I have some trouble at my house, but thanks to Vimtag, the suspect has been caught on camera! (The above shot is a still shot from the Vimtag camera.) My little sister Bailie has been shredding my beds and causing Mom’s bed pillows to explode for quite some time now. Finally we have some actual footage of how she goes about her crimes.
In case you missed it, I put out a lot of information about the Vimtag camera in my post last week. Vimtag works as long as it has internet access, is easy to set up, and can be used remotely from any device that is also online. Remember to change your passwords when you are completing the set up to keep evil ones from hacking into your system.
I love my beds, and I have several around the house I can sleep in. Unfortunately, Bailie has taken to shredding my beds when Mom is not home. This was my very favorite bed for the past three years, but as you can see, it is so destroyed, we had to throw it out. Mom always buys two of every bed, so if you see one intact that was previously in pieces, it is the second, back up bed. I put my paw down on having my beds destroyed. I wanted Bailie caught on camera in the midst of her crimes.
In my post last week I got my camera all set up and started using it to capture some footage of various criminals in my own home. Today I’m setting up the Vimtag in the hopes of capturing Bailie ripping up my beds. We are almost out of beds, so this needs to come to an end.
In my part 2 video I want to show you all a few different features of the camera, as well as the naughty girl caught with her “teeth in my dog bed”. As with the part 1 video, we had to edit out a lot of footage to get it down to a reasonable length. Unfortunately, the ottoman does block a lot of the destructive mess, but Bailie’s behavior tells the story on its own.
- The Vimtag can be operated remotely. One helpful feature is panning. If you are away from home and want to catch an area you are not seeing on your screen, you can rotate the Vimtag left, right, up, and down.
- A two way microphone makes it possible for you to hear what is going on at home and you can also talk to those at home. We wanted to see what happens when Mom talked to Bailie in the midst of her crime spree.
- Lastly, Mom wanted to know when Bailie was so destructive. Was it right away, or after being home for a while and then getting bored?
***Tip: if you use the microphone feature, you may want to be in a private place. Mom was talking and yelling at Bailie using the microphone on her phone, but she was at the office and people were looking at her as if she was a crazy person.
What we learned is Bailie commits her crimes always within the first ten to sixty minutes after Mom leaves. Bailie does not eat the stuffing, but spits it out, this was good news. We also learned, as we already pretty much knew, Bailie doesn’t care about getting in trouble. She does listen when Mom talks, but it is not enough to cause her to stop her behavior. Bailie is simply having a really fun time whenever she gets busy shredding!
Now with Bailie and her crimes caught on camera, Mom knows how really naughty Bailie is. In the second half of the video, it appears Bailie is putting the bed away again, so she doesn’t get caught! We think this is a great tool for understanding behavior, and hopefully fixing it. How we can get Bailie to stop destroying beds and pillows is still in the planning. Would you use a Vimtag to monitor your pets when you are away? It would also be useful for keeping an eye on young kids, or the elderly.

The mom was watching Bailie’s video and I came rushing into the computer room to see her getting in trouble! Oh, wow! I sure hope the mom does not buy one of those cameras…I would get into trouble too. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
There is a lot of evidence Bailie can’t get around anymore! Good stuff to find out!
The mom left me HOME ALONE while she took the Boston terriers to the vet. I was very vocal as she left. Did I touch the box of Mrs. Prindable’s apples that had just arrived – I did not! Nor did I chew the sofa or any furniture! I was so very good. 🙂 Hooray for ME! Sparkle
You behave as well as I do! Bailie is the one that is on the wrong path somehow!
Like you said, at least she’s not eating the foam. I was really sorry to see that she seemed to even look into the camera as you said no… and she kept working on the bed 🙁 At our house this would mean crate time. Thankfully we haven’t had to worry about these things since early puppy days. I think if we set up that camera here the footage would be really boring.
Katie and I were out of our crates at ten months. Bailie is 2 1/2 and still in trouble. She is in the crate quite a bit, then she is out and goes a month or two being good but for some reason decides to start the shredding again. Bailie is just naughty. Mom catches her shredding beds when she is home and Bailie doesn’t stop until Mom actually pulls her off of it. Definitely our wild child!
Wow, that is great she was caught and I really love the fact that you can talk to them over the camera. I did think it was funny that Bailey made sure she was looking at the camera like Hey see what I am doing!? You can’t stop me, *Evil bark*
She has a very defiant naughty gene in her genetic makeup! She is a total lover, but when she feels like being naughty, nothing stops her! At least she did get off the couch.
It’s very wise to use a stunt double sweet Bailie so it only looks like you!
That will most likely be her next try at defending herself!
Haha! That naughty Bailie! I love how she pauses to look at the camera and then shrugs and just keeps shredding. Haha!
That pretty much sums up her attitude. Naughty girl!
oh my goodness! But where are you? That Bailie is having a party! And how thoughtful that she goes to put it away at the end. HA! your doodle friend Dash
I am sleeping in my window bed, Mom was 3 miles away at the office. Bad, bad Bailie! Mom tried videoing me one day, but I never moved in four hours.
That’s what I do all day! Mom thinks Lilly is like Bailie and never stops moving! She has stopped being naughty with shredding, but she can be naughty.
Bailie does a lot of racing around having fun, but it never seems to last more than a half hour or so, and then she sleeps until Mom returns like the rest of us “good” dogs do.
Oh Bailie! You were busted, red paw’d!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Finally the proof I needed to get her furry behind in trouble for wrecking my stuff!
I had to laugh at the idea of yelling into the phone to get the dog to stop.
Mom was in the moment and forgot all about the fact she was in the office yelling at a dog over her phone! Luckily, she explained her way out of it and was not committed for being crazy!
Call the NSA – that is illegal video undercover work we are sure – you were framed 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 There is no way a good girl like you would shred pillows 🙂 🙂
Bailie has a lot of explaining to do. Finally my side of the story to Mom is believable!
Haha Bailie’s face when she was caught was priceless! I love capturing the pups on video when they don’t think I’m around. The results are always priceless.
We love it too, but then how she thinks, and decides no one is really around and gets back to the naughtiness is a killer!
She is just having too much fun, isn’t she? I couldn’t help chuckling when she heard your Mom’s voice, listened for a few seconds, and then went right back to what she was doing. It’s almost like she’s smart enough to know that your Mom was not really there. Can’t wait to find out if you find a way to solve this. I think this camera would be lots of fun to have, although surprisingly, Luke doesn’t seem to get into too much these days (knock wood). I’d still love to see what they do during the day.
Watching Katie and me is totally boring as we just sleep the entire time Mom is gone. Bailie is the only one who does anything, but she does enough for us all. She is a truly naughty girl and she doesn’t care!
I had to back this video up and watch it again. Bailie is hilarious in her destruction. She knows that you are talking to her and stares right into the camera. I can’t believe that not only does she shred the bed, but she gets on the couch to do it! Bahaha! Naughty, naughty girl. ♥ I saw Bert make a cameo appearance, but where are Emma and Katie during this crime spree? I think that she is mad that you leave her.
We would think it was separation behavior, but she does the same thing when Mom is home sometimes. She is a hopeless huggler! Katie and I sleep when Mom leaves and we rarely move until she is back. Bailie is the only one who is off the wall!
I am asking you a huge favor. When the Nose-to-Nose awards come around, PLEASE, PLEASE include the links to these……….you deserve to win Best Dog Blog for this series alone! (not to mention everything else that you do that is great), I have to nominate you. This totally cracked me up. I saw Bert strolling by too….Bailie’s expression when you were speaking to her was priceless. I am serious when I say that I hope that they paid you handsomely. You should have your pets as their spokesdogs, they don’t need anyone else. xoxoxo DakotasDen
Thank you so much. We have some serious shredding issues and this product really helped us learn about what is going on. It was a ton of fun to write! We’ll see what happens this year when the nose to nose nominations come around. Good idea to make note of some of the best posts so I remember when I need to remember.
Sounds like rock solid evidence! Cool gizmo!
It’s pretty hard for Bailie to find a way out at this point.
Do you need a surveillance warrant even though it’s your house? I couldn’t stop laughing when she heard your voice, looked surprised and then went right back to what she was doing without a care. Ballie the Brat could be her new name. She is a very funny pup.
I had to stop buying BJ fluffy beds because I got tired of shoving the stuffing back in and sewing up the holes. He did the same thing with his stuffed animals. Now, at 16, he doesn’t do much except sleep even when I”m home. This might be good to use so I could yell at him when he starts to pee or poop off the wee-wee pad.
Bailie is the sweetest, most loving dog, but she has a serious naughty streak and no sense of remorse. Katie and I sleep the whole time Mom is gone, so these posts would have been pretty boring without Bailie. If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, so we are using her behavior for something useful.
I did this with Earl one day, and he literally slept the entire time we were gone!
Katie and I sleep the whole time too. In this case I can say luckily we have a naughty Bailie or these posts would have been duds!
Be Careful Emma…. you know what they say about PAWBACKS….
and that girrrrl could no doubt think up some DANDY PawBacks … Just sayin.
She has already destroyed most of my pawsonal belongings…what more could she really do?
MOL! Bailie, you were totally OUTED! And you looked so innocent when you heard the mom-voice talking at you!
She always figures her cuteness will save her furry behind!
I LOVE the video…and Bailie stopping to look when you call her out – classic. So funny.
Bailie and Vimtag are a matched set! Quite eye opening!
The mom would love one of those so she can see what we’re up to when she’s not home…but us, not so much. 😉
I don’t mind because I am not naughty, but Bailie, she is in some deep trouble now!
Hmmmmmm….I wonder how you can find a way to fix Bailie’s behavior?? Good luck…good, comfy bed is hard to find! Good luck!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
I’m pretty bummed she has destroyed my very favorite bed. For now, she is behind bars when Mom is away.
Hope that video captured the tree rat messing that bed
Lily & Edward
Bailie had the same hope, but it didn’t work out that way for her.
Haha, how awesome to see Bailie’s footage AND hearing you correct her remotely!! We do have an interior camera that’s hooked up to our alarm system, and while I can check in on the pups via the alarm system app, it doesn’t record until someone were to break in, and it certainly doesn’t have the remote speaking factor – I love that!!
It is pretty fun, and we like how you can move the view too. Sadly, Bailie didn’t care much about the voice, but her facial expressions are so funny. It is a real good way to find out the truth about what that naughty girl is up to.
This is absolutely priceless!! Love Bailie’s face…and she certainly looks surprised when you start telling her to stop! This is award-winning! I agree with Caren! I have cameras on the girls while we are away. They never move. They perch on the couch and stay there! Great video!
Katie and I are boring too. Two hours or eight, we are still in the same spot. Bailie has to get active and find trouble, then she eventually joins us in being boring…sadly after leaving a path of destruction. She is a funny one, I have to give her that, and provides lots of good stuff for the blog!
I think sometimes it is best not to know what is going on. Of course our dogs were crated until they were seniors (Freighter is still in a crate when we are not at home).
Mom never had issues with her dogs until Bailie. She is now back in jail when Mom is not home.
I could watch this ALL DAY! Oooh Bailie….destroying the bed AND on the couch….uh oh!
While your mom was yelling at her, my Bay-Li was wondering who was yelling at her and my other dogs were like “ooh, someone is mad at you!”
But in this house, Car-Li is the naughty girl, she’s pretty much figured out punishments aren’t so bad! “What are they going to do, put me in time-out so I can nap, duh!” Though at, age 10, her naughty side usually only comes out when she doesn’t want to do her treadmill walking.
The fact that Bailie puts the bed back makes me think she’s a VERY smart girl. What about occupying her with something positive like treat-dispensing toys? When we leave I sometimes leave a Planet Dog Orbee/Mazee, or PetSafe Busy Buddy toy for the girls to burn off energy with.
Car-Li, in particular, loves when I hide treats around for her to find after I leave, I can see this reinforcing their nose-work, though, with bigger dogs, might not be as challenging as long as you need it to be.
She had a Kong which she was stopping to lick on in the first half of the video, but then she went right back to the bed. I had to edit that out to keep the video from being too long. She also has antlers and hooves and sometimes Mom hides treats, but she still shreds. It is what she appears to enjoy at my expense!
Then your mom must say what my mom does pretty often: “This is why we can’t have nice things!”
I’m also curious, did anyone but Bailie respond to the camera when your mom talked to you? I would’ve thought you’d go running in the room, or, does no one want to be around naughty Bailie?
No one else responded to anything, only Bailie. Without Bailie we wouldn’t have had much video, that is for sure!
Oh Bailie!!! You naughty girl! Are you allowed on the Sofa or where you breaking all of the rules!? Did you know that your hooman was taping you! How tricky!
No dogs on the furniture. She never ever goes on there when Mom is home. She is simply being being a huge rule breaker and naughty girl! She has no regard for rules and not much for Mom’s voice when she isn’t there in person either.
I LOVE that girl. So two observations. 1) There is a big ole’ stuffed toy sitting in front of the coffee table but she still choses to shred the bed. That means she likes challenges. 🙂 2) She never touched the Christmas tree with all its cute little ornaments.
When I tell my dogs to stop doing something and they don’t, I stomp right over and stop them. How frustrating was it for mom to be watching this and telling Bailie to stop and have Bailie ignoring her?
She doesn’t destuff toys anymore either. She only goes for beds and pillows. We don’t know why. Mom was expecting her to go after the Christmas decorations but she sticks with the beds. She also has an “I don’t care” attitude. Even if Mom is there in person she won’t always stopped and has to be physically removed. One true teenager!
Loved the cat nonchalantly walking passed while Bailie is happily rolling about on his back. Emma, I must say your modelling skills are brilliant. Love the glasses
Thank you. I’m surprised Bert didn’t join Bailie as they are good pals! Bailie is one naughty girl!
So glad that mom finally got to see this! What a naughty girl you are Bailie! When mom comes on over the mic is probably the funniest part. I don’t eat the stuffing either, but now when I’m destuffing something Taffy watches and eats anything which is a bad combo. I can see where the camera would be a good tool if you are trying to determine if a behavior is happening. Now the hard part, stopping it! Mom thinks Bailie is bored and needs more exercise which is hard to believe because we know she gets a lot. Love Dolly PeeS: We got to see the other cat finally!
We don’t understand why she does it. She isn’t bored, she has a full Kong and other chew toys, but she loves to shred beds and evidently jump on the furniture. It only lasts a short time and happens not too long after Mom leaves, then she goes back to sleep. For now, she is back in jail when Mom isn’t home. Funny thing is, she is home with only the cats several times a week when Mom walks Katie and I, and she has never ever misbehaved. It all makes no sense.
Oh, Bailie, you little demon! You and Ducky would have a blast together!
When she’s not at daycare, and we’re not at home, Ducky is in her crate. She can’t be trusted alone with Shadow if there’s a toy or bone around; and since Shadow likes having access to her toys…well, Ducky has to stay in her crate. But, we’re not usually gone all that long so it’s not a big deal. And when we know we’re going to be gone for the day, we ask the pet sitter to check on them every few hours.
Bailie is back in jail again for the most part when we are home alone. She does well for a month or two and then starts up her nonsense again. Wild Child…need I say more!
Oh Bailie!!! That’s like Kronos with the decorative pillows, but thankfully he doesn’t shred them and he only plays with them when mom’s home (he does it for the attention). You silly girl! BOL
Bailie did chew a small hole in one couch cushion a while back too. So very naughty!
busted big time!
She is completely busted.
She is not that bad. That is a regular day at our house. My Mom doesn’t yell at us, because we are the boss and she would be fired on the spot. What that means is that we don’t talk to my Mom when she is mad we go with my Dad when he yells we go back to our Mom.She is then happy to see us.
Katie and I never misbehaved like Bailie does. It is challenging because Mom is not used to that kind of behavior. Bailie is naughty in a fun way. If she was a really bad mean dog it would be a totally different story. One day, maybe she will knock off the naughtiness, although we might miss it a bit.
