What do you get with 54 plastic Easter eggs? Lots of dog fun! ‘Tis the season to snap up packages of those plastic Easter eggs. Most stores are selling them at a dozen for well under a dollar at this point, and the fun you can have is worth so much more than that. We have 54 eggs – four dozen regular, and six larger eggs which we use for our odor eggs. Make sure you get the ones with holes them.
You know me, Emma’s the name, nose work is the game! I know there are all kinds of variations of hiding games, but we use these eggs for nose work searches. We use them now and then throughout the year, but it is more fun at Easter time.
Mom scattered them about over half of our yard and let them sit for about an hour. It was a very windy day with gusts of up to 40mph, but the little eggs stayed where they were left. Bailie enjoys a good hunt too.
The big eggs blend in with the smaller eggs and even Mom has to look twice to see if it is an odor egg or not. The big odor eggs all have three Q-Tips with odor inside. We also store the odor eggs in a separate bag so they don’t contaminate the other eggs.
Here I am with a good alert. This green egg has odor in it for sure! Look at all the eggs scattered about the yard. Lots of sniffin’ to be done!
Bailie seems to be making the connection between finding odor and getting “paid” which means a high value reward. The purple egg has odor. Look at her tongue! LOL! Silly girl!
Mom was pretty amazed that with the strong winds and the time sitting out there, both Bailie and I found the six eggs with odor in less than three minutes. Last year we did some Easter searches in the house. You can see the video here if you like.
Bailie has her NW1 trial coming up in just two weeks. Mom is a bit worried about how Bailie will do. She is awesome at nose work IF she applies herself, but who knows IF she will apply herself? See how goofy she is with her alert on this odor egg?
This was another one of her alerts. Her expression says, “obviously this is an odor egg, Mom!” She is so very different from me in her search style and her alerts. I am all business, she is all fun and games.
If your dog does nose work, get some plastic Easter eggs and give an egg hunt a try. Mom thought we would have real difficulty with so many eggs, a large area and the wind, but it was easy peasy for us!
We are excited to be attending a Spring Sniffing Eggstravaganza on the 26th, the day before Easter. The money earned will all go to charity. We will have a blast, and we’ll get a bit more practice in before our first trials of the year the following weekend. Check your nose work school to see if they have any fun Easter hunts going on.

What a pawsome idea!
It’s simple, easy fun!
That looks like so much fun!! What a festive way to do Nosework! π I’m extremely excited because a Nosework class is about to rotate into my work schedule so I will be assisting with it and I can’t wait to get started. I really need to get a kit for my dogs so they can do it, too!
It is really a great sport! If you are looking for the supplies, we get ours at http://www.thek9nose.com/ They have everything you need to get started with odor.
What a great way to work and have fun. I would be having total fun-fun-fun! XOXO Sparkle
Find those eggs with odor and get yummy, high value treats. Nothing better than getting paid for doing what we were born to do…search with our noses!
3 bum swings! 3 more! What a pawsome idea! I love to use my nose to find a good stink. Pawfect pics & video! Wondering where you found the eggs?

All the stores are selling them this time of year!
My huMom found some today! π Pawsome fun!
Yay! Have fun hunting!
What a fun game and great practice for your upcoming trials.
It is fun, and seasonally appropriate for a change!
That looks like so much fun! My mommy is thinking of trying something like that with me! Being a hound, I’ve got a good sniffer!
Your Dachshund pal,
Christmas
It’s a lot of fun, and pretty easy to sniff out the ones with the odor for us dogs.
I bet the neighborhood kids would love to hire Emma and Bailey for their upcoming egg hunts. They’d crush the competition!
Except I don’t think the kids look for eggs with birch, anise, and clove inside. We could be trained to find any odor, though.
What a fun way to practice your nose work!!

We are always looking for new creative searches. The eggs are fun.
Just love Bailie’s expression!
That is totally Bailie. She just can’t get serious about anything!
That was a darn good Easter Egg Hunt gang and y’all done good!
It was a lot of fun. We might set it up again this weekend.
I want to go Easter egg hunting with you, Sweetie! β₯ As a team, we could find all of the great smelling eggs and treats. You are an expert nose worker and I am an expert smeller! LOL! LOL!
I think you would be an excellent nose work dog if you had some training. It is such fun, but it does really wear a girl out mentally!
LOL! We are scheduled to do an egg hunt tomorrow morning at a community park.. I’m glad Chablis is not here because Mom can only take one dog and she might have picked him to hunt! My Aunt said that there are treasures and treats for us lucky dogs who find eggs! Your friend, Elbe
Sounds like fun. We are looking forward to our nose work hunt next Saturday!
That looks like fun. We are sending our mom out to find some eggs.
Millie & Walter
Eggs are for sale just about everywhere during Easter season. She should be able to find them even at the grocery store. Have fun!
Very fun and festive. Emma, my mom is wondering if your mom always gives you your treat close to the hidden scent? is that part of the training? always so interesting when you show how nose work works! your doodle friend Dash
You always reward at the source of the odor. In initial training we learn to find treats, then we pair the treats with odor to teach us to find odor, and that odor gives us treats. Once we search for odor, we still need to know that finding odor gives treats. If we get the treat far from the odor, it is not “linked”. Good observation. For hides that we can’t reach, Mom will hold the treat at the odor source and then slowly move it down to our mouths. Nose work is based on a dog’s instinct to hunt which is why the reward needs to be at the source of finding the hunted odor. Some people have very toy driven dogs who are then offered their toy at the source instead.
Hi Y’all!
That does look like fun nose work practice!
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
P.S. We’ve been comin’ by, but it’s usually on my Human’s phone. My paws are too clumsy to make comments on that tiny thingy.
It is a lot of fun. My mom doesn’t like to use her cell phone for much of anything. Way too difficult, so we understand.
How fun!!
It’s a fun way to search different containers.
Wow, you guys are rock stars, even with the wind! Kudos.
We’ve got the noses pretty well trained and we know what to sniff for.
π Yay…no problems with the last comment. Think we have resolved the issue for now. Technology continues to try to vex me. α¦
Whew! We are relieved as we don’t know what else to do besides what the happiness engineer sent over. Paws crossed it stays fixed.
Yes, double crossing of paws! Thanks again for taking the time and energy to check into it.
Thanks for letting me know you were having a problem. I don’t like problems, but if no one says anything, I many never notice.
You’re right…can’t fix if ya don’t know it’s broken! π
That is a fun Easter Egg game you two! We are boring and just sniff out hidden Easter eggs full of treats http://www.cascadiannomads.com/pet-adventure-blog/looking-easter-egg-hunts-for-dogs
We just sniff out the odor and then we get the treats handed to us π Lots of fun.
what great fun and fitness and so colorful!
You have to have colored eggs even though we don’t see color the same as humans.
Great job and good luck with the upcoming test.
I hope to get my next title, but we are really focusing on Bailie and hoping she can finally pick up some well deserved nose work titles.
Wow you ladies will have a busy Easter weekend! Egg hunts are definitely great practice I bet!
We have a lot of sniffing coming up and we love it!
