Today is November 11th, Veteran’s Day in the USA. The 52Snapshots of Life Photo Challenge word of the week is “Veteran”. My family has no veterans, nor any military ties or involvement, so this was a tough challenge. Mom decided we should head to Fort Snelling National Cemetery for our photo. I did my best to look proud and patriotic.
Fort Snelling Cemetery was first established in 1870. The cemetery is 436.3 acres, and as of 2014 had 208,000 interments. There are so many white tombstones marking fallen military or veterans who have passed, and they always celebrate days like Veteran’s Day in a big way. Thank you to all the veterans who have helped make this country the great country it is today. I am waving a flag for you.
You can help give rescue dogs and military heroes a new leash on life with the purchase of Merrick Limited Edition Hero’s Banquet! Tasty food, stamped with my paw print of approval!

Emma that was great that you visited the heroes who gave their life for our freedom…. I will remember all this men today who came to bring freedom to my country…
Thanks Easy. Don’t tell anyone, but I had to sneak in…no dogs allowed there!
What a wonderful salute to our veterans. We have our starts and stripes flying in front of our house and some green lights too! XOXO Quattlebaum Funeral Home
Love flying flags. They are so pretty.
Very thoughtful of you and Mom. A great salute to all of our veterans.
This cemetery is always special in our area because it is so large and they decorate it for holidays like Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day.
Happy Veterans Day

Happy Veteran’s Day.
Very nice salute to our veterans, Emma! I am so glad that you are proud of our veterans! IF we had now won WWII GBGV’s might no longer have existed – do you realize that?? How awful!
Now that would have been a world ending tragedy! Glad things worked out for the best.
Those are most excellent photos.
Thank you.
Emma, you did very well…you look quite proud and patriotic! I’m starting to think we have a psychic connection with these posts sometimes…LOL! I think it’s fun that we have the same ideas, but a little bit different take on it.
I did actually think about taking one of the dogs to the cemetery with me, but I wasn’t sure if they were allowed. Sure enough, when I got there there was a big “NO DOGS” sign.
I was not allowed either, but we were quick, and I stayed on the grass right next to the road. Mom saw the sign when we got there, but if we had gotten in trouble we would have claimed we didn’t know and it wasn’t like I was out wandering, just sitting for the photo for a tribute to veterans.
Looks like a windy day at the Fort! Love your bandana as well! π
Thank you. It was a bit breezy, but it is so flat there, it doesn’t take much to ruffle the fur.
That picture is amazing Emma. I don’t have many veterans in my family either. I know my Grandpa did something in the Korean war though.
Thank you. We have relatives who were military, but no one we really know or have close to us.
You look very patriotic this Veterans Day! β₯
That is the name of the game I think.
What a thoughtful post and wonderful tribute to those that have served to protect us. Nicely done! π
Thank you. I tried to be cute but serious all in one.
Great post Emma! Are dogs allowed at the cemetery? We would love to visit. Mom just read a book called No Better Friend. WOW a dog who was a real heroine in World War 2. Mom loved the book and talked all about it with us! Thanks for your photos. You look patriotic! your doodle friend Dash
Actually…sshhhhh…when we drove in, the sign said only service dogs. It was not busy there, so we found an out of the way spot and I hopped out and posed right next to the road real quick. I figure they don’t want dogs using the place as a bathroom, or digging, etc, but since I didn’t go near the tombstones and wanted to take a photo to honor vets, we did it. Mom is a rule breaker, I know. I can’t seem to get her to quit doing that. She had a vision of this photo and was determined to get it.
Lovely post. Remembering both human and animal victims of war.

Always remembering the humans and animals π
Great post! We love all of our heroes, past, present and future.
Very true!
Fantastic post.
Thank you.
Hello Emma, wow you are looking so patriotic π It doesn’t matter that no dogs were meant to be there, I’m sure the veterans would appreciate your tribute and that’s the main thing! P.S tell your mum she takes great pictures x
Thank you. A good dog model helps too π We didn’t do any harm, and rules are made to be broken.
Nice tribute- thanks to all those who keep us safe
Thank you.
beautiful tribute!
Thank you.
Looking very patriotic there Emma! Just remember, if it wasn’t for the Americans, the French would be speaking German. Love Dolly
I would like that. Even though I am a French scent hound, we are not France fans. But still, I will celebrate the veterans.
What a beautiful tribute, Emma! Great job!
Thank you, my friends.
You look very patriotic!
I tried my best.
I think you nailed the proud and patriotic look! Happy Veterans Day!
Thank you. It is hard to do serious patriotic for me, but I tried pretty hard.
What a lovely Verteran’s Day post Emma!
Happy Veteran’s Day Smileys!

We β₯ our veterans!
We are very thankful for them.
Remembering all the veterans and their families.
That is what we are doing today.
Great photos. We’ll have to look or that Merrick’s flavor. We get Merricks every once in a while when I don’t have time to make Rita’s “soup” for her.
It is still out there and it is a good one.
Happy veterans day
Happy Veterans Day. You do look proud and patriotic.
I tried my best π
Remembering our heroes. Happy Veterans/Remembrance Day.
α¦ husky hugz α¦ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
I know you all enjoyed the day!
The rows and rows of white stones always makes me sad. So many have died protecting our freedoms.
It is sad, but it is also a beautiful site the way they are perfectly placed on the green lawn. At least it is kept up very nicely.
That’s a very fitting tribute! I love the flag work, especially. Our veterans would be proud, I think.
Jean from Welcome to the Menagerie
I wanted to be my cute self, but with a serious touch. It is a beautiful place. Thank you.
Beautiful tribute Emma. Wish I had of known about the Red Roof Inn discount, I could have made Doodle Dad take us somewhere LOL
Well, the link still works until the end of the month. You have another 2 weeks or so to go somewhere π
Very nice Veteran photo Emma.
Thank you. It is always a stunning place to see and fitting for Veteran’s Day.
Hi Emma! Love the idea of helping rescue dogs and military heroes, and the Red Roofs Inn deal sounds sweet! Thanks for offering!
Awesome! Hope you can take advantage of it.
