but for some reason, over the years it has faded out a bit and there is a bit of pink creeping into it as well.
Katie had a jet black nose as a puppy, but the past few years it has really changed color, and now she has more of a pink and black nose. No one seems to know what causes the noses of many dogs to change color over the years. All we know for sure is, it happens, so is black still black, or do we need to find a new color to describe our noses?
My friends at The Lazy Pitbull had the idea for theΒ #PBSG and #52Snapshots of Life photo challenge. The linky for the current week will be posted on Friday mornings. Be sure to see what other blogs come up with for the word of the week!
Even though some have faded a bit, I would say your noses are all still black…lol.
Katie’s is almost a polka dog look.
maybe the sun fades them over time – who nose for sure π π
As long as I can sniff properly, I’m not too concerned.
They are all cute noses!
Thank you.
Bailie WINS the biggest, blackest nose contest! We all (except the mom) have black noses, but Maggie (who is now playing at the Rainbow Bridge with Panda) always had some pink in her nose. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Ours were all jet black but have changed. We will see if Bailie keeps her color or not.
Black is beautiful… and your noses looks like that black koh-i-nor diamond and they are precious in all ways :o)
The Wein should nose. What color is yours?
I’m a brown-noser said my dad… and he laughed… butt I don’t know why…
LOL!
Jack’s nose is like Katie’s too…
I’m living in fear mine might go pink too.
Intresting. I knew dogs could lose pigmentation in their noses but I never knew it was a function of age. Time to do some research on why that is.
We don’t know if it is from age, from sunlight, we really haven’t been able to tell. Katie was on the beach on the North Sea a lot until she was 5 with lots of sun, maybe that started it. We really don’t know but our noses are fading.
My nose was pink when mom got me. Now it’s black. Your nose is very cute
Lily (& Edward)
LOL, the opposite is happening with us.
Oh, I love it….great close up shots, and good thinking on this one! You had me wondering about the dog’s nose color changing. I know Sheba’s is more pink now, but Cricket’s is still completely black so it’s not just an aging thing. Luke’s is still completely black too, but no surprise there since he’s still so young. I wonder what you would call that color…it looks kind of like a mottled pink/black, especially on Katie.
We don’t know if it is age related, breed related, time in sun, no clue but we do find it interesting.
Those pinkish black noses probably look pretty black from a distance.
You were creative to use noses to meet the photo challenge.
BTW, I also love bright colors. But I read a decorating magazine that said every room should have one black object to make the rest of the colors pop. I did it in lots of the rooms of the house and it seemed to work.
But it also become a horrible host for fluffy golden fur. Gee, I wonder how that happened?
I wonder if the tv remote counts for black in the living room? We have more dark brown, but not much black here. At first glance we all have black noses but when one takes a good look, the pink makes itself visible.
We both have black noses but my brother, Tucker’s nose had some pink on it as he got older just like Katie’s.
Mom has tried to find out why some noses do turn a bit pink but can’t find any definite answers. As long as I can smell what I need to, I don’t mind.
Looks black to me! Not a hint of dark navy in sight. Maybe a little burgundy blush?
Purrs,
Seville
I think the burgundy blush is what is making an appearance!
I think you handled that challenge incredibly well because these photos are BRILLIANT!!!!
Thank you. Black is tough for us, but we found some.
Oh I love you nose pics!!! hahahaha no pun intended! I need a better camera, mine will not let me get a close up like that one!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Mom used her macro filters to get those so that all the pores and stuff show. She is always playing around with different lenses and settings. Sometimes it works.
I wonder if it’s just pigment loss from age? It seems Katie’s is pinker than yours, but she is also quite a bit older, no?
We really don’t know. Google doesn’t have a definitive answer either. Some say it is lack of sunlight, but Katie’s nose starting “pinking” at 5 when she was on the beach every day, so we aren’t sure about that option. Some say the pink comes and goes, but we haven’t seen that happen either. It is a true nose mystery.
I have another question for you – is black still black when it’s really shiny like Bailie’s nose?
I bet your mom banished black clothes soon after Katie moved in!
We think Bailie has a shoe polish stash somewhere she uses to shine up her nose every morning! Mom has never been a black fan, but she did have some black pants pre Katie. She would love another Kuvasz some day but won’t have one because of the fur. As I’m sure you know, there is white fur everywhere no matter what we do. We have thought of using a glue gun to spray down the fur but that sounds a bit inhumane, LOL!
We love these photo! Cute noses all around π Emma, you are so creative. Great thinking!
Thank you. I try to get a different spin on otherwise mundane topics π
Adorable noses!
Thank you.
Y’all are rockin’ the pretty black nose thing!!!
Bailie must keep hers polished as black as it is!
As long as da sniffer still works . . . π
Exactly! Sniffin’ is my life!
Awe! They have the cutest noses! Zoe got a bit of a snow nose when we lived at our inlaws! We are not sure why and she never got one before or since. She still has a tiny dot of it left and occasionally you’ll see it if I forgot to retouch her nose! Haha!
We would love to understand what the real reason for the pink coming, going, staying is, but it seems no one knows for sure.
What purrfect images for the word! (our mom has TONS of it in her closet – go figure!)
My mom prefers bright colors an then living with a Kuvasz, even if you own black it is white as soon as it enters the house!
Black noses count. The black nose turning color is an interesting thought. We have black noses and red noses. Jack is eight and his nose is still black.
I wish they knew what causes some noses to change, some to stay the same, some get pink then return to black. Very interesting!
Your cute noses can be shades of black. I have many shades of black furs – black-black, burgundy-black, gray-black and even a few white-black.
My formerly jet black spots on my furs now have some grey in them too.
What a wonderful solution to your dilemma!!
I als started with a very black nose which has now turned more pinkish than black…go figure!
Smileys!

At least pink is a bit more feminine for us girls and we care more about our looks as we age, so it isn’t too bad.
As a mostly black dog it’s one of our favorite colors! Love Dolly
Mom doesn’t like black in general, but she does love black dogs and cats and we have had some of them too.
I don’t know much about noses, Emma. But I do know that I am NOT a black and white dog. I am a white and sable dog – the AKC even says so!! I think that means I am an exotic Asian animal, prized for its fur. How cool is that?
Bruin the Exotic Asian Animal of the World
Yes, I was sable myself at a young age, but it all left me and now I’m more blond, black and white then sable.
You did an excellent and resourceful expose on the word black! Good job!
Thank you. Black was tough for us.
Haha! I was going to do nose close-ups, too, this week!! But then I saw Charlie lying on the couch of many colors, and decided to do a silly post instead π Wooof!
So far I haven’t seen any other noses. Silly is always good!
just love nose shots, those are beautiful
Thank you. I’m not sure what is my most important feature, but I would say either my nose or my ears
Nice, Emma and Bailie! Sophie and Jasper’s noses are both black, even though Sophie is quite the blond girl and Jasper is black, silver and brown in some strange combo. I wonder if their noses will turn lighter as they get older. We’ll have to wait and see.
Some do, some don’t and some change with the seasons. We don’t know why it happens.
