The amazing purple witch, Bailie, has volunteered to learn the trick this year. It is high time Bailie steps up and learns to ring the doorbell when she wants to come inside. I’ve been ringing it for years, but Bailie has never learned how. Last year I learned how to hold a spoon in my mouth which was a tough one!
At my house we use the PebbleSmart Doggie Doorbell. It is made for dogs and is pretty easy to train. It has a removable treat tray behind the hole in the center. By placing a treat in the try, the dog’s nose automatically pushes the yellow bell ringer trying to get the treat.
First Mom added a tasty treat to the tray while Bailie was watching. ***Note, remove costume prior to learning to reduce distractions.
Bailie is then told to “ring”. Her nose smells the treat and heads for the bell.
When the nose contacts the ringer and the bell sounds. It only takes a slight touch on the bottom half of the yellow circle to make the bell ring. Mom says “ring” come inside to us as we learn to ring the bell when we are ready to come back into the house. We’ve had this bell for three years, and it is still going strong! Despite those -20 winter days and 90+ summer it still rings, and we have only needed to change the battery twice!
I’m the official bell ringer at our house, which is why I demonstrate it first, and then Bailie will show off her newly learned skill. The bell is awesome and is actually louder than our doorbell on the front door!

She learns stuff pretty quickly!
Nope, never taught a trick like this. No doorbell. But, my golden, Gavan, isn’t outside by himself, EVER, so there would be no need for this. He goes out when he indicates he needs to or when we think he needs to go out. Due to not having a true fence (chicken wire fence is all we have), we stay outside with him. He either decides to go back up onto the porch or we have to leash him and bring him in.
Mom watches us pretty closely too, but we have a fenced yard. Sometimes she is busy and we just ring to let her know it is time to let us in.
Love the trick and the door bell. Super useful. I’m going to add this one to my toolbox of tricks. Thanks so much!
It’s great if you have the doggie doorbell.
Rolly knows no tricks. He is my dumb dumb friend.
Iβm entering to win the gift card for my sister, who is a cat lady! Iβm not sure her cats know any tricks, beyond driving her crazy.
Cats drive us dogs crazy too. Good luck to you!
Wow! I had never seen a doggie doorbell before, what a great idea. Nice job, Bailie.
We have had it for three years and just love it.
My dog does not know this trick, but I sure will try to teach him after reading this post! This is a great trick! We use the treat method for teaching our dog how to sit and give his paw.
It is similar to training the touch command.
I never knew they made this doggie doorbell. This is such a great idea. Coco doesn’t know this trick, but I think I want to buy the doorbell and teach her this! So cool!
It is one of our all time favorite dog products!
No, my dogs know very few tricks. We really should work on that. I find it hard to try to train 3 dogs at once and they are always together.
Unfortunately my dog doesnβt know any tricks. Iβve tried to teach her several times in the past but she just doesnβt get it.
That doggie doorbell is so cool! This would be a good one to teach our boys as they have the tendency to just wait silently at the back door when they want to come back in. I always feel bad when I walk past and see them sitting there patiently!
That is exactly what we always did. No scratching, no barking, just waiting. Now we ring when we are tired of waiting. Mom loves it, and if you have house guests, they are always amused when we ring to come in. A great conversation piece!
What an awesome trick! We have a dog door so our dog can come and go as he pleases.
My mom likes to personally let us in and out, so no dog door.
My dog does not know this trick, but we don’t have a door bell on the back door where they go out to the fenced yard.
Without the doorbell, there would be no need for the trick!
This is a great trick for those that have a doorbell.
Awesome trick for those that have a door bell
No doorbell, no need for the trick!
Usually I have to do the ringing here.
My dog does not know this trick but I plan to teach it to him.
My dog does not know the trick.
No, my dogs do not know this trick. I need to teach it to my older dog. That way I would know when they wanted back inside.
You need the doorbell, and then training is easy. We love ours.
We attempted to teach our dog this, but it didn’t work out.
That’s a bummer. Katie was afraid of it, but Bailie and I both do it just fine.
Aww. No my dog doesn’t nt do this but I never knew to teach him either.
That ringer is pretty darn cool.
We love it and use it all the time. Very practical.
We don’t need to learn how to ring a bell to get in because we are never outside alone.
Millie & Walter
My mom is always watching us on and off, but sometimes she gets a call or something and we want to come in, so we just ring.
I wish I had that door bell! So cool!
We highly recommend these doorbells.
No my dog doesn’t know this, and I doubt I would ever be able to teach it to him
Awesome trick 3 paws up for this!
No my dogs don’t know this trick it will be something for Moe and Ky to learn next!
I have 3 dogs and I had not seen this before love the door bell so cute i’m sure mine would do it too with some training
I know they would. It’s not too hard and a great product!
No our dogs can’t ring the doorbell.
No, my dog doesn’t but my cat does.
No my dogs can not do this
PAWSOME TRICK! YoYo is never outside by himself because our yard is not fenced in but we would try it if we had a fence.
Oh that is so neat! Our dogs do not do many tricks other than the sit on command. And..well if there is a rabbit or squirrel around…forget it. LOL. I would love to teach them the doorbell!
My dog does not know this trick.
No, my dog doesn’t know that trick. Would come in handy though. Thanks for sharing.

This is really neat! My dog Shelby doesn’t know this trick but if we had one of these doorbells I’m sure she would pick it up quickly!
It’s made for dogs, so it is super easy to train!
My dog doesn’t know this trick but it’s pretty awesome!
I have tried to teach my dog this trick to no avail. I will keep trying.
I will continue to try to get my dock to master this trick. Offering treats is the only way he would learn it.
None of my dogs can do this. They have a doggie door into the back yard so they come and go as they please.
That is adorable! Didn’t know they made such a thing! Ours just slam into the door when they want to come in :O
The doorbell is a bit more civilized for a lady dog like me π
That is a good trick. I am afraid if brown dawgs learned how to do that they would be constantly ringing to go in and out…lol.
I only ring non stop when I can see I am being ignored.
Would like to try it to train the dogs to ring to go outside to pee.
This is awesome, love the concept of door bell for our animal friends
This is awesome
That’s fantastic, but no, my little gal does not know this trick. π
My dog doesn’t know this trick.
I would like to use the bell to train them to ring when they want to go outside to pee.
