What is a StarWalk™ dog activity monitor from iQ Pet? As you know if you are a regular blog reader or social media fan, I’m a big lover of fitness. We spend a lot of time running, walking, playing, and doing sports. The StarWalk dog activity monitor is a great way for me to keep track of how much activity I’m really getting, and I can even set goals!
The StarWalk attaches easily and securely to your dog’s collar and the free app you install on your smartphone allows you to set up the StarWalk including setting goals. StarWalk will help keep you and your dog motivated to stay fit.
Setting up your StarWalk is all about three simple steps. You simply download the app for your phone, attached the fully charged StarWalk to your dog’s collar, set your goals and get moving!
I got busy right away reading the little instruction book so I would know all about how dog activity monitor works. I do wish the instructions had a bit more detail but I figured it out pretty well after starting to use the StarWalk. We did have some issues with downloading the app to our phone. We had to use a previous app version as this one would not run on our phone even though it met the requirements.
The entire device is really simple. There is the USB charging cable (it takes about 2 hours for a full charge), the StarWalk itself, and the two pieces to attach it to a collar. I love how it lights up, and you can customize the color if you want to use it in the dark!
It fits nice and securely on my collar and I don’t even know it is there. It looks pretty smart and futuristic too! Bailie and I had some good chase and wrestle games going and it never once fell off or got loose. The StarWalk is also waterproof in case your dog likes to swim. The only issue we had which we expected was the battery drained really fast on the days where the temperature was around zero degrees. It should last four days, but out in the bitter cold, we got just over a day of use. We have the same problem with our phone and camera, so it is normal we think.
This is a screenshot of the main screen where you can upload a cute photo of yourself for the background and get some basic information.
The device page is where you can set up your device features. You connect to your StarWalk dog activity monitor here, you can add more if you have multiple devices, it shows your battery level, you can choose the color for your light when you are walking in the dark and turn it on and off.
The main screen also has some of your basic numbers such as calories, amount of activity time, how many miles and the temperature of where you are at the moment. You can check your daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly stats. You can also set daily goals for added motivation. The bars on your StarWalk will light for each 20% of your goal you reach. Once they are all lit, you have hit your goal for the day!
The activity screen shows all your activity in bar graphs and the time the activity occurred. What all does the StarWalk dog activity monitor keep track of?
- Total steps
- Calories burned
- Active time
- Activity type
- Distance traveled
- Temperature
Mom and I are having a lot of fun with the StarWalk dog activity monitor. We want to try it out on Bailie and on Katie soon to see how their activity levels are. If your human has a their own step counter it would be fun for you to compare steps on a walk or run! I highly recommend this fun gadget to help keep you and your dog fit!

A Fitbit for dogs…how cool is that? XOXO Sparkle the PBGV
Mom says the most interesting would be if she had a fitbit and we could compare our stats, but she doesn’t plan on getting herself a fitbit as she says she has no need for one.
these things always seem like a great idea – they are all fun and we love them for the first few weeks but then we get too busy or just bored with them and then they end up in a draw forgotten
I think for people who need motivation and goals it is an awesome device. We don’t need anymore motivation, so for us it will just be for fun here and there.
Another great tool to help us pups stay FIT. We love it.
It is fun to see the stats after different activities. We look forward to seeing it after my sisters wear it too.
I’ve wanted to try something like this for Barley, but then she stays in her crate when I’m gone and when I’m home, I know what she’s doing, so I haven’t been able to justify spending money on one. It would be fun to compare how many steps she gets compared to me, though!
I sleep a lot in my bed during the day, but it is still fun to see the difference in activity on a walk vs being let out into the yard to play vs nose work, tracking, or just walking around the house. It all adds up.
We reviewed that and thought it was great. You will have to let me know if you keep using it since I think you commented that you might not use it over the long run. We have found it very helpful.
Since we don’t really need any special motivation, it is more for fun for sure. It is interesting to use doing our sports vs walking, and it will be fun to see how it looks when Katie wears it and I’m sure Bailie will have double the steps I do since she is all over the map on walks. I don’t think we will use it all the time, but there will be occasions for it.
that is fabulous… it’s such a cool invention and it looks super stylish too!
I think it is kind of a Star Wars look.
Wow, that’s pretty high tech. Cool idea.
It is. Mom found it so funny when I was sleeping and it would start flashing because I had been inactive for half an hour. Lots of fun.
The pups look ready to board the Starship Enterprise with that bad boy! Welcome to the future.
Fitbit for dogs pretty much. I bet Penny would break it with all her steps! Bailie hasn’t tried it yet, but she will put lots of data on it for sure!
That is really cool and a great way to track your activity! Can’t wait unit the summer when it warms up, I wonder what your numbers will be then!!! 🙂
My numbers are probably higher in the winter months as we are out and running around more. In the summer it is just too warm.
Very cool I like that it is waterproof.
It is nice that it is waterproof and doesn’t mind snow, just the cold drained the battery. It is also really well hooked to the collar so it doesn’t fall off.
It just amazes us that they are coming out with so many cool gadgets for pups!!

It’s about time, isn’t it?
I wear an activity monitor and it has made a huge difference in my activity level. We had our longest streak (28 days) of meeting our goal broken Sunday by one lousy minute. Grrr! Mom was so busy watching the Puppy Bowl, Kitten Bowl and Super Bowl that she let my record slip. Now we are starting all over. Maybe we can walk together and compare stats. ♥ Your Basset, Bentley
That’s great it is helping you out! I am using mine more just for fun. Around here, my mom is the boot camp leader, I doubt she would let any records slide! I would be frustrated too. Good luck on your new start!
Dang, us critters are getting better tech than the humans!
I wonder if they have a sleep monitor for kitties?
Wow, Emma, you are really hi-tech – above our noses!!! Chablis & Elbe
I like to keep up with the latest trends!
Well isn’t that snazzy? Emma you’re such a trend setter!
I bet it would be fun for your boys too. It’s a good looking, fun gadget!
This is fascinating to me! I wonder if it’s smart enough to figure calories burned in small vs. large dogs, young vs. old, etc,? My senior girls would not enjoy this I don’t think! Though I’d be curious how their fitness is on their treadmill walks, as opposed to when the weather is nice and they’re outside walking.
As for your mom, if she has a smartphone, fitness apps made for the iPhone (not familiar with android), like My Fitness Pal, have step trackers that use the phone’s built-in motion sensors. I doubt they’re the quality of a Fitbit, but I think I get a decent estimate. Though, I suppose if you stick closer to your mom on walks she can just use your numbers!
I’d definitely like to see Bailie’s numbers while your mom is away, she seems to be the only one at home who has all day play!
When you set up your StarWalk, you have to put in the breed, height and weight so it can calculate correctly. Mom has no desire to measure her steps. She is super active and as long as her clothes fits, she is good she says. I am having fun with it to see what it comes up with for me. I’m sure your senior dogs wouldn’t mind it as you don’t even know you are wearing it.
I expect you guys will shatter some records! It looks cute on your collar too.
Being a fashionable hound, I had to have one that would match my collar 😉 It’s fun to watch the numbers.
Oh boy! Mom would love that!
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
It is fun. If your mom has a fitbit and you guys have this, it would be really fun!
This is so cool. I would especially love this for Luke, since it’s most difficult to track his activity since he’s all over the place sometimes. Cricket just consistently runs and fetches so I know she gets enough exercise when we’re playing in the yard; but Luke is always screwing around…sometimes chasing the ball, sometimes playing with Sheba and other times sniffing around.
I used to have a Jawbone Up fitness monitor for myself, but I broke it. I plan to try a different type sometime and you are so right it would be fun to compare!
It’s pretty interesting to see the different activities we do and how they rank as far as movement.
This sounds like a great motivator to get some of those paws going who may already be rethinking their 2016 fitness resolutions…
For us it is more about fun and curiosity, but it would be great for folks who need motivation to set goals and meet them!
Wow, that’s some pretty cool technology, Emma. ღ
It’s a lot of fun to see what I really am doing!
