Lake City, look out, here we come! If you follow me, you know I’m testing out a 2015 Toyota Camry for a week. I do a lot of city driving, but to really give a good review, I need to take the vehicle out on the open road which means road trip! This past weekend,Bailie, my copilot/navigator and I loaded up, fastened our seat belts, and headed off in our sporty Toyota for our first destination, Lake City.
Now I love water, making Lake City on Lake Pepin a great destination on a hot day. Did you know Lake City is the birthplace of water skiing? Highway 61 runs right through town and there is a big sign on either end stating this fact. I even managed to find a plaque with the history of this fun designation! Oddly, we saw lots of boats and jet skis, but no one was water skiing.
It was a very hot and humid day, but it was also super windy. I was looking out over this marina full of sailboats. I doubt they wanted to go out on the water as it was real rough. We even saw white caps!
Bailie and I tried to pose next to this rock wall separating the marina from the beach, but it was hard to keep our eyes open with the wind blowing sand all over the place.
I love to swim in big bodies of water having spent my puppyhood on the North Sea. I couldn’t wait to attack some waves and cool off in the water. Bailie had never seen waves and was a bit afraid to get into the water. Mom only had our short leashes, so she couldn’t get any good shots of me actually in the water.
We found another pretty spot along the lake shore to stop and take some photos. It’s a job taking our seat belts on and off, so for some of our stops, we just leave them on as they double as walking harnesses too.
Little Bailie really liked the wind. Sniffin’ in the breeze is totally her thing.
I found a dock I could go sit on to cool off a bit. The water splashed me a few times which felt real good.
The ugly find of the day was this pitiful statue like thing at the Sportman’s Club. We were trying to find a way to get closer to the lake and ran across it. No idea what it means, but I needed to take a tacky photo of myself next to it.
Lake City on Lake Pepin was a lot of fun and we felt like we had been on a vacation after we left! Remember you can keep up with my #driveToyota week on social media under the hashtag #EmmasToyotaAdventures Stay tuned next week on Tuesday for the second part of our road trip, and next Thursday, I will be posting my review of the bold, and sporty 2015 Toyota Camry!
Looks like you a pawsome if not windy adventure
More than enough wind, but we love wind.
I love the wind in your furs. Looks like you had lots of fun!
–Wags (and purrs) from Life with Dogs and Cats
We got a real nice natural blow dry and fur comb out!
Great pictures. You guys really do have fun together.
We do have a lot of fun with each other, but we are sisters and we also have our fights sometimes.
It looks like you really had a fun road trip, and that was a good place to visit.
It seems odd no one was waterskiing there, but maybe it was too rough with all that wind?
We think it was simply too windy. Jet skis would have been fun!
Oh I love that beach. You look like you are really driving BOL
Woooof,
Lily & Edward
Hey, hey…I am driving, as it is my car for a week! Don’t you guys drive?
Hi Emma, we haven’t been writing to you for a little while. Mom has been super busy and we got a new kitchen! It was an awful two weeks for all of us, but now it is over and even I like the new kitchen. (except our water bowl is in the bathroom downstairs!! What is that about? we won’t slobber that much on the wood floor!) We hope we go for a road trip soon – we are crossing our paws it will be this weekend. Cross your paws for us! We loved all of your pictures. The wind in your furs made mom smile! your doodle friend Dash
Everyone is busy from time to time, no problem. I bet your new kitchen is real snazzy! We don’t have our water bowl on a wood floor either. One of us makes a huge mess with water, so it is in the laundry room. Hope you get out on the road soon!
That’s pretty cool Emma. I didn’t know water-skiing had a birth place. I definitely would not want to ski on that water with all the wind though. Too choppy and would be a rough ride!
If you need odd facts, let me know, I will sniff them out for you π I the water was too rough for skiing, but it was nice for taking a little swim.
I can’t be the only one who desperately hoped for photos of Emma and Bailie waterskiing? Nevertheless, those photos by the water are great and a whole lot safer.
Bailie would probably try water skiing as she surfs in swimming pools, but I prefer to swim and work on my fur tan.
Looks awesome! How cool a time you guys must have had!
It was fun and I enjoyed getting splashed with the big waves.
Too bad about the wind, but looks like loads of fun though!!
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Actually, Bailie and I love wind, it kind of makes us wild, but it does mess up a girl’s furs for photos!
That is a beautiful area to take a road trip to visit. I love your car and your destination. β₯
Wait until next week when I post part two. Even more cool stuff!
It looks like it was a great trip! We love trips to the water. You two look good in the red Camry!
Two girls in a racing red sporty car can’t be anything but cute and fun! We are having a blast!
Definitely looks super windy, but looks like you guys made the best of it! Your mom got some wonderful photos. π
Our furs are a mess, but we don’t mind because the wind felt great!
That was a great post Emma and I sure didn’t know water skiing was born there!
Facts of an odd nature are always around me for some reason!
Looks like you had a great time!
We had a great time on the weekend. Wait for next week when I have part two, even more crazy stuff!
I was scared looking at your pictures, it looked like the wind look so strong to blow you two in the lake! Isn’t it a beautiful place! I couldn’t imagine water skiing that day!
In Germany wind like that was a daily thing on the North Sea coast. I love it, it makes me wild, but I wouldn’t want to water ski in it.
Lake City looks like a really fun place! We aren’t much for swimming, but we love to walk next to the water!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Bailie and I love to get all wet, but Katie prefers to just dip her paws in.
Looks like a fun place to go!
Lots of water, but not in a pool!
You’d never think that water skiing started in Minnesota! But then again it is the land of 10,000 lakes. Great pictures it looks like such a pretty place. Even that stupid statue, did you put that cat there? Love Dolly
No, it was part of the ugly charm! So very weird! MN has more golf courses than FL does too. I guess we really use the summer months!
That looks like a beautiful place to visit and wonder around. Not sure Mom could keep us out of the water but it would be fun to visit:)
Believe me, I was in the water and all wet pretty quickly, but we had our waterproof seat cover in the car, and the wind dried us off pretty fast too.
This has to be one of our most FAVORITE posts!! Love the pic of you driving!! And all the beach pics…absolutely awesome!!
Wow, thank you. We had a real nice trip. Our part two next week will be lots of fun too, just not quite as wet.
Looks like a fun road trip. The brown dawgs would probably love that place and all of the water.
They would love the water!
y’all look beautiful with the wind blowing through your tresses.
We love good wind, it makes us more wild and crazy than normal!
what a great ride and adventure, beautiful photos.
We had a lot of fun in the Toyota Camry.
