Happy Flag Day, from our only American dog, and the only dog in our family who can carry or hold a flag, Bailie! Have you ever wondered why we have Flag Day and why it is celebrated? I sure did, so I did some digging and found the answer.
On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution which stated: “Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.” Flag Day is the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777. On August 3rd, 1949, President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of every year as Flag Day!
Bailie encourages all Americans to proudly fly, carry, or run with a flag today! America is a wonderful country which can be celebrated with the American Flag! I do apologize if Bailie has broken any flag etiquette, but it is not easy for a dog to carry a flag. She does her best not to drop it and to hold it upright, but sometimes stuff happens.
Happy Flag Day!
We put our flag up, it is too heavy for either dog. Bailie you are doing a good job:)
Bailie could never carry a full sized flag as it would be way too big. We are happy with our smaller versions. For us a flag is a flag as long as the stars and stripes are correct.
I think Bailie is doing a great job and especially this week we should all take a minute and remember what it stands for…freedom for ALL,
This year Flag Day comes just at the right time. Honor our country and the freedom, don’t look back, look to the future and how to make changes for the good of our country.
Happy Flag Day!!! and you look so fabulous with that flag….a proud american dog YAY!
She is a proud to be an American dog. She feels special since Katie and I don’t have US passports.
This is a beautiful post… we are also PROUDLY FLYING OUR FLAG THIS DAY.
Awesome! Fly those flags proudly. The USA is a great country!
We don’t think we knew that stuff
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
Mom had heard about it, but it was a long time ago, so we looked it up. It never hurts to keep learning.
We have our flag flying today!
Good for you boys!
Terrific job Bailie! Happy Flag Day everyone!
She’s a very proud American dog!
Happy Flag Day!
Same to you kitties.
Happy Flag Day. Thanks for the information. I am sure that there are a number of people who celebrate the day but didn’t actually know what the day stood for.
Most folks just accept it as a day to fly a flag but don’t think about why. I thought it would be fun to post the reason.
Happy Flag Day Bailie!
Thank you!
Holding a flag is a tough nut to crack, B. I think you did it proud. Happy Flag Day!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Bailie is pretty good about carrying things around when asked. I would have nothing to do with it.
Happy Flag Day! Our is flying high and proudly today!
You Newfs need a big flag!
Bailie did a great job flying the flag! Thank you for sharing the history of this day, I didn’t know it, and always like to!
I think for most the meaning is unknown. We were wondering about it, and did some research.
She did a good jog on holding that flag – that was the only trick I have never been able to teach Reilly – he doesn’t like things in his mouth – happy flag day
Bailie is the only one that will carry things in her mouth. She is starting a trick class later this summer and we are hoping she learns to do more.
In Brooklyn we were very. happy because we got a day off from school.
My Gramma comes from Upstate NY, and they got a lot of days off from school for things like this that are not days off here. Our schools all end by the first week of June in MN too, so the kids are always off on Flag Day.
Thanks for the history lesson mom sure needed it! Love Dolly
My mom needed it too. It seems like most humans have no idea what the holiday is for.
Thanks so much for providing the history of Flag Day! Happy Flag Day and LOVE the photos! DakotasDen
You’re welcome. We thought it would be nice to know why the day is such a special day.
Happy flag day! No one waves and holds a flag like you Bailey!
Bailie is a good and proud flag waver!
Good job, Bailie! Wave that flag like the proud American pup you are! (Rita is Mexican. She prefers to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.) π
I bet she is a real party animal!
Happy Flag Day!
Thank you.
Nice job, Bailie! We flew ours proudly.
Yay for patriotic Americans!
I love displaying our flag. I know it is just a symbol, but it makes me so proud.
It is a symbol that is often forgotten these days which is why I wanted to post the reason behind Flag Day.
Happy flag day
