Shedding is quite prevalent at my house with three dogs and two cats, so when I was offered a self cleaning deshedding tool from MIU PET, I accepted. Would this be the fur stopper we have been dreaming of?
It certainly looks nice, but looking nice doesn’t stop shedding! Mom attached the comb end to the handle and it was ready to get to work on our furs.
Before we got to deep into the fur, I got my paws on this deshedding tool. I’m not a big fan of brushing, and I felt the need to check it out personally before using. It is supposed to be self cleaning with the touch of a button. It comes in two sizes, we got the large, and is for use with dogs or cats, which is quite practical for us.
I was the first test subject. It really wasn’t doing much for my furs. The light bulb went on and Mom got my stripping tool, stripped my furs a bit, and then tried the deshedding tool. For my furs this was the only way it really worked. I do have a lot of loose hair after my coat gets stripped, and this tool would get rid of a lot of that hair. You can see in the bottom left photo, Mom pushes the button and my furs fall right out of the comb.
Next up I had Katie give it a test. She is a dog that has unlimited, fur. It is super thick, and she is always shedding! Mom tried to use it on Katie, starting from her head and moving on down as the directions state. It did get some fur off, but she really needs a rake type brush or a comb with much longer teeth to get into her furs. For Katie, not the right tool.
Here, kitty, kitty! Yes, cat bro Bert has short fur, but he does shed ALOT! Let’s give it a try on a cat, shall we? Jackpot! Bert loves getting combed or brushed and we got a ton of fur off of him! The guy should be bald with all the fur the MIU PET Deshedding Tool took out! The medium size brush would be ideal, but we can use the large on him too. The fur popped right out of the tool too! Later in the day, Mom did notice a lot less shedding when he was on her lap getting petted.
My take on the MIU PET Deshedding Tool – Perfect for the cat, not quite ideal for a thick coat like a Kuvasz has, or for wire hair breeds who normally get stripped. I would guess it would be great for a lab or other types of coats like that. The self cleaning feature was very helpful. MIU PET claims it will reduce shedding up to 95%. I do believe this claim with the cat, but it didn’t do much for me or Katie.

BOL!!! That is too funny….Bert should be BALD!! We are very glad to hear that the new tool worked well on Bert!
He may soon be headless. He had huge fights with Bailie and with Katie while trying to steal their food this morning and ended up with his head in their mouths. No one was injured, but he never seems to learn. At least there wasn’t a lot of excess fur in my sister’s mouths since he had been recently deshedded!
Cats are so brazen! Lucas is always sticking his head in Harley and Charlie’s bowls!
One day cat bro Bert may be missing his head if he keeps trying to steal from us dogs. We are getting a bit more mean with him and his behavior.
LOL, Harley is feeling the same way. He has less patience for the cat shenanigans as he gets older.
Oh dear…I know all about those deshedding tools! I am not a fan of brushing either. I was just hand stripped yesterday…an hour of my life gone forever (along with enough undercoat fur to make a new Cairn Terrier). BOL
Oz
When I go in for my stripping it is a 3-4 hour appt. Don’t like it either.
Eko and Penny don’t have the right coat for this, but cheers to one lucky pup and one lucky vacuum cleaner that will get a bit of a break.
You got that right. It does work purrfect on cat bro Bert too!
wow a whole ton of berts fur? you can knit him a sweater :o)
We probably could and make some accents with Katie’s furs.
I gotta RUN away from that brush!! I hate being brushed or combed..The mom says I am really bad about being brushed. See ya! XOXO Sparkle
I’m not a fan either, but it has to happen now and then.
We need it! Mom said she could make wigs from our hairs
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
Doggy wigs. That could be the latest trend for dogs…get on that idea and try to make the first million!
We have found a lot of these types of tools don’t really work well on long coated dogs – great review though π
It wasn’t a fit for us dogs, but for Bert it is ideal!
I know a few sisters who could benefit from that kind of tool!!!
You could benefit too, I bet. Bert sure does.
Used the fulminator of Jaxson’s tail and ears this morning. Can’t use it on Harley. Good news that this works on Bert –
It seems every pet needs a different grooming tool, but that’s okay. As long as something works.
A self cleaning feature on a brush is just the best! I use different brushes on each of our pets, all of their fur is different and some just work better than others. I use the same type on Sam and Sheba, since they both have longer fur, but I have a smaller one for Sam. We have quite a collection of brushes around here, that’s for sure, and it sounds like you need a pretty good variety as well!
I just replied to another comment saying we all have our own grooming tool that works best on our own furs. Bailie and I use the same stripping brush, but it’s the only shared tool.
It looks similar to the Furminator. Which I find very helpful for Honey.
Our problem is finding a place to do the grooming. If we do it on the boat, we have a big mess. If we do it outside, the fur blows everywhere–including onto other boats. Which means I don’t groom Honey as much as she needs it.
I’m thinking we need a big plastic bubble to work in. If you ever get to review one, let me know.
LOL! We take Katie to the hockey rink at the park to brush her. The fur blows around in there and we hope the birds come by to get some nice fluff for their nests.
We use a similar brush on Bentley but Pierre has to have a slicker brush or his hair will tear up. I am glad that Bert gave his approval. It makes life easier when they enjoy being brushed.
Every pet seems to have different fur and a different tool need. I could see this working well for Bentley.
My mom cheated and got me shaved last week!!! π
I bet it feels good getting that woolly coat off!
Whoa, Emma…we didn’t know that GBGVs shed and thought your coat was probably more like a Bichon’s. I think it’s kind of cool that Cat Bro likes to be brushed-who’d have thought?
GBGV’s don’t shed, we get our coats stripped, but after we get stripped the loose furs can be picked up with this tool. It works much better on the cat.
Oh gosh, that sounds like a load of work times two. π
There is always some grooming going on around here!
we can totally see how not every shedding tool is a perfect fit – there are just too many coat styles!
With all of us, there was bound to be one who fit the tool, and Bert wins. He is shedding much less now.
Pawsome review Emma! Sounds like the purrfect tool for my feline sisters. I might even check it out; but that’s not my hair on the sofa π

It definitely works on a short hair kitty, dogs, not exactly sure which furs would be best.

That looks like a great gadget for the furs.
Great review – we are always interested in different brushes and de-shedding tools. I just gave the boys a major combing session yesterday so would have loved to give it a try.
I am jealous that cat bro Bert lets you brush him. Our boys will have NONE of it (although they could certainly use it!)
Bert actually likes getting brushed which is good since he tends to shed a lot. This has helped cut down on the loose fur.
Bert you good boy you! Your so handsome.
I don’t know that good boy and Bert can be in the same sentence, but he can be good now and then.
