Last weekend was my turn for a chilly, winter walk with my mom. We walk a lot one on one with our mom, but sometimes it is fun to take a special walk to a more fun place than where we usually walk. It was my turn, so we headed out into the cold, armed with ourselves and a cellphone.
In the fashion world I think I would be considered a fall. If you look at how well I blend into the brown, dried grasses and trees, it is obvious why. I’m almost wearing camouflage furs!
When we got to the old barn, I look like a tiny flea on the doormat, but it is such a pretty spot, I wanted to include the photo no matter how small I look.
The air temperature wasn’t too bad, but there was a nasty wind. I refused to turn around to face the camera for this photo. You can see how my furs are slicked back from the wind!
Because the walking trails are all around lakes and ponds, there was lots of ice. Sadly we keep getting rain every two weeks or so which also melts snow and causes a lot of ice build up in inconvenient places. The heavy winds pushed much of the water off the paths, but it did collect and make conditions icy in places like this “tunnel to nowhere”.
It appears that lots of folks have been snowmobiling on this lake. I don’t think it is particularly safe, but it is not my problem if they fall in, I guess. Mom and I enjoyed our hour or so winter walk together. We had a tasty, warm breakfast when we got home, and then I settled in for my morning nap. Getting up and working out first thing in the morning does a dog and their human good!
You are beautiful, Emma! You and your mom had a wonderful bonding walk. I noticed you do not need your booties for protection on the ice? XOXO, Sparkle
I only need it when the snow is clumping snow, if it is below zero, or if I’m going to be on fresh road salt. Most of the time I don’t need to wear them, but there are phases like this week where I do.
You guys are way tougher than me. I don’t do cold anymore, and would be very reluctant for a walk. Looks like a nice area though.
We all love the cold, it gets us going. It seems to make Madison really wild too.
WHew WEE! COLD does NOT = FUN in this household – nor does ice – except for Elbe who is still too young to understand fear and arthritis. Your friend, Chablis.
We all love cold. Ice puts a damper on the fun, but we usually find a way around it and Mom has some things for her shoes to keep her from slipping.
Love the barn and tunnel. Mom’s niece is getting married in a big old barn in September
Lily & Edward
That sounds like a cool place to get married.
Thanks for sharing your winter walk, Emma. We really enjoy seeing your pics of frozen New York. It’s much warmer here in central TX so we are fascinated with so much ice. You all come to see us sometime and we’ll go for a nice walk here.
What a fun walk! We had rain and high winds the other day so no walk and this morning freezing rain so wondering when or if I’m getting a walk. At least I’m the only one with mom now as Taffy has a cough and is quarantined. Love Dolly
Mom and me walks are the very best. We had ice last week, so Mom strapped on her spikes for our walks. They were shorter than usual, but we always walk no matter what. Hope you get out.
I am cold just looking at your photos! It is beautiful. β₯
It is cold out there, but we love it and it energizes us. You would love it too if you had it like we do I bet.
oh that cold winds make it so uncomfy to walk outside… the mama looked like one of that eskimos today :o)
We dogs find the wind to be somewhat fun, but Mom doesn’t like wind at all!
What a lovely place to walk! I have to start doing that morning routine myself! I keep saying it but don’t do it!
You have to start and stick with it for a few weeks so it becomes a habit. It is wonderful walking in the morning.
What a great way to start a day! All that frigid air has to be great for waking you up. π I love the photo where you coordinate with the scenery, Emma; but can’t believe how small you look in front of that barn! That definitely looks like a very nice place for a walk (and we’re glad you and your Mom are smarter than those snowmobilers).
No need for us dogs to have coffee in the morning with Mom taking us out in the frigid air. We love it, and so does she.
We can tell you like that cold stuff and I am glad you enjoyed your cool out n’ about!
We love it out in the cold, but we also love coming in to warm up in sun puddles or in front of the fireplace!
That’s a gorgeous place to walk! We did that (sort of) this morning! We didn’t make it much further than our immediate neighborhood but it was definitely chilly! We have a foot of snow, 15 inches in some places! π
We are jealous, we haven’t gotten more than 8 – 10 inches at a time the last couple years. Enjoy!
WE just do NOT understand how you can LOVE being out in the COLD WIND… WE hate it. How do you keep from FREEZING???
We have warm furs, and we are always on the move. It takes a lot for us to get cold.
Our favorite time to walk is in the morning too!

We always start the day with a long walk or run, it gets our minds and bodies going.
Looks like you had a fun filled day! I love adrventures hehe. Very cute photos. Keep em’ coming! π
Take care,
Chloe
Thank you. I love adventures!
3 bum swings! 3 more!
Looks like you had a wooftastic morning hike. Pawfect photos; you look pawsome in each one Emma.
Nose nudges,
CEO Olivia
Thank you. I had a fun time with my mom.
I agree whole-heartedly. Starting the day with some outdoor exercise is the best. Beautiful photos!
Morning walks and getting out in the fresh air is good for the body and the mind.
Stay warm this weekend. Sounds like the pawfect recipe for snuggles on the couch.
Today is the coldest day, so we are spending more time inside, but the crazy girls are also out in the yard a lot running around.
what a beautiful walk
It was a lot of fun.
What a beautiful place to walk! We had enough rain and a couple above freezing days that for now all of our ice is gone, but I know that’s not going to last long! I’m glad you got to have a fun adventure despite the chilly wind.
We get out no matter what, but ice is not a good thing.
We have a lot of ice too. Not a fan. The walk looks nice except for the ice.
It really does. Morning walks are the best, especially when they’e followed by a tasty breakfast π Those are great pictures.
We are all early birds and love early morning workouts, so peaceful, energizing, and you have your workout in before the day really starts.
