Dog got fleas? We need to have a serious talk about fleas! Any fleas you do see are a small percentage of all the fleas infesting your dog and your home! It’s not a pretty subject, but one I feel the need to cover!

The basics of BRAVECTO® (Fluralaner)
You may recall, last month I visited my veterinarian to get my dose of BRAVECTO® (Fluralaner). I posted about how BRAVECTO works to kill fleas and ticks for up to twelve weeks with just one tasty chew tablet. Have you been to your veterinarian to get your own prescription? You can find a veterinarian near you with the handy locator tool. Visit Merck® on Facebook and Twitter too!
Dog got fleas, what does that mean
Many dogs get fleas if they are not using a proper flea prevention product or not using one regularly. I’m happy to say I have no photos of fleas because thankfully we have never had fleas at my house. Fleas happen, but if you find fleas on your dog, your problem is much bigger than what your eyes can see! Sure, you can easily kill off the fleas you find, but what about all the ones you don’t see, and the fleas that have taken up residence in your home?
The truth about fleas
The number of fleas you see on your dog and the number buried in their fur can vary widely! For example, if you see 10 or so fleas, there are most likely 40 or more hiding that you don’t see! If you have 40 hidden fleas, there are roughly 80 pupae (cocoons), 280 larvae, and 400 flea eggs hiding in your carpet, bedding, couches, and even in the floor boards! Fleas can carry serious diseases, some can even be life-threatening. The flea life cycle is long, and monthly treatments may leave gaps in protection, allowing reinfestation in your home. Even if you find just a few fleas, you need good fast acting flea control in a hurry!
Fleas, BRAVECTO will kill them
If your dog has fleas, a dose of BRAVECTO will start killing fleas within 2 hours and will kill 100% of the fleas within 12 hours! The flea lifecycle can last for several months, making it important for your dog to continue consistently with flea prevention. Just 1 dose of BRAVECTO offers 12 week protection* against fleas and ticks on your dog!
Never miss a dose
BRAVECTO makes is so easy to never miss a dose. Because it lasts for 12 weeks, you only need to take 4 doses a year. BRAVECTO provides you with sticker reminders for your calendar, you can also subscribe to text and/or email reminders! Just one super tasty chew tablet will protect your dog from fleas and ticks for up to 12 weeks! BRAVECTO is FDA approved, which means you will only find it at your veterinary clinic.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: The most common adverse reactions recorded in clinical trials were vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, polydipsia, and flatulence. BRAVECTO has not been shown to be effective for 12 weeks’ duration in puppies less than 6 months of age. BRAVECTO is not effective against lone star ticks beyond 8 weeks after dosing.
*BRAVECTO kills fleas, prevents flea infestations, and kills ticks (black-legged tick, American dog tick, and brown dog tick) for 12 weeks. BRAVECTO also kills lone star ticks for 8 weeks.

I like this product, we only have treatments for one month… so this one is much better if we want to spend a flea-free summer, thanks for presenting a fab product!
It’s working great for me…two months in and not a tick in my furs. We love it and you can get it in Europe too.
We started using Bravecto when we arrived here in SC. Frontline isn’t very effective in this region. So far, so good. I love the 90 day pill plan, and the Boys are totally protected.
I’m almost two months in and no ticks or fleas for me! I love it, and Mom loves how easy it is, and she knows I get all the protection because I eat the entire tablet right down. No worries about not putting something topical on right, or losing a collar. So easy!
Great advice, Emma!! We use a different brand, but we know how important flea protection is and make sure Mama always remembers to protect us!

Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
This is our new brand, paws down. We are loving it, and it is so easy too!
We’ve moved to a flea/tick location – thank you for this. We are bringing Ramble to the vet on Friday and will be sure to ask about it.
Monty, Harlow and Ramble
Definitely ask about it. Our vets use it as well. It is so easy, and no mess. It’s working perfectly for me too.
we have seen this on tv and would love to try it but every time I try something different on the boys one of them has a bad reaction – so sadly we will stick with what is safe for both of them
I would check with the vet and ask about what they think. It’s a beef flavored tablet, so no chicken which is good for you guys.
Say no to fleas. We are thankful we never had any. We may have to try this preventive next time.
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
Fleas would be a real nightmare!
We try to stick to all natural treatments, but I never rule anything like this out. The convenience of this would put it at the top of my list to try if we feel like we need to. It’s good to know that no matter what, we don’t have to go back to those spot on products, which we hated!
We just don’t trust the natural stuff and with all the time we spend in tick and flea areas, we need really good protection. BRAVECTO is amazing!
Thank you, Emma, for advice about fleas. I hear they are nasty critters, but so far I have never had one on my beautiful body. I hope to start obedience classes this fall and I will talk to my doctor about this product. XOXO Sparkle
Oh no, obedience classes??? I had some as a tiny puppy, but that was plenty. I don’t want to be to obedient. We are an independent thinking breed you know.
I am really good, and I need more than CGC letters after my name. The mom is limited as to what she can do with me. She falls really easily which is NOT good! Sparkle
I only have CGC behind my name, because Nose Work Titles don’t count with the AKC. I’m trying to get a TD this fall, and may try for a rally title. Bailie, the little stinker will probably get lots of titles after her name.
We do not like or want fleas! They are nasty and multiply worse than wabbits! BOL!
Now if wabbits could multiply like fleas, life would be almost too much! Mom just found out we took out another wabbit in the yard. She is sad, but she knows we can’t help ourselves.
Oh yea, those little flea boogers are not fun!
I bet some of those poor feral kitties have fleas.
Just a quick mention, several years ago our cat got out. He was an indoor cat and since our dogs were all protected, and he wasn’t out long we didn’t give it a thought. Within a few months our house was infested with fleas. They multiply fast, jump and even attack people, so don’t forget to watch for fleas coming in on a cat.
We have indoor cats too. Hopefully they will never get out more than a few feet from the door. Fleas would be a terrible mess to get rid of.
Note do not use dog products on cats, most of them can be deadly. Check with your vet.
Heavens no! It states that on the packaging. They have special products for kitties who go out.
Is it something you need to use year round, or only in the warmer months?
It depends on your situation. It is for fleas and ticks, so if you use flea and tick products year round this would be year round. We often take a winter break, but if we are traveling, then we don’t.
I use bravecto on Glory as she has reactions to the topicals. It’s a great product.
Topicals are so messy, and you never really know if it all gets into the pet or not. Bravecto is simple and works so well.
Awk…we HATE all manner of crawly things!
Nasty stuff, those fleas! When the world was created they could have skipped the bugs and reptiles if you ask me.
I tried like 20 anti-fleas products and none are working 100%, and Archie is always sad because of his fleas. I will try with this product, hopefully it will work 100%. Thank you for sharing it with us.
We have never had fleas, but I know since I started taking it, not one tick has been seen in my furs. It is a simple product to use and works wonders. I hope it can work for you!
Great job on this post! I recently started using Bravecto myself after learning about all the benefits. It’s so convenient, so glad I switched.
Love & Biscuits,
Dogs Luv Us and We Luv Them
Thank you. I switched right away, and Bailie is switching now. We love it, so easy and no worries about applications or anything. Great product and it works excellent too!
