It’s finally time to plant the flowers here in Minnesota! There’s nothing like getting those paws down into the fresh soil each spring! Sadly, our favorite garden store is not pet friendly, so I had to send my mom to get my flowers. The only instructions I had were must be able to be in full sun, and must be lots of fun bright colors.
I think my mom picked out some real nice flowers for me to put in our planters. I got all my supplies out back so I could get to work.
One of the tough parts of the job is getting the flowers out of their plastic containers so I can put them on my big pots. I manage, but it is time consuming.
When I get them in my planter, I have to gently push them down with my paws so they stay where I put them.
Finally, I need my shovel to cover them with fresh dirt. Mom says dirt is like food for plants as it is full of the nutrients plants need to grow nicely.
To make my flowers really feel at home, I give them a nice big drink with my watering can. Flowers need plenty of water, but not too much or they won’t be happy either.
Finally my first planter is finished! They never look all that great the first few days. I think they are busy settling in, but with a bit of water and sunshine, they will look great in no time! Have you planted your flowers yet?
I also want to join in the blog hop to celebrate the life of our dear friend Whitley who recently crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She was one of the best dressed dogs we have ever known. Thank you to my friend Dory for hosting this blog hop.
Sometimes I do dress up, but hats are my thing, so I’m posting this photo in a fashionable hat for Whitley! Run free my friend.
You did a wonderful job at gardening! I think my mom just learn a could tips from you! π
I love to get my paws in the dirt now and then. The flowers definitely brighten things up.
Emma you have green paws!!! and not only when you run over fresh mowed lawn! Can you come please to rescue the Goneranias in my windows?
I never did flowers when I lived in Europe. Katie used to supervise when they lived in Bayern and had the hanging Geraniums off the balcony.
You could model for you favorite plant store that does not allow pets! Simply pawsome pictures. RIP Whitley, and the mom says for her to give her Panda hugs and kisses. XOXO Sparkle
They don’t know what they are missing not letting me go into their garden store! Whitley was a real special dog, but she really had a hard time at the end and we pray she is pain free now.
What a wonderful thought that you need plenty of sun to live!
Sunshine is good for everything, but moderation is the key.
Your planters came out very nice. I quit doing flowers since we are not home enough to water them. π
Watering them is a pain sometimes, but we are usually home and they brighten up the place, so we have our five pots.
Oh Emma, your flowers are beautiful and they kind of match your outfit. I just know Whitley would love that hat! Very fashionable.
Thank you. I have always wanted to see a photo of Whitley’s closet. It must be huge with all her cute dresses.
We watched the mom plant flowers this weekend. We wish we could have helped like you did, Emma.
I think my cat bro Bert would have liked to help too, but he has to stay indoors.
The flowers are gorgeous, a sure sign of spring.
I think we have turned the corner on cold and are headed in the right direction now towards summer. Flowers are always nice and cheery to look at.
Flowers in the pots and on your hat – love it! Yes I’ve been planting flowers for a few weeks now and veggies too. If it would ever stop raining here – pretty sure it’s time to build an ark – we’d have summer color by now! Such a sweet post, great photos π
Thank you. We are in for a week of rain now after having a real nice week. My mom isn’t a gardener, so we have our five planters I plant every year, and that is good. Hope you can get out and work on your planting soon.
Here comes the sun! Nice to see the bright rays and brighter colors back in the world.
They were super nice to have around, but today clouds and rain are moving in π Good for napping I guess.
Emma, you always look stylish, but your gardening apron and hat are particularly cute on you. What a great job you did at planting. Most woofies just want to dig up the flowers. Our mom could have used your help when she was planting. We are supporting Whitely today as well. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
I’ve never been much for digging stuff up. As a pup I did dig in the sand on the beach, but that was about it.
I only planted a few flowers and that was as a bug deterrent for my garden. Mostly, I planted veggies and fruit and I’m super excited watching everything grow!!!
My mom just doesn’t have any interest in gardening, so we stick to our flower pots for decoration. Fresh fruit and veggies would be nice to have, though.
Blooming Season sure is fun and you look all ready to go!
We are ready! And the bird season is in full swing too making my kitty siblings nuts.
You make us laugh all the time. You look like a furry kid
Lily & Edward
You have it correct. Mom says we are her fur kids, so it’s a good thing I look like one, LOL!
I love it when you work in the garden. Of course, all of the flowers pale in comparison to you. β₯ β₯ Your Basset, Bentley
Emma you are one beautifully dressed gardener…Whitley is smiling I’m sure
Hugs madi your bfff
Whitley was such a stylin’ sweet girl. We miss her and all the dresses she had.
You seem to be an excellent gardener. Most dogs only know how to dig flowers up! *ear licks* Noodle
No digging with this dog, except to move dirt for my flowers π
Love your gardening outfit. Granny usually wares her oldest & most
comfy clothes. I wear my beautiful curls. Slurpy kisses from Jolie Amie and Granny
I like to be fashionable no matter what I’m doing, so I have my gardening outfit and I wash my paws when I’m done.
Wow that is one stylish hat, and it suits you to perfection.
Isn’t it wonderful that so many friends have come together to remember dear Whitley today?
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Blogville is such an amazing community! We are all fortunate to be a part of it!
Yay! I love “flower time”! Our little roses have been blooming recently and it’s so fun to watch them! I love spring!
We killed all our roses. Mom isn’t a gardener and they need so much attention which they didn’t get, so they died. We have other flowering plants that are more hearty.
Your flowers look very nice, Emma, and yes, once they settle in they will be even more beautiful. We always wait until at least Memorial Day to plant flowers here in New England. One year I put them out too early, and they all got killed by frost! So of course, now I’m overly cautious about it.
We can get frost and snow into the beginning of June, but they say after May 10th, it is pretty safe, so we are planting. We don’t do a garden either, so moving a few planters for frost isn’t to tough.
Emma, you also look very fashionable in your garden outfit! Wilhelmina would probably eat your flowers…and your outfit! ;p Your hat looks very stylish. We know Whitley would love it π
the critters in the cottage xo
Whitley loved fashion and flowers, so I hope it was fitting for her. Wilhelmina scares me I think! I never had anyone eat my outfits!
Emma, your pictures and planting skills are PAWsome! My Dog Mom does NOT have a green thumb!
I do have a green paw now and then.
Excellent gardening lesson, E. I sure learned a lot. Mostly I learned that I need one of those tiny aprons to wear. Sweet!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
When it comes to shirts and stuff, I borrow from my mom, but for aprons, I have to buy kids ones because I am so short!
I am very good at digging holes in my mom’s planters! She has raised vegetable beds and Dad had to build a sturdy fence around them to keep me out Chablis thinks you look very nice in that hat, but he has a crush on you. Me, I’m now old enough for crushes, but too silly to do anything about them,
SIGNED, Elbe ( Chablis little brother)
I used to dig in the sand on the beach in Germany, but other than that I don’t dig. Bailie dug one hole in our yard under a bush to stay cool. No gardens here, just planters, so we are safe when it comes to plant troubles.
Crikey ….. my name’s Charlie and I just popped over from Whitley’s tribute blog hop to say g’day. We haven’t met before but I’d sure like to get to know you better and hope that we can be friends. You sure do look good in hats, aye?? Whitley would so love your tribute to her. You’re not bad at that gardening stuff either. Any time you need some help with the diggin’ let me know. I’m a great digger. I sure hope we can be friends.
It seems most dogs enjoy digging. I only dig small holes for my plants to sit in. Gardening is fun. Whitley is really missed as she was such a fashion girl with all her dresses!
I love your garden! The garden store by us is pet friendly… and has rabbits!
Mom took Bailie to the pet store the other day and there was a wabbit. Mom thought Bailie would rip the cage apart trying to get to it, but all ended well. We have a garden store close to us that is dog friendly, but Mom likes to get plants at this one better.
Emma, however would planting get done over there without you? We know Whitley was VERY honored by your fashionable hat – what a wonderful way to remember her!
I toyed with an entire outfit, but I’m really known for my hats as she was known for her dresses. So sad she is gone!
You are a great gardener and a snappy dresser.
Millie & Walter
I guess I’m a gardening fashionista! LOL!
your flowers are gorgeous! You always have the prettiest flowers! We are hoping to start our container garden this weekend, but thunderstorms are predicted the whole week!!! They have to check our balcony railing too before we can start. Love how you dressed up too! DakotasDen
They said rain and storms here all week too, but so far we only had a couple sprinkles. Now I have to water these flowers again myself I guess.
Thanks fur joinin’ in da Blog Hop in honor of my BFF, Whitley…ya looks adorabull in yer hat… and plantin’ yer pots, too!
Thank you. We adored Whitley and miss seeing her and her pretty dresses.
Luv your hat! Fanks for dressing up for Whitley!
In Blogville we stick together and Whitley was a great friend and fashionable dog.
OMD…What beautiful flowers and we just know Whitley would love that hat on you!!
Smileys for Whitley!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Thanks again for holding the hop. It was a lovely idea!
You do such a beautiful job, can you come help me?
Thank you, I love to help out.
O.M.D.! I am so jealous of your gardening skills!!!! okays, MA is jealous of your gardening skills!!! BOL!
You look FABulous in your gardening garb and your most FABulous hat!
Kisses,
Ruby β₯
Thank you. I enjoy having a green paw!
Great job on the garden planters and a super duper job with your tribute to Whitley. We did not know her but it sounded like everyone in Blogville genuinely adored her.
She was a real sweet girl and her mom has amazing talent when it comes to sewing. She must have had a closet full of dog dresses, all super cute.
Emma you are such a good helper! Taffy and I are banned from the yard when mom is doing her flowers, Taffy especially she gets into everything. Love Dolly
My sisters and I have always helped out. We don’t make any messes with the planting work.
We don’t get a lot of sun at the front of our house, which is where I want to plant flowers! So we haven’t planted any yet, but I do have a nice plant that is managing to stay alive out back! Love your photos Emma.
We have full sun up front, more shade in the back, but all my flowers are real happy.
