Cat bro Bert has his paws on the keyboard today to talk about his top sleep tips. Bert is purrfectly excited to be partnering with Morris the Cat to spread the word on S-L-E-E-P, something cats seem to do all the time! Bert is also giving away a “Happy Kitty Kit” to one lucky reader!
My mom was a huge Morris the Cat fan as a little girl. She had his t-shirts, and cat stuff for her own kitty, Fluffy, at the time.
Cat bro Bert’s Sleep Tips
1. Play hard, sleep hard
Let’s face it kitties, hunting is a tough job! Hopefully, if you are reading this, you don’t have to hunt down your own meals, and you just hunt for fun around the house. Every cat should be dining on 9Lives between naps. Once your prey has been caught, stop and drop right where you’re at and nap. Get those batteries recharged so you will be in tip top shape to get up and relocate to a better napping spot soon.
2. Always sleep on the job
Kitty sis Sophie is great at sleeping on the job. She brings a comfy bed along to her desk and takes plenty of naps during her stressful work day. Sleeping keeps the mind and body fresh! In those few moments where you are awake, you may be extremely productive.
3. Show the dog how you really feel
Got a new puppy or dog in the house? Don’t delay! There’s no time like the present to nap with the new fur sibling, but position yourself so they know how you feel, even when you are sleeping! You can see I’m happy to share my spot in front of the fireplace while using the puppy as a “seat” warmer. Dogs are pretty dumb and don’t mind a bit.
4. Never skimp on comfort
No matter where you are when the napping urge hits you, make sure you are plenty comfy! Find a soft warm spot, preferably with at least a partial sun puddle. Never be shy, get into your favorite position and let the snooze fest begin! Put those over worked paws up too if you can.
5. Reserve your spot in bed early
Sophie likes to make sure her favorite spot in bed is reserved for her. She gets up early in the morning, eats, and goes back to bed to keep her reserved bed spot for the night. It is no trouble at all for her to work on her cat napping on the bed for most of the day and evening. Humans hate to move a comfy looking cat, so her plan works well.
6. Use your security detail
Dogs are really a nuisance and they have such a dreadful dog smell too! I find when I’m napping, the smell doesn’t bother me much, so if you have a dog you can trust, why not nap next to them. You have a dog, make use of it for your security detail. You’d be amazed at how much better you sleep not having to worry about any danger approaching! They will also wake you if any critters appear outside the window.
7. Rest while reading
Have you noticed how exhausting the news is these days? Never attempt to read all the news without many, many naps. Always read in a comfy spot, and I suggest one nap per article to really keep yourself in top form for those moments you are awake.
Those are my sleep tips. I sure hope you find some of them useful! Now for the exciting news! I’m giving away one “Happy Kitty Kit” to one lucky reader! Mom grew up always having cats – until she met dad – he is allergic to them but Mom says she misses having a kitty sometime – we would just chase one up the nearest tree 🙂
Most of the time they are a pain in the fur, they steal my stuff, and create trouble in general, but they can be fun sometimes.
Cat napping make purrrrfect sense to me even though I am not quite sure what a cat is. XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
It’s an annoying furry creature that will steal your stuff a lot of the time, but they can be fun sometimes.
Bravo Bert, you’ve covered things quite nicely! Snooze on!!!
He will snooze on, as always!
No better expert on snoozing than our pets. That fireside shot is hilarious!
Kind of a real butt head shot!
I am still rolling on the floor laugh at the picture with Ballie’s head on Bert’s bottom!!!! You guys are two peas in the pod! 🙂
Bailie and Bert make great siblings! The two of them are really something together!
Great job on your report, Bro Bert! I like that you put sleep at the top of your to-do list. We know that it matters. Poor Bailie is oblivious to you sleeping on her head. ROFL ☺
Bailie and Bert snuggle up by the fire almost every night in the winter. They are almost always touching in some manner, but Bert was being a real butt head when Bailie was a puppy!
Bert you are a super smart cat…. to use the pup as a seatwarmer is brilliant… I need such a seat warmer pup too… oh no wait I am a pup…. any ideas?
Emma here. May I suggest you just flat out sit on top of a cat? They need to be squashed now and then.
I have wanted a kitty friend ever since my first kitty sister went over the bridge back when I was a pup….Unfortunately, Mama just kept bringing home brother doggies….sigh
Those sound like some interesting tips, Bert!
Smileys!
Dory
If I could find the appropriate box, I would be happy to mail my cat bro Bert to you, but that would be with a no return policy 😉
Bert, you are one clever cat, you’ve got it all figured out. You are a PRO-fessional sleeper! Samantha definitely had to read all of your tips, although she’s already pretty good at it herself!
I think you cats are all natural born sleepers. A better post might be how to stay awake if you are a cat!
Ha ha, we totally agree with that!!
Bert really knows about sleeping!
Those are great napping tips! My kitties are big fans of long naps, too! They would love to win the giveaway! 😀
Bert loves the scratcher which is good since his other one is wearing out, and he of course, loves the food. The toy was a hit until the head was missing within a few minutes of Bert having it. Good luck as it is good kitty stuff.
*whispers* as a Star Trek geek, our mom loves that tag line!
🙂 I like to please everyone if I can!
The perfect 1 through 7!
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
That is what Bert seems to think!
Kitties definitely do a lot of sleeping. Nestle is not fond of cold weather so her places are by the heating vent or under a blanket. I don’t know how she breathes at times.
My kitties don’t go under blankets, but they love to find cozy spots in the sun puddles.
those are great sleep tips
Cats know their sleep!
Wonderful sleep tips 🙂
Coming from a cat, they should be!
